DEADLINES: Weddings A Engagements, Thursday 5 p.m. Other Social Items, Monday 5 p.m. Wood-Scarborough are wed August 24 Andrea Lester Scarborough of Conyers, Georgia, daughter of Mrs. Thomas Benton Lester and the late Mr. Lester of Raeford, became the bride of Jimmy Allen Wood of Conyers, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gilmer Wood of Tazewell, Virginia, Saturday, August 24, at 2 p.m. at the Raeford United Methodist Church. The Rev. Mr. Frank I. Lloyd Jr. officiated at the double ring ceremony. The church was decorated with purple dossal and altar covers with ivory ribbon bows marking pews for the wedding party. An arrange ment of lavender mums, lavender and white daisies, pink tea roses, astrameria lilies and gypsophila centered the altar. It was flanked by a background of palms and ferns, and a pair of spiral candelabra with white burning tapers. Mrs. Archie Howard, organist, played selections from Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Handel, and Mendelssohn. Mrs. Leland Strother, soloist, sang "Evergreen" by Williams and "The Wedding Prayer" by Wat son. The bride was given in marriage by her son, Thomas Dewitt Scar borough, of Conyers, Georgia. Her formal wedding gown was of ivory chiffon over taffeta. The fit ted bodice, with natural waist, was made of hand pearled schiffli lace, featuring a high neckline in wed ding band collar and bishop sleeves with wide schiffli lace cuffs. The full skirt formed a chapel train edged in schiffli lace. A shoulder length veil of illusion was topped with a head piece covered with pearls. She carried a nosegay of lavender daisies, lavender button mums, astrameria lilies, pink roses and gypsophila, centered with a lavender orchid, tied with ivory satin streamers with love knots. Cheryl Wood of Conyers, Georgia, was matron of honor. She wore a dress of violet taffeta with high neckline, fitted bodice with natural waist, crystal pleated bishop sleeves with wide cuffs, and a full skirt. She carried a nosegay or white and lavender daisies and lavender carnations, tied with lavender satin streamers and love knots. Miss Heather Britt of Raeford was Junior Bridesmaid. Her dress was of the same color and similar design to that of the matron of honor. She carried a nosegay like that of the attendant and wore a halo of lavender daisies and gyp sophila. The mother of the bride wore a gown of pink crepe trimmed with Irish lace, and a corsage of pink tea roses with matching ribbon. The groom was attended by his brother, Douglas Wood of Roswell, Georgia, as best man. Ushers were Richard Haddox of Marietta, Georgia, and Robert Gilmer Wood Jr., brother of the groom, of Hickory. They wore tuxedos of light grey, with lavender shirts, grey bow ties and cumberbunds. Boutonnieres were purple carnations. Guests were greeted by the bridal party in the vestibule of the church following the ceremony. The wedding was directed by Mrs. Paul Burnett of Raeford. Mrs. Douglas Wood <of Roswell, Georgia, sister-in-law of the groom, and Mrs. William Lamont Jr. of Raeford attended the guest register. They wore corsages of white daisies. Kevin Lippard of Raeford, cousin of the bride, was acolyte. Mrs. Wood was attired in a dress of white crepe, trimmed in pink with pink accessories for her going away trip. The orchid was lifted from the nosegay for her corsage. After a honeymoon trip to Myr tle Beach, South Carolina the cou ple will make their home in Con yers, Georgia. . The honoree was presented a corsage of pink tea roses before the rehearsal. A three course meal was served to the 32 guests, seated at tables covered with white cloths and centered with an arrangement of lavender pink roses and daisies. The Rev. Mr. Frank I. Lloyd Jr. returned thanks. The bride-elect and groom-elect presented their attendants with gifts. WEDDING BREAKFAST Mrs. Paul Burnett, Mrs. William Lamont Jr., Mrs. J.W. McPhaul and Mrs. Leonard Frahm were hostesses at a wedding breakfast, Saturday morning, 10:30, at the Edinborough Restaurant. Sixteen guests were seated at tables covered with white cloths and centered with an arrangement of pink roses. The bride-elect was presented a corsage of pink tea roses. P RE-NUPTIAL FESTIVITIES Saturday evening, August 10, the bride and groom-elect were honored at a dinner party at the home of Mrs. Brenda Branch. Co hosts were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Britt, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Booker, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Lip pard and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Liv ingston. The dining table, covered with a white lace cloth over blue, was centered with an arrangement of mixed summer flowers and blue candles. The four small tables, also covered in white, were centered with mixed flowers and a candle. Place cards were used to seat twenty-two guests. Cheryl Wood and Susan Wood entertained with a miscellaneous bridal shower on Saturday, August 17, at the home of Cheryl Wood in Conyers, Georgia. The dining room table was decorated with an arrangement of lavender daisies and baby's breath with lavender candles in silver holders. An assortment of vegetables and dip, stuffed cherry tomatoes with tuna salad, cheese and crackers, cucumber and tuna sandwiches, and strawberries and grapes, were served to the guests. ? ? ? ? ? Rockfish News By Polly Barnard Tel. 875-2736 Attendance for morning wor ship service Sunday at Pittman Grove Baptist Church was good. Attendance for evening service was excellent. Allen Gibson of Richmond came for a visit with his sister Mrs. Alice Allen and other relatives here, and became ill and was hospitalized for several days. He was released over the weekend and returned to Rich mond Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Steve Durham and Brandon of Hillsboro spent Friday night with Mrs. Marie Fowler. Mrs. Alma Parker of Selma spent last week with her sister Mrs. Arthur Watson of White Lake. While there they came for a visit with Mrs. Louise Watson and other relatives Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Gibson and daughter Joan of Shelby visited Mrs. Henrietta Tanna and other relatives Saturday. Mrs. Tracy Garner and daughter, Mrs. Sue Brown and grandchildren, Tonya and Han nah, and Mrs. Virginia Thornton of Fayetteville visited Mrs. Marie Fowler and other relatives in the area Saturday. Matthew and Joshua Rooks celebrated their birthdays last week. Matthew celebrated his sixth birthday with a party Thursday afternoon which included 18 friends and family members. Joshua celebrated his first birth day Sunday night with birthday cake and ice cream enjoyed by family members and friends. Mrs. Mary Sandy, who had surgery on her foot recently, is recuperating at home. Her friends wish her a speedy recovery. I am sorry to report that Mrs. Catherine Wood has been on the sick list lately. Burney Johnson, who was hospitalized last week, is recuperating at home. Mr. and Mrs. Dwight English and children, Symantha, Heather and Kelly of Connerlley Springs, visited Mrs. Grace English over the weekend. The Rockfish Extension Homemakers Club met for their annual "lunch out" at Edin borough Family Restaurant Tuesday. Mrs. Howell honored Mrs. Mary Lee Chalarie and her daughter, Kelly, were hostesses for a drop in on Wednesday which honored Mrs. Charlotta Howell. Mrs. Howell will be moving at the end of this month to Clarksville, Va. where her husband will be in a new position with Burlington In dustries. ? Guests were greeted by the hostesses and invited to have refreshments. The honoree was given a gift by the hostesses. Births Mr. and Mrs. George Albert McKeithan announce the birth of a daughter, Sheree Naomi, on August 10 in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Lee Car thens announce the birth of a son, Brian Jeremy, on August 12 in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Donnell Malloy announce the birth of a daughter, Danisha Latrice, on August 17 in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
