Roberta Peters is headlining Fayetteville program Sept. 18 Roberta Peters, one of the pre eminent artists of this century, headlines the North Carolina Sym F'vUle S 6 season in Fayet Ms. Peters, who debuted at the Metropolitan Opera unheralded and unknown at age 19, will ap pear with the Symphony in Reeves Auditorium Methodist College Fayetteville on Wednesday' September 18. Under the baton of Music Direc t0n Gcrhardt Zimmermann, she will perform Mozart's "Vio avete un cor fidele," Conizetti's "Quel guardo il cavaliere... So anch'io la virtu magica" from Don Pasquale, Verdi's "Caro Nome" from Rlgoletto, David's "Charmant Oiseau" from Le Perle du Bresil, and Lehar's "Viljai" from The Merry Widow. Also performed will be Brahms' "Variations on a Theme from Haydn." During the 1984-85 season, Ms. Peters celebrated her 35th con secutive season with the Met - a record unequalled by any other coloratura in the company's history. She twice visited the Soviet Union and became the first American born artist to receive the Bolshoi Medal. For a clear change of pace, Fayetteville's second concert, presented on Wednesday, February 5, also at Reeves Auditorium, focuses on "Music on the Light Side." Conceived and conducted by Associate Conductor James Ogle, this concert features a medley of unusual instruments, such as vacuum cleaners, floor polishers, and rifles. Selections include Rossini's Overture to The Barber of Seville, Jacob's The Barber of Seville Goes to the Devil, Schickele's The Unbegun Symphony, P.D.Q. Bach's Royal Firewater Music, Sousa's The Washington Post March, Schreiner's The Worried Drummer, and others. A humourous look at classical music is the theme. Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for senior citizens and students. For tickets: send check or money order to N.C. Symphony, 2804 Mirror Lake Dr., Fayetteville, N.C. 28303.
