Sports Recreation Bits Flag football, Midget league Hoke County Parks and Recreation Commission will be sponsoring a Men's Flat Football League, a Youth Flag League and a Midget Tackle League. Men'i flag football league The Men's Flag League will be open to current ninth graders and up. The organizational meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 1 1, at 7:30 p.m. at the Recreation office. All interested teams must have a representative present. Youth flag football league The Youth Flag League is open to all boys and girls ages 7-9 years. You must turn 7 before October 1, 198S, or must turn 10 on or after April 1, 1985 to be eligible to participate. Sign Ups: Will take place at Armory Park on September 3, 4, S, 6 from 4:30 until 6 p.m. Tuesday thru Friday and September 9, 10, 11, 12from4:30until6p.m. Monday thru Thurs day. Birth certificates are required for those who did not play T-Ball or Bambino Baseball this summer. Midget football league The Midget Football League is open to all youth ages 10-14 years. You must turn 10 before October I, or you must turn 14 on or after April 1, 1983. Also, you must weigh at least 65 pounds and not more than 130 pounds. Physicals are required for each participant before be ing allowed to practice or play. A $6.00 insurance fee is charged for each participant in Midget Football and should be paid at the time of registration. Sign Up: Will take place at Armory Park on September 3, 4, 5, 6 from 4:30 until 6 p.m. Tuesday thru Friday and September 9, 10, II and 12 from 4:30 until 6 p.m. Monday thru Thursday. Birth certificates are required for those who did not play T-Ball or Bambino Baseball this summer. NOTE TO PARENTS: Youth Football Physicals: All parents are responsible for obtain ing a physical for his or her child from the doctor of their choice and presenting it to the Recreation Department. Tae Kwon Do karate Tae Kwon Do Karate classes are being taught on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-7:30 p.m. on Main Street above Howell's Drug Store. Cost for the lessons are $20 per month. In structors are Macky McDonald and Anthony Freeman. For more information, please call the Recreation Office at 875-4035. Bingo There will be an afternoon of fun and refreshments for all area senior citizens on Wednes day, August 28 at 2 p.m. in the T.B. Lester Building. Bring a friend. Cbeerieadiug In conjunction with the midget football league, there will be a midget football cheerleading program . All interested youth must turn 9 before October 1 , 1 985 or must turn 1 3 on or after April 1, 1985. Registration will take place September 3-6 and 9-12 from 4:30-6 p.m. at Ar mory Park. Men's volleyball The Recreation Department will offer a men's volleyball league for all interested males ages 18 and up or high school graduates. An organizational meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 17 at 7 p.m. in the Recreation Office. Rules and regulations will be discussed, so team representatives should be present. September 27 (at 12:00 noon) will be the LAST DAY TO ENTER A TEAM. The Bucks were reported to be sharp in executions and looked good for this early in the season. The regular season begins September 6 at Cape Fear. The Bucks are coming off of one of the best seasons in recent memory. Under Coach Tom Jones, the team had a 7-3 record last year. Turkey Festival tennis tourney set The first Annual Turkey Festival Tennis Tournament will be held in Raeford during the North Carolina Turkey Festival. Play will begin on Monday, September 16 and will continue each evening with the finals scheduled for Thursday and Fri day, Sept. 19-20. The site for this tournament will be Deer Track Racquet Club's four Hartru Composition Courts and McLauchlin Park's four asphalt courts. The tournament is sponsored by the N.C. Turkey Festival Commit tee. T-shirts will be given to all par ticipants and trophies will be presented to all winners and finalists. In addition to trophies, the win ners in each event will receive a turkey. Balls will be provided. Events offered are Men's & women's open, B and 35 Singles, Junior Singles, Open Doubles, B Doubles and 35 Doubles, and Mix ed Open, B, 35, and Junior Doubles. Entry fees are $5, Juniors; S8, Singles; and a $7 each, Doubles. Play is limited to two events. Please indicate the earliest time available for starting daily.
