Raeford man bound over for murder A 55-year-old Raeford man has been ordered to appear before a superior court judge to stand trial for second degree murder. According to Hoke County District Court records, Judge War ren Pate ruled that James Wilbert Thomas, of 507 Saunders Street, be tried in Superior Court. Thomas is accused of shooting John Ed McRae on June 13, records say. Thomas was arrested after Raeford Police officers discovered McRae's body lying in some hedges near the Raeford Fire Department, said Police Chief Leonard Wiggins. The man had been shot twice, said Wiggins. McRae was 40, records show. "Apparently, it was a domestic type squabble" that led to the shooting, said Wiggins. McRae lived at 1913 Tylertown Loop, said Wiggins. In other court action, Lorene Lowry, a Raeford resident, was given an additional 18 months in jail after being convicted of steal ing a payroll check, records say. A warrant for arrest shows that Lowry stole the check from Julia M. Webb on April 12. The check was for S121.55, records say. Lowry was already serving time when tried, records say. Raymond Jones, a 39-year-old Raeford resident, was sentenced to six months in jail after being con victed of stabbing a man while he slept, records say. According to a warrant, Jones stabbed Mallie C. Graham with a butcher knife. Jones was arrested on August 9, records say. Johnny Thomas, a 21 -year-old Raeford man, was sentenced to a year in jail suspended for two year supervised probation after being convicted of walking out of Virgil's Drive-In with $120, records say. The man was arrested on a war rant issued on June 25. Thomas was fined $200 and ordered to pay $120 in restitution, records say. Tracy Lee Williamson, a resi dent of Sandhills Youth Center, was sentenced to an additional three months after being convicted of escaping from the facility on July 17, records say. The 18-year-old Williamson was serving a sentence at the facility after being convicted in Rowan County of larceny on May 20, records say. Jerry Bratcher, a 35-year-old Raeford resident, was placed on supervised probation for two years after being convicted of bouncing six checks to different Hoke Coun ty stores, records say. The man wrote bad checks to Revco, Jiffy Stop, David's Food, Convenience Food Mart and Clim's Grocery. Bratcher was also ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $305.23, records say. Willie Howard Graham was sentenced to 60 days in jail suspended for one year on un supervised probation after being convicted of driving while im paired on August 16, records say. The 26-year-old man was fined $100, records say. A 23-year-old Raeford man, Calvin Graham was sentenced to two years suspended for three years supervised probation, fined $300 and ordered to pay $400 in restitution after being convicted of trying to break into J's Barbeque, records say. A warrant for Graham's arrest was issued on April S. Jose Q. Portillo, a Red Springs resident, was given three years on probation and fined $200 after be ing convicted of using a car belonging to Cathy McNeill without permission, say records. Bobby J. Beeler, of Shannon, was fined $S0 for possession of marijuana on July 26. Beeler is 22, records say. Thurman will be bringing two camera crews for filming to be used on the cable television Nickelodeon Network show " Turkey Television . " Thurman is interested in every event of the festvial, but has a particular fascination with the Turkey Olym pics. Men nabbed for beer thefts A Raeford man and a Fayet teville man were charged twice last week, at two different stores, for allegedly stealing beer. Raeford Police Chief Leonard Wiggins said Richard B. Gill, of Raeford and Jeffry M. Landry of Fayetteville were arrested first on September 7 for allegedly walking out of Food Lion with a six-pack of beer. Gill, 25, and Landry, 19, were arrested again on September 9 at Convenient Food Mart for alleged ly trying to steal two six-packs of beer, said Wiggins. In a separate incident, Randy Lewis, 25, of Lumber Bridge, was arrested Monday and charged with stealing money from Andy Ander son's Home Sales, in Raeford, said Wiggins. According to the chief, the man allegedly took $590 out of a money bag in the office of the business. The money was part of a deposit and was in the pocketbook of the manager of the dealership, said Wiggins. Pope's Variety Store was broken into last Saturday, Wiggins said. , ..Sergeant . Michel Dijil was checking doors in the rear of Main Street businesses and found the door of the dime store standing open, Wiggins said. Taken from the store was reportedly $274 in clothing and jewelry, said Wiggins. A break-in at the offices of the Raeford Salvage Yard is still under investigation, said Wiggins. Last Tuesday night, someone apparently went into the office and stole an unsigned check for SI ,414, said the chief. A 16-year-old Raeford youth has been charged with trespassing after breaking into an apartment in the Page Bank and Trust Building. According to Wiggins, Thomas Griffin was charged on September 7. Joseph Mack Teal, a 28-year-old Raeford man was charged on September 8 with stealing a bottle of wine from Convenient Food Mart on last Sunday, said Wiggins. In Hoke County incidents, a break-in was reported on September 6 at the William McBryde residence. Taken from the home was a vac cuum cleaner, a color television set, an electric saw and a gas grill, reports from the Hoke County Sheriff's Department say.
