Freshmen smash Townsend 52-0 Hoke High School's Freshman Football Team had a good evening last Thursday. The players walked over the Townsend Team from Maxton 52-0. At the end of the first quarter, the score was 36-0. Coaches for the Hoke team used second and third string players for about 70% of the game. It was a long trip back to Max ton for the losers. The team now stands 2-0. Outstanding players in the game were Creg Johnson, Derrick Joy, Jeff McCollum, George Colburn, Leon Melvin and Richard Lide. Coaches say that better execu tion and fewer penalties helped the team to the win. The game was played under somewhat adverse weather condi tions and the quarters in the se cond half had to be shortened to eight minutes. Raeford Plumbing & Heating Co. PRESIDENT Bucks hit Scotland wall The Hoke County High School Bucks apparently ran against a wall Friday night as a Scotland County team beat them 35-0. "We just ran up against a better football team, that's all," said Hoke Head Coach Tom Jones. Although members of the Hoke team were playing against a team larger than they, the thing that hurt the Bucks most was the amount of fumbles in the game, said Jones. "Everytime we would get a little momentum going, we would fum ble the ball," the coach said. "Our turnovers kept us from establishing any offense," Jones said. Hoke fumbled the ball four times and recovered none of them. Jones and his Bucks were also placed in an tough spot on the front line because of age and ex perience, he said. Jones felt that he could have done a better job calling plays in a few cases, he said. One call in particular troubled the coach. With seven seconds to go in the first half and Hoke on the one yard line, Jones called a running play. "We should have thrown a quick one into the end zone," said Jones. Although their record is 0-4, the Bucks are still working hard "and have good attitudes," Jones said. Their work will not go un challenged as the team will face Anson County this Friday night. Anson has a record of 1-2 and have beaten Pinecrest. They have also lost to Terry Sanford and For rest Hills. "It ought to be an interesting contest," the coach said. "They don't have a slouchy team," said the Hoke Coach. "There are still some good things in front of our team," Jones said. Also in action last week, the Hoke County Junior Varsity team lost to Scotland 39-8, said Jones. Hoke's points came from a 25 yard run by Thomas Glenn and a safety early in the game. Cross Country team keeps winning Members of the Hoke County High School Cross Country team kept the momentum rolling as they beat running teams from Scotland County, Lee County and Rich mond County to take first place in a meet last Wednesday. Hoke's team finished first with 38 points while Scotland scored 47, Richmond scored 53 and Lee had 86. The team's record now stands at 9-0. Helping the team along greatly was speedster Don Wood who placed second overall in the cross country event. Also helping the cause was Robert Lambert who came in fourth, Rodney McNeill who plac ed ninth, Mike Hamlin who finish ed eleventh and Ronnie Locklear who placed twelvth, according to Coach George Drawhorn. "Everyone is running really great," said the coach. "Our goal is to go undefeated in the conference," he said. CHILDREN'S PANADOL TABLETS 30's VMreg. 2.82 CHILDREN'S '?
