Prison Art show to be held
at Cross Creek Mall Oct. 1 7
The Ninth Annual Prison Art
> Show will be held at Cross Creek
'? Mall, Fayetteville, October 17, 18
and 19.
The show is sponsored by the
North Carolina Department of
Correction to enable the public to
view the creative abilities fo the in
_ . dividuals incarcerated in the state's
>? 87 correctional facilitites.
I This year's show is hosted by
McCain Hospital and Cross Creek
Mall.
? The show will be open during
the regular business hours of the
mall.
The 1985 Art Show will consist
of 220 works from individuals
housed in correctional facilities
throuhgout the state.
These art works will come from
individuals housed in maximum
custody, the most secure, to those
housed in minimum custody, the
least restrictive; from facilities
such as Central Prison, Sandhills
Youth Center, and McCain
Hospital.
There will be cash prizes and rib
bons awarded for the Best of Show
and three categories of Drawings,
Paintings and Mixed Media.
These awards will be for first,
second, third and honorable men
tion in each category.
A People's Choice award will be
given on Saturday, October 19, for
the art work which is most admired
by the public.
Judges are for the Prison Art
Show have been chosen from the
Sandhills area. Stewart Fulghum,
Associate Director of the Arts
Council of Moore County, has
consented to be a judge.
Fulgham has a degree in Arts
Management from East Carolina
University. He has spent a lifetime
in the arts and has been with the
Arts Council of Moore County for
the past five months.
Joan Wicker owns and operates
the Classic Art Gallery in
Pinehurst.
Wicker is best known for her
portraits and has studied under
various impressionist painters.
Jill Shuford will also be helping
to judge the show. She is the
visiting professional artist at Sand
hills Community College for the
second year.
Shuford will be serving the
Moore County area as a communi
ty artist within the public school
system and doing presentations for
the public. She has a Master of
Fine Arts Degree from UNC-G.
Judy Leslie will also be a judge for
the show. She teaches tole and
decorative painting classes thru
Sandhills Community College.

Presbyteritui Church Sunday. Dr.
David Sutton's sermon topic was:
"Receive the Kingdom Like A
Child." "The Sacrament of the
Lord's Supper" was observed. The
choir was excellent in their presen
tation of "Let Us All Break Bread
Together."
Communion service was observ
ed at Tabernacle Baptist Church
Sunday morning. Randy Wood
was also baptised during worship

Surprise shower is given
Miss Lisa Madden was the
honoree for a surprise shower on
September 7. Hostesses were
Sharon Harden and Leslie Foster.
It was held in the Harden home.
A corsage of pink carnations
and lavendar ribbon was presented
to Miss Madden when she arrived.
The table decorations featured a
pink and lavendar parasol with
wedding koala bears.
Guests were served cauliflower
and carrot strips and a dip, nuts,
cake and punch.
Special guests were Mrs. James
Madden, Mrs. James Weaver, and
Mrs. Marie Brown.
Red pepper, chili pepper,
paprika and bell pepper flakes lose
quality in six months. Most ground
spices have begun to lose flavor
