Auto Miscues hurl Bucks Mistakes continued to plague the Hoke County High School Football team as they lost to Pinecrest High School last Fri day night 24-0. "We consistantly hurt ourselves with mistakes ? turn overs," said Head Coach Tom Jones. "It's not the kind of thing you can expect to win football games with," said Jones. The Bucks are winless in six starts. Throughout all defeats and mistakes, Jones and his team remain strong in spirit. "Our kids have continued to work and have excellent at titudes," Jones said. "Any less individuals would have folded," he said. "I have had friends in the coaching business that have gone through similar seasons. Kids would quit their teams. We haven't had any of that," said Jones. The Buck head coach has always maintained that even if his players don't win a single game, they will develop character while playing for him. "I think my players turn out to be better people because they played football at Hoke High," Jones has said. While Hoke High players are being trained to win football games, they are also being taught to be ambassadors for Hoke County, Jones has said. In last week's game, Hoke High did gain more first-down yardage than did Pinecrest, making 10 first downs to Pinecrest's 9. The Bucks were also penaliz ed less than their opponents having to take 5 yards in penalties to Pinecrest's 35 yards. The Bucks fumbled the ball six times and recovered a fum ble once. Pinecrest fumbled once and recovered it. Next week, the Bucks take on West Robeson. The team from the neighbor ing county is also winless, ac cording to Jones. "We're hoping with all our hearts for a win," said Jones. The Junior Varsity team from Hoke High handed their Pinecrest counterparts a defeat last week, beating their J.V. team 22-0, said Jones. "Our offense really got cranked up and scored 22 points," said Jones. The defensive unit also did a good job. "We didn't allow Pinecrest's J.V. team to get inside the 30-yard-line," said Jones. The J.V. Buck's record now stands at 3-3.
