Hoke County schools name teachers of the year McCallum tops at Hoke High Sarah F. McCallum, a Social : Studies, Current Events, Geography and Government , teacher has been selected to repre ? sent Hoke County High School as ? their Teacher of the Year. McCallum, a graduate of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Studies ? Education. She is now pursuing a Master's Degree in Library Science ? ? at North Carolina Central Univer sity in Durham, North Carolina. McCallum has taught at Up church Jr. High and Hoke County High Schools for 16 years. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, McCallum is very active in the North Carolina Association for Educators on the State and Local levels. McCallum loves young people of all ages and her greatest con cerns are to encourage them to Sarah McCaUum think, evaluate, and become ac tive, participating adults in our great and changing society. Scurlock names Edwards Brenda Edwards represents Scurlock as Teacher of the Year ? for the 1986-87 school term. Mrs. Edwards is a 4th grade nemedial : - reading teacher. Mrs. Edwards, an educator for IS years, graduated from East Carolina University with a Bachelor of Science and Masters of Arts Degreees in Education. She is a dedicated, creative, and en thusiastic worker and deeply devoted to giving her best to help her students. Mrs. Edward is involved in many professional and civic organizations. She is currently do ing graduate work at UNC Greensboro. Mrs. Brenda Edwards Bullard arrives at Hunter Field Army SP4 Tony R. Bullard, son of Lorraine and Clarence Bullard of Rural Route 1, Shannon has ar rived for duty with the 24th Infan try Division, Hunter Army Air field, Georgia. Bullard, an ammunition specialist, was previously assigned in West Germany. Upchurch picks Bailey as top teacher for year Besty C. Bailey, a 7th grade language arts teacher, has been selected as Upchurch Junior High School's Teacher of the Year for the 1986-87 school term. Mrs. Bailey, a native of Hoke County and a product of the Hoke County schools, is a graduate of Fayetteville State University hav ing earned both a Bachelor of Science Degree and Masters' Degree in Education. She has 24 years of teaching experience, eight and a half of them serving Hoke County students. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Mrs. Bailey has represented Upchurch on the School Base Committee, the county-wide Public Relations Committee, as a student advisor team leader, and on various other school committees. Mrs. Bailey and her husband Charles have four children and reside in the Rockfish Community. Wilkerson named at West Hoke Celeste O. Leighton Wilkerson, a first grade teacher, has been selected as West Hoke Elementary School's Teacher of the Year for the year 1986-87. ? Mrs. Wilkerson is the daughter of Arthur and Mildred Leighton of New York. Mrs. Wilkerson is a graduate of Fayetteville State University, Magna Cum Laude, with a Bachelor of Science Degree. Mrs. Wilkerson has taught first grade for Hoke County Schools the past six years. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Mrs. Wilkerson has represented West Hoke School on the School Base Committee, grade leader and various other school committees. Autry named at South Hoke Pandy Autry, a kindergarten teacher, has been selected as South Hoke School's Teacher of the Year for 1986-87 school year. Mrs. Autry is a native of Dunn. She is a graduate of University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, having earned a B.A. degree. in Early Childhood Education. She is working on her Master's Degree in Early Childhood as a curriculum specialist. She has seven years of teaching experience, four of them serving Hoke County students. Mrs. Autry is a member of San dy Grove Methodist Church in Lumber Bridge, UMW, President of Stonewall Ladies Auxiliary, IRA, NCAEYC and she is present ly serving on the Beautiflcation, Dental Health and Computer Committees at South Hoke School. Mrs. Autry and her husband George (Skip) have one daughter, a Pandy Autry Lindsay, and they reside in the Lumber Bridge community. McLauchlin taps Lester Glenda Lester, a second grade teacher at J. W. McLauchlin has been selected as Hoke County Teacher Of The Year for the 1986 - 87 school term. Mrs. Lester, a native of Hoke County, is a graduate of St. An drews Presbyterian College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in elemen tary education. She has 21 years of teaching ex perience, all of them at J. W. McLauchlin School. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Mrs. Lester has represented J. W. McLauchlin on the Teacher Advisory Committee, The Calendar Committee and various other committees. She is active in many profes sional associations including the North Carolina and National Association of Educators, The In ternational Reading Association and The National Parent-Teacher Association.
