VC a^Xaj .District deputies visit Hoke Eastern Star Chapter Susan C. Home and Cecil ^Fisher, District Deputies of the ?13th District, made their last of ficial inspection of Eastern Star Chapter 226 on Monday, October 14. , The Deputies brought greetings from the W.G.M. and W.G.P. and Explained the work they have been ' doing. They also expressed ap preciation for the courtesies which have been shown them. - The A.M. and A. P. presented honorary memberships to the Deputies and the W.M. and W.P. presented gifts to them. ** Jaxie Knowles, W.M., and Russell Knowles, W.P., presided for the meeting. Dignitaries introduced were Kathryn M. McRacken, Past Grand Matron, Pauline Potter, Grand Representative and Lota Woods, Grand Representative. Fourteen Grand Chapter Commit tee members, three Worthy Matrons, two Worthy Patrons and twelve past Matrons and Patrons were recognized. The visiting officials were honored with a covered-dish din ner before the meeting. Approx imately thirty members joined them for the meal. A reception in the fellowship hall followed the meeting. Births Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Tindall an ; nounce the birth of a daughter, $arah Nicole, on October 9 at Moore Memorial Hospital. Grand parents are Mrs. Betty Stanton and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Tindall. Great grandparents are Mrs. L.W. Stan ton of Raeford and Mr. and Mrs. James Laviner of Wagram. '? Mrs. Tindall is the former Linda Stanton. Mr. and Mrs. Archie Daniel Sanders announce the birth of a daughter, Ashley Tabitha, on September 25 in Cape Fear Valley ?Medical Center. > Mr. and Mrs. Akhtar Mahwood Nasir announce the birth of a daughter, Sadaf Jabeen, on September 28 in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Mr. and Mrs. Todd Keven Mac Donald announce the birth of a daughter, Chelcey Marie, on September 29 in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Mr. and Mrs. Prentiss Robinson announce the birth of a daughter on October 5 in Moore Memorial Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Hart (of Ft. Butler began her employ ment with the local facility as a Spinner in the Spinning Depart ment. She has spent her entire tenure in the Spinning Depart ment and presently works as a Spinner, in appreciation of her service she was presented a dia mond pin, certificate and gift by Plant Management. Former pastors who attended were Rev. and Mrs. Carl Strick land and family of Rockingham, Rev. and Mrs. J.E. Edens of Charlotte, Rev. and Mrs. Tom J. Fulk of Fayetteville, Capt. and Mrs. Archie Barringer and Becki of Raeford, Rev. and Mrs. David E. Miller of Fayetteville and Rev. and Mrs. James E. Dees and fami ly of Clement. Rev. Carl Strickland was in the pulpit for morning worship service and a bountiful meal was enjoyed in the Fellowship Hall following service. ? ? ? The community extends sym pathy to the family of Raymond Ludwell "Lud" Hales who died Tuesday morning, October 15. Funeral services were Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at the First Methodist Church in Laurinburg. Burial was in Raeford. He was formerly of Raeford and his wife was the former Marie Wilkes also of the Raeford area. * + * Circle #1 at Galatia Presbyterian Church met with good attendance at the church, Tuesday, October 15 at 10 o'clock. Mrs. Lillian Cook, Circle Chairman called the meeting to order. Miss Katie Black presented a very interesting Bible lesson on The Apostles Creed. After the meeting adjourned, refreshments were served and a fellowship hour was enjoyed. ? ? ? Annual Homecoming at Galatia Presbyterian Church will be Sun day, October 27th. Rev. Albert Edwards, Pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Raleigh and well-known television minister will be guest speaker at the 1 1 :00 o'clock worship service, followed by a picnic. The public is cordially invited. ? ? ? The annual Halloween Carnival will be held Saturday, October 26 from 4 to 9 p.m. at Upchurch Junior High School gymnasium. Everyone is urged to attend. The proceeds go to the Trainable Men tally Handicapped classes. There will be a "Country Store," various booths and games for children and adults. There will also be hot dogs and drinks for sale. So everyone please come out and have an even ing of fun and support a worthy cause. Woman's Clubs District to meet in Hoke Oct. 24 The 45th annual meeting of District 9 of the North Carolina Federation of Woman's Clubs will meet in Raeford at the Raeford Presbyterian Church on Thursday, October 24. Hostesses will be members of the Raeford Woman's Club and the Raeford Junior Woman's Club under the direction of Mrs. Darlene Clark. Mrs. Patti Simmons, President of District Nine, NCFWC, of San ford, will preside. Prior to the morning assembly, Mrs. Daphine Smith, of Rock ingham, District 9 Jr. Director will conduct a session for Junior Club women. Visiting state officers will be Mrs. Betty Weathers of Youngsville, President of NCFWC, and Mrs. Julie Hill of Greensboro, NCFWC Jr. Direc tor. Following the business session and addresses by the state officers, district awards will be presented to clubs and individuals for their acheivements and contributions to their communities during the past year.
