Array of blooms
Although members of the David A. Davis family have been waiting
for more than two years, this candelabra cactus waited until this fall to
bloom at the Fifth Avenue Raeford residence of the family. The
blooming cactus is considered a rare variety, Mrs. Davis says.
Extension Service offers
counseling for farm woes
The optimism that prevailed
throughout the farm scene in the
1970's has been replaced by a
growing sense of pessimism that
things will never quite be the same
again, says Willie Featherstone,
Hoke County Extension Chair
man.
Many of today's problems, low
farm prices, declining land values,
tight credit, resulted from deci
sions made during the 70's. Deci
sions that seemed right back then.
Placing the blame for the cur
rent situation has become an
obsession today. Some blame
government policies; others blame
general economic conditions. But
too many farmers facing financial
stress are putting the blame on
themselves. And that can get in the
way of making critical decisions
that need to be made now,
Featherstone points out.

Featherstone adds.
