Tenure award winner AUce L. Pettitt, Hoke home economics agent, receives a tenure award for 10 years of service from Dr. Chester Black, state director, N.C. Agricultural Extension Service. The awards ceremony was held Oct. 30 in Fayetteville. Pettitt receives award Alice L. Pettitt, home economics agent in Hoke County, received a tenure award at an N.C. Agricultural Extension Service awards program held Wednesday evening at the Bordeaux Inn. Pettitt was recognized for 10 years of service. Pettitt began her extension career as a 4-H agent in Wayne County after earning a B.S. degree in home economics from East Carolina University. She completed work on an M.S. degree in adult education at North Carolina State University and transferred to Hoke County in 1981. Pettitt was named a home economics agent in 1984. DSS taking applications for donated food program For individuals not receiving food stamps, the Hoke County Department of Social Services will take applications for the donated foods program. Sign up will occur on November 13 and 14 at the Department of Social Services on South Magnolia Street from 9 a.m. until 12 noon arid from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Individuals who are unable to come in may send an authorized representative. This representative must have a dated and signed statement from the individual that is being cer tified. Distribution will occur at the Old National Guard Armory on November 19th from 11 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.; November 20th from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. and November ^Ist from 8:30 a.m. un til 11 a.m. Stephen S. Quick Quick assigned to Chanute AFB Airman Stephen S. Quick, son of retired Army Sgt. 1st Class Carl H . and Maxine S. Quick of S. Wall McLean Road, Raeford, has been assigned to Chanute Air Force Base, Illinois, after completing Air Force basic training. During the six weeks at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization and customs and received special training in human relations. In addition, airmen who com plete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force. The airman will now receive specialized instruction in the avionics systems field. He is a 1984 graduate of Hoke High School.
