The place and time will be announced next week. Bobby Richardson, a former star for the New York Yankees, will be the featured speaker. Also on hand that night will be Joni Parker, Miss North Carolina, and Kim Evans, Miss Fayetteville. A little information about Bob by Richardson follows: Joining the Yankees at 19, he played in over 1400 games while the Yankees were winning the pen nant, eight of the first nine years. He played in the All Star games seven times and was winner of the Gold Glove Award five times. Bobby was MVP of the 1960 World Series and set records that still stand - most hits and most runs batted in, in a World Series. He retired at the height of his career at the age of 31. Richardson became a coach at the University of South Carolina and led the team to second place in the College World Series of 1975, with a record of 51 and 6. Active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes over the years, he is now President of Baseball Chapel. He is now Athletic Direc tor and Head Baseball Coach at Coastal Carolina College in Con way, S.C. So mark your calendar for this date and purchase a ticket from a member of the American Legion. ? * ? Sheriff Department reports also say that $100 worth of damage was done to a dogwood tree and a front yard located at the home of Charles Bowers, Rt. 2, Raeford. A motorist passed a stop sign and went into Bower's yard sometime Monday night or early Tuesday morning. Bowers said he did not notice tire marks in his yard at 3 p.m. Monday. Also, an attempted automobile theft was thwarted early Sunday morning, reports say. Larry D. Johnson, Rt. 3, Raeford, was at an after hours club in the McCain area when he saw someone breaking into his 1984 Oldsmobile parked outside the establishment. The suspect left the car and fled when Johnson approached - his vehicle. The deputies then apprehended James F. Richburg and charged him with breaking into the vehicle. According the Raeford Police Department files, 15 containers of cologne were stolen from Revco Drug Store on Wednesday, November 13. The cologne was valued at S98.25. Shirley Redman of Laurinburg has been arrested and charged with the theft. Also, a bicycle stolen on or about November 1 was recovered by Raeford Police officers at the Raeford-Hoke Village Shopping Center on November 14. Records show the bicycle was stolen by a 14-year-old youth who was turned over to the juvenile coyrt counselor. An investigation is continuing in the theft of two batteries stolen from Raeford Plumbing & Heating. A lock was cut off the fence of the business, records show. ...Sentence delayed for abuse (Continued from page 1) His sentence is to run concur rently with a three-year term im posed earlier in Cumberland County Superior Court. Locklear, 35, was arrested on February 22, 1984, by the Hoke County Sheriff's Department and charged with selling and delivering 0.3 grams of cocaine to a Cumberland County Bureau of Narcotics officer. In another case, Christopher Rossi, Rt. 2, Raeford, was sentenc ed to two years, suspended for five years of supervised probation. Rossi was found guilty of possessing a weapon of mass destruction (fragmentation gre nade); possession of drug paraphrenalia; and felonious possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana. As a special condition of proba tion, Rossi, 29, is to serve an active sentence of six months. He was fined $500 and ordered to pay $400 restitution. Also, Harold James McNeill, 36, entered a plea of no contest on a charge of assaulting a child. His bond is to remain at $10,000 secured. McNeill, Rt. 5, Box 319, Raeford, voluntarily submitted to evaluation by Sandhills Mental Health Center. He is to be sentenced during the January term of Superior Court. It is alleged that McNeill took indecent liberties with a girl under the age of 16 on February 20. Also, Lee Byrd Morrisey plead guilty to charges of misdemeanor possession of marijuana; failure to stop for a blue light and siren and speeding in excess of 75 in a 55 mph zone. Morrisey, 31, of Rt. 3 Raeford, also plead no contest to charges of intent to sell marijuana. Morrisey's sentencing will con tinue during the January session of Superior Court. In other cases during last week's superior court, this action was taken: ?Ricky Medeiros plead no con test to charges of forcible trespass ing and simple assault. He was sentenced to not less than six months, not more than eight months suspended for five years and fined S200 and court costs. Medeiros made an unpermitted entry on premises located at Rt. 1, Shannon, on February 13, records say. ?Troy La Bon bard, Rt. 2, Box 237 A, Raeford, was sentenced to three years suspended for five years and placed on supervised probation after he plead guilty to a charge of felonious larceny. As a special condition of proba tion, LaBonbard must serve 60 days in jail. Records show that on October 20, LaBonbard stole a 1982 Datsun truck, a bone handled sheath knife, a toolbox, two mens* jackets and a shotgun from Billy Sherman Butler Jr., of Rt. 2, Raeford. Montrose man is recovering A Montrose area man was recovering at home Tuesday after being shot apparently by his father two weeks ago. Andrew Richardson Parks, 23, of Rt. 3 was taken to Moore Memorial Hospital and treated after being shot through the arm and side allegedly by his father Julian Parks, 59. Andrew Parks was reported to be doing well and was not per manently injured by the shooting, the man's mother Dorothy Parks said. "This county needs good race relations," said Balfour. "An ac tive human relations council will be an asset to the county." County Manager William K.
