I Lumber Bridge News By Lib Swmaer Dr. D.E. Ward, surgeon in Lumberton, was the speaker for Foreign Missions last Sunday night at the Baptist Church. Dr. Ward gave an interesting talk on his experiences in a Nigerian hospital, the conditions of the hospital, homes, streets, food and clothing. A covered-dish supper followed the meeting. * * # Thursday morning the W.M.U. meeting was held in the fellowship hall with eight members present. Miss Dot McGougan gave a good program on Nigeria, India and Guatemala. After the meeting, the group had lunch at Chason's Restaurant. The Ladies Auxiliary will have a Bake Sale Saturday, Nov. 23 at the Fire Station. This sale will begin at 10 a.m. ? ? ? Mr. and Mrs. Sam Buttner of Franklinville, New Jersey, recently spent a week with Mr. and Mrs. A.T. Beck. ? * * Mr. and Mrs. S.F. Ammons spent several days last week with their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Ammons in Gastonia. * * * Spending last weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Talmadge Elliott and Jonathon were Mr. and Mrs. William Langley of Elizabeth City. Rockfish News By Polly Barnard Tel. 875-2736 The bazaar at Pittman Grove Baptist Church Saturday was a great success. Sunday was "Melanie Pittman Day" at the church. There was a singing Sunday evening and a love offering was taken for her. The Senior Citizens at Pittman Grove are having a bake sale at Food Lion Store in Raeford, Saturday November 23 beginning at 9 a.m. ? * ? Mr. and Mrs. E. T. Brock, Jr. had the misfortune of having a car crash into their home Thursday night. Fortunately no one was in jured but their was extensive pro perty damage to the house. ? ? ? Mr. and Mrs. Amos Grant, Jr. visited Mr. and Mrs. Rayborn Bar bour of Parkton Sunday. Mr. Bar bour was home after being hospitalized at Cape Fear Valley Hospital several days from a back injury. Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Turner, Jr., James and Jason of Fayetteville visited Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Turner, Sr. Sunday. ? ? ? Mrs. Anne Sessoms returned recently from a trip to annapolis. Glen Burnie and .Baltimore, Maryland to visit friends and relatives. She was accompanied by Mrs. Lib Pittman. * * * Guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Barnard the past week were Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Bar nard of Cheraw, South Carolina Wednesday and Mrs. Buie Dove also of Cheraw visited Saturday afternoon after visiting her grand mother, Mrs. Mamie Adkins. * * * The community was saddened by the sudden death of Mrs. Paul Heath who died Tuesday .morning while visiting relative* . in Charlotte. Miss White is the daugther of Mr. and Mrs Alton White of Raeford. Mr. Weaver is the son of Mr. and Mrs. David Lee Weaver Sr. of Johnstown, Pennsylvania. He lives in Sanford. Mr. and Mrs. Bert William Reese III announce the birth of a son, Brian Alexander, on October 31 in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Mr. and Mrs. William Henry McMillan announce the birth of a daughter, Kanisha Latrish, on November 4 in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Personals Mrs. Martha Bowers, her mother, Mrs. Nellie Wright of Aberdeen, and Mrs. Ann Wright of Raleigh visited Mr. and Mrs. Terry Tolar and Keith in Manteo last weekend. Mary Wallis McLean Balis has recently been honored for her outstanding work in the school where she teaches in Burnsville, Minnesota. She is the daughter of Mrs. Marianna McLean of Raeford and the late William Wallace McLean of Hoke County. Mrs. Hazel Lloyd has visited her son, the Rev. Frank Lloyd, and Mrs. Lloyd recently. Mrs. Laura Thomas and Miss Elizabeth Hoyle of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida returned home on Sunday from a visit in Raeford. Their sister, Mrs. Anne Upchurch is a patient in Manor Care Pinehurst. Gary and Susan Gentry were in Raeford for a visit with their parents Mr. and Mrs. Bob Gentry and Mrs. Laurence Bounds this weekend. Mrs. Dick Fountain of Rocky Mount spent a night with her mother, Mrs. J.H, Blue last week. Miss Carolyn Wilburn visited Avery and Norma Connell this weekend. Guests of Mr. and Mrs. Rodger Dixon were Helen Surles of Jacksonville, Florida, Gene and Marie Clark of Old Lyme, Con neticutt, Ted and Faye Clark of Lafatte, Louisianna. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Calloway had a fish fry at their home on November 16 for their family and some out-of-town relatives. Atten ding were Mr. and Mrs. Larry Morgan, Jeff and Jennifer from Cary, Robert and Jokey Calloway from Laurel, Maryland, Roy Calloway from Mt. Rainier, Maryland, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Edwards of Oakboro, and Mary Ruth Haire of Shannon. Chaminode Club meets The Chaminade Music Club met in the Fellowship Hall of the Methodist Church for its November 12 meeting. President, Mrs. L. S. Brock presided over a short business meeting. Final plans were made to assist in the presentation of the N. C. Symphony November 14. Mrs. William Colston accom panied the club in the singing of the Federation Hymn and the Hymn of the month. Two teachers from the School's music Department brought a very interesting program featuring in struments used by students in grades four through six. Club members were instructed in play ing the Recorder and the Orff by Mrs. Miriam McNeill, a Music Club Member, and Mrs. Phoebe Tucker, a guest of the club. Club Members were able to play a cou ple of simple numbers by the end of the program. Mrs. Gene Carter and Mrs. Wilton Wood served refreshments to Club Members and other guests. Swingers elect officers The local Square Dance Club, the Hoke County Swinger held there annual elections for the up coming year of 86. These members were elected to office: Thomas M. Maeko (Pres.), Billy- Graham (V. Pres.), Boflnic Russell (Sec. & Tres.), and Carolyn Kirkley (Social Chairman). The Hoke County Swingers welcome all old members, as well as any new member who would like to learn how to square dance. The club meets every second and fourth Wednesday of the month at 8 p.m. above Howell Drug Store. . If interested call Tommy Maeko at 875-2192. Miss Pamela Ruth Hoffman To be married Mr. and Mrs. G.E. Hoffmann of Route 3, Raeford announce the engagement of their daughter, Pamela Ruth, to Terry Michael Henry of Albuquerque, New Mex ico. The ceremony is planned for February 8, 1986 in the United Methodist Church of Biloxi, Mississippi. Slogan winner Jean Thompkins was the Safety Slogan Winner for the Burling ton Industries Raeford Plant for October. Jean will receive for her slogan a $25 gift cer tificate from the Employee's Store, reserved parking for one month, and a certificate of ap preciation.
