Nov. 20
TASTING PARTY -- The Hoke County Extension Homemakers will hold their annual Tasting
Party and Christmas Display on Wednesday, Nov. 20 from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Lester
Building on South Magnolia Street. Various dishes will be available for tastes at 10C a taste. The
10C will also include a recipe of the dish. There will be a display of Christmas decorations and
ideas, and crafts will be available for sale. The public is encouraged to attend. For more informa

VISITING AUTHOR - Elna Averette, librarian at Upchurch Junior High, has announced that
Nancy Roberts, a North Carolina native and author will visit Upchurch on Nov. 20. Roberts, who
has written several collections of ghost stories, legends and tales, will read some of her literature to
students. She will also have available books which can be purchased by students who reserved a
copy last week.
Nov. 22
BAKE SALE -- The Lung Association of North Carolina, Mid-State Region, will hold a Bake Sale
at the Edenborough Shopping Center on Friday, Nov. 22. Proceeds from the sale will be used in
Hoke County programs to prevent and control lung diseases, including emphysema, asthma, lung
cancer and chronic bronchitis; and to sponsor seminars and workshops related to lung diseases.
Cakes, cookies and various craft items will be available beginning at 9 a.m. Contributions of sale
items are needed for this fund-raising activity and your support will be appreciated. Call Jessie

Nov. 22-30
SENIOR ART SHOW -- Dale Cook, a senior at Methodist College, will be the featured artist in an
exhibit in the lobby of Horner Administration Building on the campus of Methodist College. The
show begins Friday, Nov. 22 and continues through Saturday, Nov. 30. Exhibit hours are 9 a.m. to
5 p.m. Cook, a graduate of Pine Forest High School in Fayetteville, will exhibit printmaking and
graphic design pieces.
Nov. 23
GIRL SCOUT DRIVE - A Hoke County Girl Scout membership drive will be held on Saturday,
Nov. 23 from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Turlington School Gym. Former Girl Scouts and those interested
in joining ages five to 17 are welcome. There will be singing, dancing, arts, crafts, films, a flag
ceremony and refreshments. Registration fee is $3. Parents are welcome.
WOODMAN BAKE SALE - The Hoke County chapter of the Woodman of the World will hold a
bake sale on Nov. 23 at 9 a.m. until at the Edenborough Shopping Center in Raeford.

'75 CLASS REUNION -- The class of 1975 of Hoke High will hold a class reunion meeting Sun
day, Nov. 24 at the Corner Cafe at 6 p.m. All interested persons are asked to attend. For more in

Pottery festival
75-it0ar-oid R. Emmitt Albright will be the featured
potftr at the 4th Annual Seagrove Pottery Festival
held Nov. 24 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Seagrove
School in Seagrove. Admission is $2. Children under
12 are free.
Nov. 20-23
NIGHT WATCH -- Casting is complete and rehearsal's underway for The Campbell Players fall
production of Lucille Fletchers' mystery, "Night Watch." The play will run on Nov. 20, 21, 22
and 23 at 8 p.m. in the new Ellis Theatre on the Campbell University campus. Admission for adults
$2.50, $1 for students in groups of ten or more, $1 for Senior Citizens, $1 for Campbell students
(with I.D.) and $2 for non-Campbell students. For more information, please call the Box Office at

NOVELIST READING -- Novelist Jill McCorkle will read selections from her works Thursday,
Nov. 21 at 8 p.m. at the weekly Writers Forum. The reading will be held in the Winston-Salem
Dormitory Lounge at St. Andrews Presbyterian College in Laurinburg. The public is invited.

ARSENIC & OLD LACE - Robeson Little Theatre in Lumberton presents "Arsenic And Old
Lace," a comedy by Joseph Kesselring. This famous farce provides a frenzy of hilarious activity in
its' fast-paced, light hearted treatment of murder. Two dear, well-meaning old maids invite lonely
old men to their Brooklyn home, only to poison them with elderberry wine. Their nephew, who
believes himself to be President Teddy Roosevelt, thinking the corpses to be yellow fever victims
buries them in the cellar. "Arsenic and Old Lace" is rollicking good fun; don't miss it at the
Carolina Civic Center, Nov. 21, 22, 23 at 8 p.m. and a Sunday matinee Nov. 24 at 2:30 p.m.
Tickets will be on sale at the door: Adults $4, students $2, senior citizens and groups of ten or more
$3.

TOXIC AND NUCLEAR WASTES -- The next meeting of United Concerned Citizens for
Ecology- Robeson County Committee, will be Monday, Nov. 25 at 7:30 p.m. The meeting will be at
the Cardinal Health Agency, 401 E. 11th St., Lumberton.

CHEER PROGRAM - The Hoke County Civic League will hold its annual Christmas Cheer Pro
gram at local churches. Mon., Dec. 2., Mt. Siani with Mt. Pisgah, Walls Chapel and Mt. Siani par
ticipating. Tues., Dec. 3, New Hope Temple with Millside, Silver Grove, Laurel Hill, and New
Hope Temple participating; Wed., Dec. 4., Shady Grove (401) with Buffalo Springs, Shady Grove
(Hoke), Mountain Grove and Shady Grove (401); Thurs., Dec. 5, Freedom Chapel with Leach
Springs, McLauchlin Chapel, Rockfish Grove, and Freedom Chapel and Fri., Dec. 6, Saint An
drews with St. James, Rockhill and St. Andrews. Services will begin nightly at 7 p.m. The public is
invited to attend and participate in these worship services.

CHRISTMAS PARADE - The Lumberton/Robeson County Chamber of Commerce will sponsor
the 27th Annual Christmas Parade on Tuesday, Dk. 3 at 4 p.m.

RAGAN AWARDS - Writers Mae Woods Bell and Frank Borden Hanes are the 1985 recipients of
the prestigious Sam Ragan Awards presented annually by St. Andrews Presbyterian College. The
awards wffl be presented in special ceremonies at 8 p.m. Dec. 5 in the Belk Center, St. Andrews
campus. The event it open to the public. Following the ceremony, the winners and Ragan will give
brief readings from their works.
