The committee met for the first time last week at the Employment Security Office in Raeford. "The purpose of this committee is to critique office services and to make necessary suggestions on ways of improving the office to better serve employees and the community in general," Burnest Graham, manager of both the Laurinburg and Raeford Job Ser vices Offices, said. Graham said that an employer committee has been in existence in Laurinburg since 1980 and that the time had come for Hoke County to have a committee of its own. "We want to refine our office and make it better," he said. Members of the committee in clude: Molene Russell, personnel director, House of Raeford; James McGill, owner of The Total Look; Bob Gregory, personnel director, Faberge; Shirley White, personnel director, Burlington Industries; Rhonda Holt, personnel director, City of Raeford; and Shirley Rush, personnel manager, Hoke County. John. Howard, Director of Economic Development Commis sion, is serving in an ex officio position. "This is something we are very proud and excited about and we want it to last a long time," Graham said. "We hope that other employers will either join this committee or will have an input by making sug gestions to members of the com mittee." Graham added. New savings and loan to open A new savings and loan will open its doors in Hoke County within two months, a company spokesman said Tuesday. Progressive Savings and Loan, Ltd. of Lumberton will begin operating a branch office in Raeford before March, spokesman Franklin Teal said. The opening of the Progressive branch is a result of efforts earlier this year to incorporate First Hoke Savings with Hoke County stockholders, Teal said. Stock sales fell short of the 51 .5 million needed to form First Hoke, and the merger with Progressive was necessary in order to open the doors on the new institution. Incorporators of First Hoke have notified their stock subscribers of their recent decision to support and become part of Progressive. Teal will serve as manager of the Raeford office, and other incor porators of First Hoke will be ap pointed to advisory board and management positions. The establishment of the branch office is subject to the approval of Progressive shareholders and the Savings and Loan Division, North Carolina Department of Com merce. An application for the branch approval has been filed in Raleigh. The proposed Chairman of First Hoke, R. Palmer Willcox, said more details would be announced soon regarding the location, ser vices and opening date of the of fice. Progressive was established in 1978 with two branches located in Lumberton. It is a state chartered institution with deposit accounts insured by the Federal Savings and Loan In surance Corporation (FSLIC). Raeford will be the institution's first office outside of Lumberton. . . .
