Dec. 5 RAG AN AWARDS - Writers Mac Woods Bell and Frank Borden Hanes are the 1985 recipients of the prestigious Sam Ragan Awards presented annually by St. Andrews Presbyterian College. Dec. 7-22 TRYON PALACE CHRISTMAS -- The joyous days are here again as Christmas descends upon the historic Ti^on Palace Restoration Complex in New Bern. Seabrook Auditorium. Ready for this year Wilton Wood ladles syrup into a pitcher during last year's Raeford Kiwanis Club Pancake Supper. The annual Fayetteville/Cumberland County Christmas Parade, spon sored by the Olde Fayetteville Association, will be held on Sunday, Dec. 8 at 2:30 p.m. in downtown Fayetteville. The parade will begin on Haymount Hill at the CBD Loop and will go straight down Hay Street, down the Olde Fayetteville Commons, around the Market House, down Person Street and will disperse at the Courthouse. The parade should end at approximately 4 p.m. just in time for everyone to gather in Cross Creek Park for the Lighting of the Tree and Musicale. LIGHTING OF TREE AND ??MUSICALE" -- The date, time and place for the Lighting of the Tree and "Musicale" festivities has been set for Sunday, Dec. 8 4 p.m., in Cross Creek Park in downtown Fayetteville. Apple cider and homemade baked goods will be on sale by the Fayetteville Cumberland County Youth Council with proceeds going to their various community projects. Ad mission to the park is free. It is recommended that you bring your own lawn chairs and arrive early to guarantee your stake at the park. Turlington School PTA will meet on Monday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. in the school's auditorium. After a short business meeting, the program will be turned over to Mrs. Phoebe Tucker and the J.W. Turlington Chorus. They will present, "Leon and the Christmas Starship" a short Christmas musical by Mary Kay Beale. The chorus will also perform such favorites as "Jingle Bells," "Nuttin for Christmas," "We Wish You A Merry Christmas," and many, many more. Dec. 10 MISS UPCHURCH -- The Student Council Association of Upchurch Junior High School will sponsor the Miss Upchurch pageant on Dec. 10 beginning at 7:45 p.m. Twenty contestants will vie for the title. Admission is $2 at the door. Parents will receive free passes. Miss Joni Parker, Miss North Carolina 1985, will be a special guest for the pageant. Miss Parker will also perform during the ceremonies. Dec. 10, 12 CANDY-COOKIE MAKING -- The 4-H program will offer a class on Homemade Candies and Cookies on Tuesday, Dec. 10 and Thursday, Dec. 12, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Classes are open to boys and girls ages 9-19. Participants will learn to make such candies as: chocolate covered cherries, peanut butter cups, mints, coconut balls, chocolate covered peanuts and pretzels, homemade suckers, as well as a variety of cookies. The cost is $3.50. Classes will be held at the Agricultural Extension Service on S. Magnolia Street. To register, call 875-2162 by Friday, Dec. 6. Class size is limited. Dec. 11 LIBRARY CLOSED -- The Hoke County Library will be closed Wednesday, Dec. 11 and the bookmobile will not operate that day. This closing will allow all library staff employees to attend a Staff Development Day for all libraries in the five-county Sandhill Regional Library System. Dec. 11-15 PASTOR'S ANNIVERSARY -- The members of Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church (Wagram) will be celebrating the pastor's 14th anniversary Dec. 11-15. Wednesday night, Dec. 11, Rev. S.C. Fairley and his congregation from Nazareth Baptist Church, Wagram will be the featured guests. Dec. 12, Rev. W.K. Mitchell and Silver Grove Baptist Church of Raeford, will render services. On Friday night, Dec. 13, Rev. C.M. Lyon and her congregation, from Mt. Grove, Raeford. Services begin each night at 7 p.m. On Sunday, Dec. 15, Eldress Louise Thomas, from Mt. Calvary and her congregation will render service at 11 a.m. Jan. 17-19 ANNIE -- The family musical Annie will be performed at the Cumberland County Auditorium Jan. 17-19.
