Classified adT SWAPPING PLACES McLauchlin students take over school positions On Friday, November 22, as part of American Education Week, students took over positions of authority at J.W. McLauchlin School. This feat was accomplished without a struggle; rather, students were asked to write essays in grades 2-4 or draw pictures in grades K-l. Each student chose a particular profession and either wTote or drew what he/she would do in that particular job. At 9:30 the word was announced over the intercom enabling teachers to become students while students became the principal, teachers, teacher assistants, the secretary, librarian and cafeteria manager. This experience provided an up close look of what the adults on campus really do in their jobs. The magic lasted briefly, as all too soon the intercom announce ment at 10 a.m. returned school to the original teachers. The students who were winners in this Take Over were: Bryan Manning, Heather Raynor, Frances McCullum, Ami Zota, Jeremy Beatty, Bart Upchurch, Vickie Lloyd, Jarad Edwards, Tomieka Bruton, Patrice Henderson, Lashonda McRae, Chiquita McQueen, J.J. Jones, Nora Stewart, Christy Strickland, Janet Davis, Mary Hathaway, Amanda Branch, Sabrina Hobson, Laura Foster, Beth Craig, Stephanie Jones, Consuela McFadden, Karan McGuire, Ratisha Peter kin and Dana Rozier. The students were not content to take over McLauchlin; several set their sights on higher goals. On Thursday, November 21, two students took over the positions of Superintendent of Hoke County Schools and Associate Superintendent. Jarad Edwards and Tomieka Bruton performed the tasks of these officials under the tutelage of Dr. Bob Nelson and Dr. Ginny Hayes. To promote the theme "The Subject Is Excellence," students also participated in a five-minute reading period each day as announced on, the intercom. All other activity at school was stopped immediately while students read -- in textbooks, library books, or personal books. Mrs. Ifma Hedgepeth demonstrated basketweaving in Mrs. Evans' class as part of the week's events. t, f*. ti c^a?-^ c3l -ojou^d. \j>j u?, ti\*s i.iyiLx^ i.+ .
