In the absence of the pastor, Mr. Archibald Johnson preached most acceptably to the congregation of tins church on last Sunday. He was known to our people as a gifted writer and editor but we found him a ( harming speaker as well. The large congregation enjoyed his tiinf ly remarks, though he said he was neither a preacher nor the son of a preacher, and appreciated his words of praise for the generous contribu tions from church and Sunday School to the. orphanage at Thomasville. Our town has rarely heard better spiritual sermons than this gifted young preacher has given us from time to time. Our people, irrespec tive of denomination, delight in ev ery opportunity to hear him. lie is leading his people wisely and well and a deeper spiritual impress pervades our town as a reflex influ ence from his deep piety.
