Wray, the evangelist at the First Baptist church next week, was for six years pastor of the First Baptist church, Miami, Florida. The Miami Metropolis says of him: "He Bpeaks rapidly and says more good things in thirty minutes than most men do in an hour." M. A. Jones has bought the mercan tile business of J. H. Burton and will assume charge as soon as inventory is completed. Ill health was Mr. Burton's reason for selling his stock of goods. Mr. Jones Is a well known business man and has a wide circle of friends and acquaintances. Miss Estelle Wbotton and Eugene Foster were quietly married Wednes day evening at 6 o'clock by Rev. H. C. Sprinkle at the Methodist parson age. They left Immediately for a bridal trip to Washington and other j places of interest. The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. T, Roane returned to W. J. PettlgreW the latter's automobile, which was seized by Special Prohibition Agent J, H. Johnson in Center Grove township several weeks ago. Joe Martin was found with the car, in which 16 gal ions of whiskey were being transport ed, according to charges preferred against Martin, who will be given hearing at the June term of Federal court in this city. Subsequently Pet tigrew claimed the machine and Judge James E. Boyd yesterday permitted him to recover it after the former filed $550 bond, the car having been appraised at this figure. Wray, who is to con duct the meeting at the First Baptist cburch beginning next Monday night, is a cousin of Tom, A. C. and Frank Dixon. The Atlanta Journal says of him: "Rev. John A. Wray Is perhaps the most: brilliant pulpit orator of his age in this country. He is a coulsn of the Dixons and gives evidence of the relationship in his eloquent and char acteristic speaking." The local - Chautauqua committee has received the dates for Reldsvllle's Chautauqua for the coming' season. These dates are June 15-21, inclusive. The patrons of Chautauqua will doubt less be pleased with the information that this season's program has among ether new features the Royal Belgian Veterans' Band. This is the biggest musical attraction that has ever been over this Chautauqua circuit. The band organization consists of vet- j erans of the Belgian army in the late war and will appear in the Royal Belgian uniform. j liquor and kept the money. 1 On this charge Ellis was bound over in the sum of $200 for trial at the next term cf Rockingham county Superior court. McCartney, president of the Chamber of Com merce, Saturday morning, to take ef fect as soon as another secretary is secured. In all probability the execu tive board of the Chamber of Com merce, as soon as it can get together, will urge Mr. Dunn to reconsider his resignation and remain on the job. It will be difficult for the board to ob tain a better man for the place, as all the business men of this city rec ognize in Mr. Dunn a hard and con scientious worker. Brownwood (Tex as) Leader. At Tuesday morning's session of Judge Humphreys' , recorder's court the . following, cases were tried: Will Garland, colored, was convicted of the charge of assault on Henry Bushnell, colored. Gus Ellis was tried on two charges. The first was on a warrant sworn out by V. W. Cook charging Ellis with obtaining money under fa'se pretense. It was alleged that Ellis was given $10 to secure a quart of whiskey. He failed to procure the lions and prescribed by physicians for over eighteen years.,.
