Roth Is Hostess to Wednesday Contract Club Mrs. Thomas Roth entertained the members of the Wednesday Contract Club and sufficient guests to complete two tables at her home on Terrace Avenue Wednesday. The guests were invited for luncheon at one o'clock and following the lunch eon bridge was played. Mrs. Carl Poindexter won the attractive high score award. inose making up the tables were Mesdames Charles Calhoun, E. C. Grier, Eugene Spainhour, H. C. Graham, Richard Chatham, Ray mond Chatham, Carl Poindexter and Alex Chatham. Intermediate G. A. Meets With Miss Newman The Intermediate Girls' Auxiliary of the Woman's Missionary Society of the First Baptist church met at the home of Miss Beatrice Newman Wednesday afternoon. The meet ing opened with the hymn. "Work For the Night Is Coming," which was followed by the devotional pe riod, in charge of the leader, Mrs. W. F. Reece. The program for the afternoon was under the direction of Miss Pauline Gilliam, assisted by Misses Mattie Lee Eidson, Lorene Pulp, Hoyland Harris, Fannie Sue Har ris, Hannah Reece and Virginia Lawrence. Mrs. Wellborn Entertains Garden Club al fcujuyaoie Meeting Mrs. W. R. Wellborn entertained the members of the Yadkin Valley Garden Club at a most delightful meeting at her home on Bridge street Thursday afternoon. White hawthorne and pussy willows were used in the living room, and decor ations suggestive of George Wash ington's birthday were used in the dining room and to decorate the re freshment plates. A program on the culture, plant ing, pruning and different species of roses was directed by Mrs. H. C. Sal mons. Others contributing papers were Mrs. George Royall and Mrs. H. P, Graham. Two piano solos, "To A Wild Rose" and "To A Water Lilly" (McDowell) by Mrs. J. H. Bee son, concluded the program. Members enjoying Mrs. Wellborn's hospitality were: Mesdames George Royall, H. P. Graham, H. C. Sal mons, Mason Lillard, E. F. McNeer, J. H. Beeson, J. F. Hendren and W. W. Whitaker. Mrs. W. A. Shores was a special guest of the club. Homemakers Class of First Baptist Church Enjoys Oyster Supper The Homemakers' Sunday school class of the First Baptist church en joyed an; oyster supper at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Silas Nichols on West Main street Thursday evening. Members of the class, which ds com posed of young married women, had their husbands as guests. The guests were met at the door by Mesdames Enoch Harris and Eugene Nelson and were given numbered hatchets, by which they found their supper partners. The patriotic motif, sug gestive of George Washington's birthday, was further accentuated in the decorations in the living room. Following the dinner delightful games and contests were enjoyed with attractive souvenirs going to Mrs. Beatrice Myers Phillips, Miss Mattie Mae Powell, Eugene Nelson and Fred Eidson. Mrs. Nichols was assisted in en tertaining by Mesdames H. F. Laf foon, Fred Eidson and Elmer Boyles. Mrs. Ashby Honored at Party By Mrs. Hugh B. Holcomb Complimenting Mrs. Charles Ash by, a recent bride, Mrs. Hugh B. Holcomb entertained at a delightful party at her home on West Main street Saturday afternoon. The guests were greeted at the door by the hostess and presented to the in formal receiving line which was com posed of the honoree, Mrs. Ashby, Mrs. W. S. Wolfe, Mrs. Judson P. Ashby and Mrs. William Ashby, of Mt. Airy. The lovely home was at tractively arranged with potted hyacinths and early spring flowers. Two tables were placed for bridge and two for rook. Mrs. Charles Ash by received a double-deck of cards for scoring highest in the bridge games and was also presented a piece of silver in her wedding pat tern, as guest of honor. The rook award fell to Mrs. T. A. Leeper, who received a folder of stationery. A salad course with nuremous ac cessories was served the following guests: Mrs. Ashby, Miss Sadie Franklin, Miss Ned Ball, Mrs. J. H. Beeson, Mrs. Fletcher Harris, Mrs. T. A. Leeper, Mrs. H. F.
