who is a patient at Sanatorium, N.
C. Friends of Mrs. Powers will be
glad to know that her health is
much improved and that she will re
turn to her home here within about
three months.

lightful informal dance at her home
on Circle Court Wednesday evening.
Evergreens and candles were used
to decorate the lower floor of the
home, was thrown ensuite. Punch
and individual cakes were served
during intermission.
About fifty guests enjoyed Miss
Click's hospitality. Out-of-town
guests were Misses Rouzer and
Gant; Miss Myrtle Motsinger and
Alex Motsinger, of Winston-Salem;

Wedding of Miss Helen Long to
William Rae Wall Is Announced

The marriage of Miss Long and
Mr. Wall will be of interest here,

She is the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. W. A. Long, of Tobaccoville,
and was graduated from Old Rich
mond High School and the Nurses'
Training School of Lawrence Hos
pital. For the past three years she
has been a member of the of
Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital
at Elkin.
Mr. Wall is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. W. L. Wall, of Tobaccoville. He
also graduated from the Old Rich
mond High School and is an alum
nus of the University of North Car
olina where he received his B. A.
and M. A. degrees, excelling in math
matics. He is a former member of
the Old Town high school faculty
and is now connected with the Jeff
erson Standard Life Insurance Com
pany at the home office in Greens
boro.

Miss Hall Honors Guest and Visitors
at Tea Saturday afternoon
One of the loveliest parties of the
season was on Saturday afternoon
when Miss Janie Hall entertained at
a formal tea at her home on West
Main street in honor of her sister
in-law, Mrs. Bernard Hall, Miss An
na Atkinson and Mrs. John Reich,
all of Washington, D. C., and Miss
Atkinson's guest, Miss Vivian Dren
nan, of Havre de Grace, Maryland
The. guests were greeted at the
door by Miss Catherine Hall and
presented to the receiving line which
was composed of the hostess and the
horjor guests. Mrs. French Graham
directed the guests to the dining
room, where Mrs. J. L. Hall, mother
of the hostess, and Mrs. Edworth
Harris served a tempting refresh
ment course, buffet style.
The lovely home was elaborately
decorated with evergreens ai\d can
dles, tall lighted tapers being used
to light the living room, dining
room and music room, which were
thrown ensuite for the entertain
ment of the guests. The dining
room table was covered with a hand-
some lace clojh and centered with a
silver star, which held a tall red
taper in either point.
About fifty guests called during
the afternoon. Goodbyes were said
to Mrs. Clyde Hall.
Miss Maruire and Mr. Harris Are
Married in Private Ceremony
In a quiet but impressive service
Friday evening at eight o'clock Miss
Mary Alice Maguire and Fred Mar
tin Harris, both of this city, were
married at the home of the bride's
parents, former Senator -and Mrs.
S. O. Maguire, on Gwyn Avenue.
Rev. E. W. Fox, pastor of the Meth
odist church and Rev. Eph Whisen
hunt, pastor of the First Baptist
church, officiated, using the im
pressive ring ceremony. Only the
immediate families witnessed the
service.
The bride and bridegroom entered
together, unattended. Miss Effie
Crater rendered the wedding music,
playing as a processional "The Bridal
Chorus" from Lohengrin and as a
ecessional Mendelssohn's "Wedding
March." To a Wild Rose (McDow
ell) was softly played during the
ceremony. Immediately after the
ceremony the young couple left for

ley of Virginia.
For her wedding the bride, who is
a striking blonde, wore a gown of
peacock blue crepe, with brown ac
cessories, and a shoulder corsage of
valley lilies and sweetheart roses.
For traveling she changed to a brown
cloth suit with matching accessories.
The bride is the eldest daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. S. O. Maguire. She
was educated at Appalachian State
Teachers College, Boone, and since
her graduation has taught in the
Surry county schools. The bride
groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Thomas G. Harris, also of this city.
He attended the University of North
Carolina and at present holds a po
sition with Elkin Furniture company.
Mr. and Mrs. Harris are now at
home at the Poindexter apartments
on West Main street.
