Thursday, July 4, 1935 Hugh Holcomb Is spending some time near Goldsboro, at the lodge of W. N. Johnagan. Miss Mary Sale is spending this week in Winston-Salem, the guest of Miss Carolyn Salmons. Lieut. David Brown left last week for Ocoee, Tenn., where he is sta tioned at a CCC camp. F. W. Graham and W. I. Shugart left Wednesday for Charlotte to attend the annual postal convention. Mrs. Willard Jamison and sons, Willard, Jr., and Pulton, left Friday for Buffalo, New York, where they will spend the summer. Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Holcomb and little daughter, Sara, spent Sunday in Cornelius the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Stough. W. A. Neaves spent the early part of the week in Pliiladelphia, attend ing to business matters for Chatham Manufacturing Company. Mr. and Mrs. O. B. Lothery, of Cornelius, were thfe guests Monday of Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Holcomb, at their home on West Main street. Miss Merlie Reavis, of New Jersey, is visiting her parents at Lone Hickory, and her sister, Mrs. V. L. Renegar, in Jonesville. Stewart Shore, of Winchester, Va., is the guest this week of his parents, Dr. and Mrs. T. W. Shore, at their home in Boonville. Mr. and Mrs. M. S. Chandler, of Mount Airy, were the Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Dave Masten, ar their home on Elk Spur-street. Mrs. Coke Marion attended a par ty given by Mrs. Sparger Robertson at tier home in Mount Airy Wednes day afternoon. Mrs. Addie McCollum', of Reids ville, is the guest of Dr. and Mrs. W. D. Greenwood, of Winston-Salem, spent the week-end here the guest of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. N. Bodenheimer, at their home on Elk Spur street. Mrs. Theodore Mayberry, of Ven ice, California, will arrive today for an extended visit to her parents, Mr. and Mis. George Chatham, at their home on West Main street. Miss Margaret Brendle, of Wins ton-Salem, is spending this week here the guests of Misses Pauline and Betty Mae Masten, at their home on Elk Spur street. Mrs. John F. Gilliam and little daughter, Louise, of Long Beach, California, are here on an extended visit to Mrs. Gilliam's mother, Mrs. E. B. Ingram, and other relatives. Misses Verneal and Mercedes Whalen, of Clinton, Illinois, were the guests last week of Dr. and Mrs. C. E. Nicks, at their home on Church street. Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Masten and Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Hardy, of Wins ton-Salem, were the Sunday guests of Miss Laura Masten, at her home in East Elkin. W. R. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Poindexter and guest, Miss Sarah Mae Edger ton, spent the week-end in Oak Ridge, the guests of Mr. and Mrs. B. B. Stafford. Mr. and Mrs. James Poindexter returned Monday from, Shatley Springs, where they spent the past ten days. Friends of Mr. Poindex ter will be glad to know that he has recovered from a recent illness. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Reich and Mr. and Mrs. Norman, Boren, of Greens boro, were guests Monday of Mrs. Reich's parents,. Mr. and Mrs. Van Poindexter, at their home on Gwyn Avenue. / Mrs. T. G. Callahan and daughter, Margaret Snow, of Raleigh, were the week-end guests of Mrs. Stewart's and Mrs. Callahan's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Snow, at their home here. He was accompanied by Miss Kay Young, of Wilkesbarre and George Newman of Greensboro, who are also guests in the Chatham home. Revival To Start At Jonesville July 11th The Rev. Thomas Aarnon, of Franklin Springs, Ga., will come to the-Pentecostal Holiness church in Jonesville, July 7, for a series of re vival services, which will continue from July 7 through the 21st. Ser vices will be held each evening at 7:45. Rev. Aarnon is president of the Holiness church school in Franklin Springs and is much interested in young people. His messages are in teresting and inspiring and a cordial invitation is extended the public to hear him. The Wall quartette will bring gos pel messages in song at each ser vice. R. W. Elkin Post Office Regains Second Class Status The Elkin post office advanced to second class status July 1, it was learned from Postmaster F. W. Graham Wednesday, who stat ed that receipts of the office for the first half of the fiscal year show a gain of 15 per cent over the corresponding period, in 1934. Four Are Arrested In Wilkes Sunday Connie Rhodes and Red Finney, of Jonesville and James Collins and wife, Ivoma Thompson Collins, of Thurmond, were arrested on a charge of public drunkenness Sun day by Deputy Sheriff W. B. Hall, in Wilkes county. Tried before Justice of the Peace F. P. Holcomb, Finney, Rhodes and Mrs. Collins were taxed with the costs and put under a suspended sen tence of one year upon the condition they be of good behavior.
