News of Jonesville Mrs. Gurney Wagoner, Editor Miss Pauline Gilliam had as her house guest a few days last week Miss Ruth McMillan, of Sparta. Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Jones, of State Road, were here Saturday afternoon visiting friends. Mr. and Mrs. Troy Latham, of Winston-Salem, visited Mr. and Mrs. Thurmond Harris on Sunday. Misses Rama Blackwood and Madeline Thompson spent last week visiting Miss Anne Castevens, of Cycle. Mrs. J. P. Phillips spent last week with her brother, Joe Hayes, and family, at Purlear. The many friends of J. D. Comp ton will regret to learn that he was carried to a High Point hospital early last week, where he had to undergo another operation. His friends wish for him a speedy recovery. Mrs. J. M. Green has been very sick for several days, but is improv ing slowly at this writing. Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Feimster and family, and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Reece and little son. Billy, of Winston- Salem, spent Sunday with their mother, Mrs. W. F. Reece, and Mrs. Bill Hudspeth, Mr. Reece's sister, who is very sick in the Hugh Chatham hospital. Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Lineberry and Mrs. Arthur Martin visited friends and relatives at Boonville Monday night. Miss Dorothy Feimster returned to her home in Winston-Salem Sunday after spending the week with rela tives. Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Eller and Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Pittman and sons, visited Mr. and Mrs. M. F. Roberson, at Hudson Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Walter Wright, of Yadkin ville, is visiting her mother, Mrs. W. Mcßride. j Master Billie Mcßride accompanied them home to spend a few days. 1 Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Walls and daughters, Marjorie, Edna and Mary,' of Sparta, spent Sunday with Mrs. Hulda Brandon, at her home in Ar lington. > Ed Couch and Mrs. Ada Swaim spent Sunday at Roaring Gap, sight seeing. Mr. and Mrs. V. L. Renegar and children and Miss Ruth Mayberry attended the Reavis reunion at Courtney on Sunday. ' Mrs. W. V. Holcomb returned home Saturday from Martinsville, Va., and Durham, where she was called on account of the serious illness of her brother, W. M. Macey. He is in the Duke Hospital, at Durham. The la test report is that.he is improving slowly. Miss Elizabeth Perry, of Martinsville, accompanied Mrs. Hol comb home for the week Thompson Greenwood made a business trip to Raleigh last week. Mrs. J. G. Ray has been real sick for several days her.friends will re gret to learn, but she is resting some better at this writing. Mr. and M!rs. L. B. Martin and I family, of Raleigh, spent a short I while with his sister, Mrs. Z. D. Greenwood, on Sunday. C. Pittman left Tuesday morn ing for Lafollett, Tenn., after spend ing several weeks here with relatives. Mrs. Pittman and children will re main for a few more days. Mesdames H. L. Holcomb and Theodore Mayberry spent last Thursday with their sister, Mrs. George Hart, at Wilkesboro. Mr. and Mrs. D. R. Castevens and sons, Kenneth and Elton, and Miss Dessie Reeves spent Sunday after noon at Mills Home, at Thomasville. The two and one-half-year-old! daughter of Archie Wilmoth re ceived very painful burns last week and is in a very serious condition. Bahnson Greenwood went sight seeing to Asheville and other places last week and visited his brother Z. D. Greenwood at the CCC camp at Brevard. j Misses Beulah and Ruby Adams spent Sunday in Statesville with their sister, Louise Adams, who is . very sick in a hospital. ' Miss Blanche Taylor, of Winston- Salem, visited her sister, Miss Carrie Taylor, last week. Melody Music Club Meets Friday Afternoon , The Melody Music club met at the home of Misses Loraine and Vir ginia Lineberry Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Business was discussed and the motto "Music Exalts Life," was chosen by the class. A program was rendered by the members of the club. A delightful refreshment course was served following the program. FARMERS ARE BUSY WITH THRESHING Are Holding- Free-Vac cination Clinics In Bethel Community Ronda, Route 2, July 30. The 1 farmers have been quite busy this week threshing. The yield of small ' grain is said to be fair through this community this year. The good show ers oNrain during this month have made the corn and tobacco grow well. Lots of tobacco is being put into barns to be cured this week. I Dr. A. J. Eller, county health of ficer, witn the county nurse, was here last Thursday at the church at noon for the purpose of administer ing vaccinations. Dr. Eller says they will be here three more Thursdays, and urges the people to take advan tage of the opportunity for free vac cination against contagious diseases. He has had several cases of typhoid fever replied to his office, but none who have taken this vaccination within three years. R. B. Pardue and his mother spent a while last Saturday at their farm east of Elkin, in Surry county. I Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Armstrong and |J. M. Sparks, of Winston-Salem, I were the dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Gilliam, Jr., last Sunday. I Eugene Jones is spending a few days this week at Chapel Hill. Miss Lucile Mauldin visited Misses Lucy and Huzzie Myers last Satur day and Sunday and went with theni to their Sunday school at Swan Creek Sunday morning. Lu cille has a fine record of attendance at Bethel, her home Sunday school. This being the first Sunday she has been absent this year, however she was in Sunday school just the same —a good place to be. Miss Norma Gilliam, of Jonesville, spent a few days last week visiting her aunt, Mrs. J. T. Stroud. Norma | is such a splendid little cook, she wanted to bo there to help her aunt cook dinner for the threshers. Mr. and Mrs. Romey Pardue and Miss Lillie Triplett, of Jonesville, and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Triplett and little daughter, Margaret, of Elkin, were the Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Triplett. Mr. and Mrs. Triplett also had as their guests on Mionday Mrs. John P. Gil liam and daughter, Little Miss Louise, who are on an extended visit here in this state from Long Beach, Cali fornia. Mr. and Mrs. Salem Seveirs, of Winston-Salem, spent last week-end here with the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Lewis. Mrs. C. W. Gilliam, Sr., will re turn to her home here the latter part of the week, following a week's visit to her brother and family, at Mount Airy. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Morrison and daughters, Misses Louise and Annie Lee, and son, Elmer, visited Mrs. Morrison's sister, Mrs. Lan don Mendenhall, and family, near Boon ville, last Sunday. Meiribers and all who wish to help are asked to meet at Bethel church next Thursday afternoon, August 1, for the purpose of cleaning the church yards and graveyard. Mrs. Bob Cheatwood underwent a major operation at a Statesville hos pital last week. Miss Verlie Shore spent Wednes day of last week in Boonville visit ing Miss Ollie Brown. Mrs. Thurman Bass and little daughter are spending a few days in Salisbury with Mr. and Mrs. Neal Axson. Clarence Greenwood spent Mon day in North Wilkesboro attending to business matters. Grady Burgiss, of Elkin, will preach at Little Richmond Baptist church the second Sunday in Au gust at 11 o'clock. The public is cordially invited to attend. Mr. and Mrs. M. G.
