Arnold since Sun day. The many friends of Mrs. W. V. Holcomb will be glad to know that she was able to be removed to her home from Hugh Chatham Hospital Monday. The W. M. U. of the Baptist church will observe "Week of Prayer" on Thursday evening, Deceber 19, at the Baptist church. A short program will be given and all are invited to come. Mrs. Frank Chappcll, who is spending the winter here with her son. Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Chappell, is spending this week with her daugh ter, Mrs. Thomas Swaim, of Cycle. Mrs. Swaim is very ill at this writing. The many friends of Mrs. J. G. Ray will regret to learn that she is ill at Davis Hospital, Statesville. The Sunbeams met at the church on Wednesday afternoon, December 11, at 4 o'clock, with 13 members present. An interesting Lottie Moon and song prosram was given by the children. Mrs. Arthur Martin and son Leon, and daughter, Magdalene, and Miss Mildred Harris spent Tuesday in Winston-Salem. The many friends of J.D. Eller will be glad to learn that he is home af ter spending a week in Hugh Chat ham hospital for treatment. Mr. and Mrs. Dan Compton spent the week-end in Statesville visiting Mr. Compton's parents. U. of Jonesville Methodist Church Meets With Mrs. L. S. Weaver The W. M. U. of Jonesville Meth odist church, met at the home of Mrs. L. S. Weaver on Thursday even ing, December 12, at 7:30 o'clock with 12 members present. The topic, "In Gathering of Mis sions", "was discussed Dy members. A Christmas program and Christmas carols were rendered. The* program was in charge of Miss Iris Minish. During a nice social hour refresh ments were served. 1 The Rose Marlowe Circle Meets At the Home of Mrs. F. A. Lineberry The Rose Marlowe Circle of Jones ville Baptist church, met at the home of Mrs. F. A. Lineberry, on Thurs day evening, December 12, at 7:30 o'clock, with 14 members present. The meeting was opened with the singing of "Silent Night," followed by the devotionals led by Miss Virginia Lineberry. The topic, "Lifting the Banner of the Lottie Moon Christmas Offer ings." was discussed by the different members. Two special duets were rendered. Little Misses Cornelia and Jean Lineberry sang "Christmas Song" and at,the close of the pro gram Misses Loraine and Virginia Lineberry sang "Must I Empty- Handed Be?" Delicious refreshments were served during a delightful social hour. Poems from the Grave were pub lished by Dante Gabriel Rossetti who had all his manuscripts buried in his wife's grave. The largest sum went to tobacco grawers, who received $1,443,792.83. Cotton growers got $997,218.76, corn hog producers $128,642.57 and wheat growers $8,432.63. In addition, cotton growers who placed surplus tax-exemption certi ficates in the national pool received $11,361.73 from the sale of these certificates to other growers. The $437,904.53 in administrative expenses went largely to pay com mitteemen, farmers who help ad- minister the programs locally. Dean Schaub pointed out. The rental and benefit payments are still flowing to the farmers, he added, but the amount for October anJ November have not been tabu lated lo date. The payments are made from funds raised by processing taxes on the commodities covered by the var ious adjustment programs. Benefit payments on all crops in this county for July, August, and September were $39,462.16. W. F. Page of Greensboro, has accepted a call to Elkin as pas tor of the Pilgrim Mission, and ex pects to move here soon. Rev. Mr. Page is said to be an excellent preacher and has had experience as an evangelist. Services are held each Sunday at 11:00 and 2:30 o'clock.
