Va., was the house guest of Bill Burch at Rusk during the past week-end. Wyman Poore of New York, ar rived Monday for a visit of several days in the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Neaves, on Bridge street. Miss Olive Lawton, of Kaifeng, China, arrvied Monday for an ex tended visit with Rev. and Mrs. Eph Whisenhunt, the latter her sister, at their home on Church street. Alex Chatham, 111, a student at Duke University, Durham, will ar rive Friday for a holiday visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alex Chatham, on East Main street. Alexander Smith, a student at Davidson College, arrived home to day to spend the holidays with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Smith, at their home on Gwyn Avenue. Mr. and Mrs. W. V. Holcomb had as their guests over the week-end at their home in Jonesville, Mrs. Holcomb's brothers. Walker and Wayne Macey, of Spray. Miss Jo Swanson of Pilot Moun tain and Mount Airy, spent the week-end here the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Boyles, at their home on West Main street. Harold Messenger and son, Dicky, of Hartford, Conn., will arrive Sun day to join Mrs. Messenger and lit tle daughter, Betty, for a holiday visit with relatives here. Rufus Crater, a student at Wake Forest College, Wake Forest, will ar rive Friday to spend the holidays with his mother, Mrs. R. P. Crater, on Gwyn Avenue. Mrs. Bryan Collins and little son, John Bryan, of Boone, arrived Mon day to spend the week the guest of Mrs. W. A. Shores, at her home on Bridge street. : Russell Burcham, a student at North Carolina State College, Ral eigh, is spending the Christmas holidays here the guest of his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. James Burcham. Howard and children, Elizabeth and C. 8., 111. of Atlanta, Georgia, will arrive Sunday to spend the holidays with Mrs. Howard's parents. Rev. and Mrs. L. B. Abernethy, on Hospital Road. Friends of Miss Charlotte Byrd will be glad to know that she re turned to her home here Monday from the Baptist Hospital, Winston- Salem, where she recently under went a major operation. Miss Elizabeth Shores, a student at Greensboro College for Women, Greensboro, arrived today to spend the Christmas holidays with her mother, Mrs. W. A. Shores, on Bridge street. Dr. Ethel Abernethy of the facul ty of Queens-Chicora College, Char lotte, will arrive Friday to spend the Christmas holidays with her parents, Rev. and Mrs. L. B. Abernethy, at their home on Hospital Road. Friends of Mrs. C. F. Lineberry will be glad to know that she has re covered sufficiently from a recent illness to be removed to her home on Church street from a Statesville hospital, where she has been a pa tient for several weeks. Miss Marjorie Meed and Jimmy Meed returned Wednesday from a visit to relatives in Pittsburgh, Pa., and Parkersburg, W. Va. They were accompanied home by Miss Regina Meed, who has been spending the past several months in Pittsburgh. Misses Sarah Kelley and Thor burn Lillard, students at Queens- Chicora College, Charlotte, will ar rive today to spend the holidays with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mason Lillard, at their home on Gwyn Avenue. Mrs. Ida Cockerham will have as her guests during the holidays Mr. and Mrs. p. D. Pegram, of Roanoke, Virginia, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Shore and son, of Yadkinville, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Cockerham, of Sanford and Mr. and Mrs. P. M. Poore and children, of Mount Airy. Among those from here attending the celebration of the sixtieth wed ding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Atkinson at Siloam Sunday were: Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Atkinson and son, Sam, Mrs. W. M. Cundiff, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Bivins, Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Norman and Van Poindexter. Mrs. A. IJ. Thomas of Taber, lowa, arrived Wednesday to spend the Christmas holidays the guest of her sister, Mrs. Roy Barker, at her home on West Main street. Mrs. Barker also had as her guest on Wednesday another sister, Mrs. George Cheek of Sparta. Mrs. Jennie Chatham returned Sunday from Springfield, Mass.. where she spent three months the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Roswell Cheves, the latter her daughter. Enroute home she visited her sister, Mrs. Etta Nichols, in Spray, for a few weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Hoy Moose and lit tle son, Hoy, Jr., of Mount Pleas ant, were the week-end guests of Mrs. Moose's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Whitaker, at their home on Church street.
