The Sunshine Philathea Class
of the Sunday school of Elkin
Valley Baptist church met at the
home of Miss Louise Tulbert in
North Elkin Friday evening at 8
o'clock with twelve members and
two visitors present.
Mrs. Oscar Darnell, class pres
ident, presided over the business
meeting. The program was in
charge of Misses Carolyn New
man, Hortense Darnell and Mary
Bell Davis.

teacher, offered the closing pray
er.

Mrs. A. D. Folger of Dobson
entertained the members of the
Friday Morning Bridge club at a
delightful bridge-luncheon at Ho
tel Elkin Friday morning. Bridge
was played at two tables-with the
high score award for club mem
bers going to Mrs. A. B. Somers.
Mrs. Will Hollingsworth of Mount
Airy, a special guest, and Mrs. Ira
Tuttle of Raleigh, guest of Mrs.
Errol Hayes, were each given a
lovely remembrance.
At the conclusion of the games
the guests were served a beauti
fully appointed luncheon at a ta
ble reserved in the main dining
room. The table was centered
with a bouquet of yellow and
white summer flowers and covers
were placed for the following:

Armfield
Honoring Mrs. C. G. Armfield,
one of the charter members of
the Wednesday Afternoon Study
Club, members of the club enter
tained at a lovely luncheon at
Hotel Elkin Tuesday at one
o'clock, as a farewell courtesy to
Mrs. Armfield who will leave Fri
day for Roanoke, Va., to make
her home.
At the beautifully appointed
table, which was centered with a
silver bowl filled with phlox, as
ters and snapdragons, and flank-'
ed on each side with silver vases,
filled with flowers In the same
soft shades, covers were placed
for Mrs. Armfield, Mrs. R. B. Har
rell, Mrs. Fred Neaves, Mrs. Mar

honor at a lovely party Thurs
day evening when Mrs. J. Walter
Darnell and Mrs. H. F. Laffoon
entertained at the home of Mrs.
Darnell on Gwyn Avenue. A
color scheme of pink and green
was accentuated in the decora
tions and appointments.
Bingo was enjoyed during the
evening. The high score award
went to Miss Barbara Weir at the
conclusion of the play and the
consolation prize to Mrs». W. A.
Finney. Mrs. Isley was presented
a lovely gift as guest of honor,
and Mrs, Sterling Strange, of
Richmond, Va., guest of Mrs.
George Roy all, was given a re
membrance.
At the conclusion of the game
a prettily appointed ice course, in
which the colors of pink and
green were carried out in detail,
was served.
