Opening song, "The Morn ing Light is Breaking." Devotion als conducted by Mrs. Kmmn. Hampton. Program leader, Mrs. R. A. Freeman was absent because of cold. Miss Norman, the president, presented the topic, "Southern Baptists, Sheaves with Rejoicing," and spoke of the dawn of a golden year, the Baptist Missionary Ju bilee. In celebration of the fif tieth atmlversary of our W. M. U., it is called our "Golden Jubilee." "Sheaves with Rejoicing" is the theme of our program topicfc for the year. May we resolve to fill the year with golden memories, gifts and service. Mrs. D. T. The Junior Missionary Bociety of the Methodist Church met on Wednesday evening with Mrs. Elizabeth Bolick. Mrs. F. F. Riggs was program leader. Subject, "Missions," was discussed by Mrs. Dr. Carl Folger and others. Dur ing the social hour Mrs. Bolick served a salad course with coffee. Sidney Jones, Jr., spent the week-end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. F. Jones at Yadkin ville. Rev. C. W. Russell filled his regular appointment at the Meth odist Church Sunday morning. He spoke on "Is Life Worth Living?" Mrs. T. L. Robinson spent Sat urday in Elkin mainly in the in terest of the Dobson Woman's, THE ELKIN TRIBUNE, ELKIN. NORTH CAROLINA Club Bazaar to be held at the club house next Wednesday even ing. Atty. W. L Reece, who has been at home with cold for a week, is able to be out again. Miss Marguerite Alexander spent the week-end with her sis ter, Mrs. John York at Mt. Airy. Miss Jacqueline Dormlny, teacher of tap, ballet and other arts, spent Saturday in Dobson organizing a class of dramatics to be held in the woman's Club house each Saturday. Court closed Thursday. Febru ary term will convene on the 14th to be held three weeks. Mrs. Dr. Joe Folger, Mrs. Eliz abeth Bollck and Mrs. B. F. Fol ger went to Durham Monday with Mrs. Edwin Bowles, who remain ed at Duke Hospital for two weeks medical treatment. PLEASANT HELL Sunday school was Well attend ed Sunday and the pastor. Rev. Isom Vestal delivered a very in spiring sermon at eleven o'clock. The ladles chorus rendered special music. Sunday night the pastor preached another wonderful ser mon and the male chorus fur nished special music. Visiting ministers were Rev. Richard Day and Rev. Cleate Simmons. Miss Frances, Alexander of Elk in, was the Sunday guest of Miss Gypsle Burcham. Misses Mattle and Nellie Petty- John, of Winston-Salem, spent last week-end with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Pettyjohn, of this community. Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Creed, of Elkin, were the Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. David Darnell. PARKS HAMPTON MOVES OFFICE TO LEXINGTON Parks G. Hampton, for the past eight years an attorney here, has moved to Lexington where he will share an office with Judge D. L. Pickard, of the county court. .Although enjoying a good prac tice here, Mr. Hampton stated the reason for going to Lexington was on account of the ill health of Mrs. Hampton, who is a native of Lexington. Last year's toll was 25 more than in 1935, when the previous high was established, and nearly 100 more than in 1936. when 1,026 persons lost their lives in high way mishaps. The division said there was one fatality for every 341,168 gallons of gas consumed In 1937, com pared with one highway death for every 331,404 In 1936 and one for every 284,433 gallons in 1935. Every 522 nd car was responsible for one death in 1937; every 536 th for one in 1936 and every 468 th for one in 1937, the division reported. The report for 1937 showed 7,413 accidents, resulting in 7,980 injuries. SWAN CREEK Among the sick in this com munity this week are Mrs. Bcttie Harris and R. L. Gregory. Mr. and Mrs. Coy Vestal of Greensboro, spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Ves tal. Miss Lucy Myers is recovering nicely from an operation on her hand about two weeks ago. Misses Evelyn and Anna Lee Swaim of Ronda, were the Sun day guests of Miss DeEtte Swaim. Little Miss Vena Mae Osborne spent the week-end in Elkin with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Osborne.
