Methodist Group to Meet Monday The group meeting of the cir cles of the Woman's Missionary Society of the Methodist church will bo held at the church Mon day afternoon, February 21, at 3:30. All members are invited to attend. Baptist Group Meeting Monday Afternoon The group meeting of the circles of the Woman's Missionary Socie ty of the First Baptist church will meet at the church Monday after noon at 3:30. The Sunbeams will meet at the church at the same hour. All members are invited to at tend. Mrs. Graham is Hostess to Club Thursday at Luncheon Mrs. H. C. Graham was hostess to members of her bridge club and several visitors at a delight ful bridge-luncheon at her home on Terrace Avenue Thursday. Bridge was played at two tables. The club award for high score went to Mrs. R. B. Harrell and the visitor's prize to Mrs. Chas. G. Ashby. Mrs. E. C. Click was a special luncheon guest. W. S. Hinson is Honored on Birthday Anniversary Mrs. W. S. Hinson entertained a few friends and relatives at a delightful party at her home in East Elkin Saturday evening to honor her husband on his birth day anniversary. String music furnished enter tainment for the guests. A handsome birthday cake, bearing thirty-nine candles, and decorated in pink and white, was the central decoration in the din ing room, where the guests were invited for refreshments. Cake, punch and sandwiches were ser ved. The guests were presented Valentine favors. Miss Gray is Hostess at Party Wednesday Evening Miss Lucy Gray entertained at a lovely Valentine party at her home on Franklin Street Wednes day evening. Valentine appoint ments and decorations were used throughout the home. Bingo and fiddlesticks were played during the evening. Mrs. Ralph Fletcher won the prize for the fiddlesticks and Big Holcomb recieved the bingo award. Valentine favors were presented the guests. At the close of play a tempting refreshment course was served from the buffet. The guest list included thirty six. Dorcas Class Meets Tuesday The Dorcas class of the Sunday school of the First Baptist church met Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. George Adams, with twenty-one members and one vis itor present. The devotionals were in charge of Mrs. Sid Hudspeth and Mrs. Fred Eidson, class president, pre sided over the business meeting. Names were drawn for Pollyanna sisters during the month. Games and contests were en joyed during a social hour. Prizes were awarded Mrs. Thurmond Douglass and Mrs. Silas Nichols in the games. Refreshments were served buf fet style during the evening. Edith Adair Circle Meets With Miss Hazel Byrd The Edith Adair circle of the Woman's Missionary Society of the First Baptist church met Tuesday evening at the home of Miss Hazel Byrd on 'Elk Spur street, with ten members present. M'«s Lucy Gray, circle chair man. presided over the meeting. The program and devotionals were in charge of Mrs. Jack Ter rell. Assisting in the program, which was a study of home mis "** sions, was Misses Louie Transou, Hazel Byrd, Dorothy Hampton, Emma Cooke and Willie Guyer. A delicious refreshment course was (served during the social hour. Legion Auxiliary Meets Monday Evening The Woman's Auxiliary of the George Gray Post of the Ameri can Legion met Monday evening at the home of Mrs. Marion Allen on Church Street, with Mrs. L. E. Aldridge associate hostess, with eighteen members present. Mrs. Beatrice Myers Phillips,' vice-president, presided in the ab- . sence of the president, Mrs. George Roy all. Routine reports featured the business session. H The program was in charge of Mrs. Joe Bivlns who used as her subject "Americanism". Mrs, Ed wort ii Harris read excerpts from. an article "World and Women", from a current magazine and two' contributions from the pen of Dorothy Thompson were read by Mrs. Bivins and Mrs. Ruth Byrd Crater. | During a delightful social hour the hostess served a tempting salad course which emphasized the Valentine motif. |' Fathers' Night To Be Observed By Parent-Teachers The annual Father's Night will be observed by the Parent-Teach er Association at the elementary school building Monday evening, February 21. An interesting pro gram has been planned for the evening and in addition to the en tertainement cakes will be raffled off. All members of the organization and patrons of the school are most cordially invited to attend the meeting. Wedding: of Miss Shore and Mr. v Reece is Announced Of widespread interest to friends in this section is the follow ing announcement: "Mr. and Mrs. J. Wade Shore of Boonville an nounce the marriage of their daughter, Elizabeth, to Roy W. Reece of Boonville, on July 18, 1937, at Chester, South Carolina." Mrs. Reece is a graduate of the Woman's College of the Univer sity of North Carolina, Greens boro, and is a member of the fac ulty of the Mineral Springs school. Mr. Reece is the son of Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Reece. He is assistant cashier of the Commercial and Savings Bank, Boonville. Mrs. Hurd Honors Daughter on Third Birthday Anniversary Mrs. Benford Hurd entertained at an enjoyable party at her home on Bridge Street Thursday after noon, to honor her little daugh ter, Janice Gray, on her third birthday anniversary. Fifteen friends of the honoree were invit ed to share the afternoon with her and each presented her with a lovely gift. Tempting refreshments were served during the afternoon. The Valentine motif was accentuated in the appointments. Mrs. Hurd was assisted in en tertaining by her sister, Miss Anna Alderman of Galax, Va., Mrs. George Chatham, Jr., and Mrs. Pete Calloway. Mrs. Gwyn is Hostess to Bridge Club Thursday Mrs. Paul Gwyn entertained members of the Two-Four Bridge Club at her home on Gwyn Ave nue Thursday with a full mem bership attendance. Early spring flowers were used In the decora tions of the home and as center pieces for the two small tables, where luncheon was served upon the arrival of the guests at one o'clock. During the afternoon bridge was enjoyed. The club award for high score went to Mrs. J. R. Poindexter. Those making up the tables were: Mrs. J. R. Poindexter, Mrs. E. S. Spainhour, Mrs. Ruohs Pyron, Miss Maude Greenwood, Mrs. E. C. Grier, Mrs. A. O. Bryan, Mrs. Chas. L. Haywood, Jr., and Mrs. Gwyn. Mrs. Allen is Hoftess to Study Club Wednesday Afternoon Mrs. Marion Allen entertained members of her study club at the regular monthly meeting at her home on Church Street Wednes day afternoon. The home was artistically arranged with Valen tine symbols and bowls of sweet peas. Fortnightly Club Meets With Mr. and Mrs. Allen Mr. and Mrs. Marion Allen en tertained members of the Fort nightly Bridge Club at an enjoy able bridge-dinner at their home on Church Street Saturday even ing. Following the dinner, which was served at seven o'clock, bridge was played at three tables. Valen tine symbols were used in the ap pointments of the tables and in the decorations of the home. Scoring honors went to Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Brewer at the close of a series of interesting progres sions. Members playing were: Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Brewer, Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Somers, Dr. and Mrs. R. B. Harrell, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Poin dexter and Mr. and Mrs. Allen. Additional guests were Mrs. E. C. Grier and fltiss Betty Allen. Mesdames Weaver and Scroggs Honor West Yadkin Seniors Mesdames Velna Weaver and Manle Scroggs entertained at the home of Mrs. Weaver Monday ev ening at an enjoyable Valentine party to honor members of the Senior Class of West Yadkin high school. Several games and contests were enjoyed. Prizes were choc olate hearts. Red candles and Valentine symbols were used In the decorations of the home and in the appointments of the temp ting refreshments served during tire evening. Each guest was pre sented a favor. The guests were entertained during the evening by a group of popular songs by Mrs. Weaver and her daughter, Miss Gerry Weaver. Those invited in addition to the seniors were members of the high school their wives and husbands, and Dr. and Mrs. Bell, Misses Maude and Mary Melton and Mr. Scroggs, the latter from near Winston-Salem. About fifty guests enjoyed the hospitality of the hostesses. Mrs. Hodel Is Hostess At Luncheon Tuesday One of the loveliest parties of thp week was the bridge-luncheon given Tuesday by Mrs. E. M. Ho del at her home on Gwyn Avenue. The home was artistically ar ranged with early spring flowers. The Valentine motif was accen tuated in the appointments of the luncheon and the tables which were placed for bridge. A three course luncheon was served. During the afternoon bridge was played at three tables. The high score award went to Mrs. James Booher and the runner-up prize to Mrs. Hugh Parks.
