Graham Newman returned Sun day from a stay of several months in Texas and Wyoming. Mr. and Mrs. Rouhs Pyron spent Sunday and Monday in Charlotte and Cheraw, S. C. Miss Rachael Burch of Greens boro Was the all day guest of her mother, Mrs. Ua D. Burch at Rusk, N. C., Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Rash spent the week-end in Lenoir, the guests of Mrs. Rash's father, Dick Har bin. Plan now to attend the Fash ion Show Friday evening and help the Elementary school li brary. Mrs. Beatrice Myers Phillips and son, Thomas, spent Sunday in Marion, Va., the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Clay Church. Irwin Wade, a student at Duke University, Durham, arrived nesday to spend the spring holi days with Mrs. Wade. Miss Frances Evans is spending this week in Bryson City, the guest of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Biv ins, the latter her sister. Mr. and Mrs. L. I. Wade spent Wednesday and Thursday of last week in Lincolnton, the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Cansler. Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Jones and children, Margaret and W. E., Jr., of North Wilkesboro, spent Sun day here the guests of friends. Moir Hall, a student at David son College, spent the spring holi days here with his mother, Mrs. J. L. Hall on West Main street. Mrs. Errol Hayes and son, Errol, Jr.. spent Friday in Mount Pleas ant, the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Hoy Moose, the latter her sister. Miss Edwina Lawrence spent the week-end in Greensboro, the guest of Miss Beryl Graham, a student at the Greensboro College for Wo men. Mrs. R. E. Armfield of States ville was the guest last week of her daughter, Mrs. R. M. Chat ham, at her home on East Main street. Miss Dicie Myers of Hampton ville spent the week-end here the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Marcus My ers, at their home on West Main street. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Young, Mr. and Mrs. James Burcham, Miss Claudia Austin and Fred Wilbert spent the week-end in Charles ton, S. C. Mr. and Mrs. Alex Chatham spent Sunday in Winston-Salem, the guests of Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Motsinger, the latter a sister of Mr. Chatham. W. S. Reich left Friday for Greensboro, where he will spend ten days with his daughter and son, Mrs. R. B. Boren, Jr., and Paul C. Reich. Miss Eleanor Hayes spent the week-end in Greensboro, the guest of Miss Ellen Hayes, a stu dent at the Woman's College of the university of North Carolina. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Royall, Mr. and Mrs. Jones Holcomb and Miss Margaret Holcomb spent the week end in Charleston, S. C., and vis ited Magnolia and Cypress Gar dens. Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Hopkins of Calloway, Va., were the week-end guests of Mr .and Mrs. Paul Gwyn at their home on Gwyn Avenue. Mrs. Hopkins is a sister of Mrs. Gwyn. Misses Annie Louise Smith and Thelma Nance of the staff of nurses at Hugh Chatham Me morial Hospital left Monday for Hartford, Conn., where they will take a years' post-graduate work at Neuro-Psychopathic hospital. Rev. and Mrs. L. B. Abernethy at their home on Hospital Road. Private T. W. Burch of the U. S. Marines Corps, stationed at Quantico, Va., spent a few days this week with his mother, Mrs. Ila D. Burch at Rusk. Private Burch has Just returned from a visit of two months to the Virgin Islands, Ponce, Puerto Rico and other sea ports. Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Hodel mov ed Tuesday from the Gough house on Gwyn Avenue to the house re cently completed on West Main street by Gwyn Franklin. Mr. and Mrs. J. Mark McAdams will move the latter part of the week to the house vacated by Mr. and Mrs. Hodel. Miss Rosamond Neaves, Miss Mary Sale, Miss Edna Billings, Joe Gwyn Bivins and Dick Graham, members of the high school Beta Club, accompanied by Miss Re i becca Bohannon of the school fac -1 ulty, spent the week-end in Ral eigh, where they attended the state convention of Beta clubs. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Terrell spent the week-end in Raleigh, where they attended the piano recital of Miss Dorothy Lowdermilk, a stud ent at Meredith College. Miss Lowdermilk was the roomate of Mrs. Terrell while she was a stud ent at Meredith, and Mrs. Terrell acted as chief usher for the recital. Dr. and Mrs. J. G. Abernethy attended a tea Saturday. after noon at the Woman's College of the University of North Carolina, Greensboro, given for honor stu dents at the college. Their daugh ter, Miss Margaret Abernethy was one of this group. Parents of the honor students were special guests at the tea. L. F. Walker and son, Frank, of this city, and Mr. Walkers' sis ter, Mrs. Percy Chambers of Den neysville, returned Monday from Greensboro, where they were call ed Sunday on account of the ser ious illness of their sister, Mrs. Marshall Anderson. According to latest reports, Mrs. Anderson is much improved. W. W. Whitaker returned Fri day from Charlotte, where he un derwent an operation at the Char lotte Eye, Ear and Throat hospit al. He is able to attend to his duties at his store, his many friends will be glad to know. He will return to Charlotte at inter vals for treatment and another operation later. Mrs, S. P. Bryan of High Point was the guest the latter part of the week of her mother, Mrs. J. S. Worth. Mesdames Worth and Bryan, accompanied by Mrs. John Grisard and son, Dr. John. T. Grisard, spent Sun day in Mount Airy, the guests of Dr. and Mrs. P. W. Greene, the latter a daughter of Mrs. Worth. Miss Sarah click, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. E. G. Click of this city, and a member of the Senior Class at the Woman's College of the University of North Carolina, Greensboro, was one of the 14 members of the class taken into the Phi Beta Kappa chapter of the college at a ceremony in Ay cock Auditorium Tuesday. Formal initiation will be at a special ser vice on April 19. Miss Click has done outstanding work during her college career, particularly in dramatics. Alexander Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. G.
