Thursday, April 14, 1938 News of Jonesville Mrs. Gurney Wagoner, Editor Phone 48-W The P.-T. A. will meet Thurs day evening, April 14, at 7:30. An amateur program will be given by the children of the lower grades. All parents are urged to come and enjoy the evening. Mrs. Frank Roberson entered Hugh Chatham Memormial hos pital last week for treatment and probably will undergo an opera tion in a few days. Misses Dixie Brown, Lorraine and Virginia Lineberry and Mag dalene Martin accompanied Leon Martin to Greensboro to WBIG broadcasting station on Monday evening. Mr. Martin sang, accom panied at the piano by Miss Vir ginia Lineberry, over that station at 9 o'clock. They will broadcast there again next Monday evening at the same time. The music pupils of Mrs. R. G. Boles gave a recital at the lo cal school auditorium on Wednes day evening, April 13. Mr. J. H. Steelman spent the week-end with * his parents, Mr. and Mrs. N. S. Steelman, of Courtney. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Paris, of Yad kin community, attended church services at the Baptist church and visited a short while here last Sunday. Misses Elsie Plnnix and Connie Hemrlo, of Elkin, visited Mrs. Ruth Gough on Tuesday after noon. : The Rev. and Mrs. P. L. Smith spent Monday in Winston-Salem. There will be services at the Arlington Baptist church at 11 o'clock a.m and 7 o'clock p.m, next Sunday, by the pastor, the Rev. Grady Burgess. Mrs. Lee Shutts, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Roberson, Mr. and Mrs. Gib Allen and Mr. and Mrs. Luther Roberson, of Winston-Salem, vis ited Mr. Tommy Rose last Sun day. Mr. Rose Is very ill this week, his friends will regret to learn. Miss Beulah Smith returned home Saturday from Roaring River, after spending last week with her sister, Mrs. Pettie Wel born. Mrs. J. W. Arnold is spending this week with her father, Mr. Mark Hlnshaw, of Branon com munity, who is very ill this week. Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Sale and daughter, Pamelia, of Lexington, spent the week-end here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Boles. Mr. Dallas Ingram entered Da vis hospital last Sunday for treat ment and probably an operation. His friends wish him a speedy re covery. Mrs. Julia Wagoner. Mrs. Min nie Wilklns, Mrs. Glenn Bailey and Miss Ruth Brown and Mrs. Clyde Mcßride, of Elkin, spent Saturday in Winston-Salem shop ping. Steelman left Sat urday for Washington to spend a week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Absher. The friends of Mr. Bill Dowell will regret to learn that he is ill this week at his home in Arling ton. Mr. and Mrs. C. C- Shore and family, Mr. and Mrs. J E. John son and daughter, Edith, attend ed the birthday dinner of Mr. Shore's mother, Mrs.Nancy Shore, held at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harrison Tucker, near Mar ler, last Sunday. Mrs. Shore ob served her 83rd anniversary. A large number of friends and rel atives were there to enjoy the day and the bountiful dinner with her. Mrs. John Weaver, who has been at the bedside of her' hus band for several weeks at Davis hospital, spent a short while here on Tuesday with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Ray and her son, Jack Ray Weaver. Mrs. Ida Smith was able to re turn to her home last Saturday, after taking treatment at Hugh Chatham Memorial hospital for two weeks. Mr. ami Mrs. Burl Crabb and and Mrs. Crabb's sister, Mrs. Wil liams, of Latah, Wash., visited his aunt, Mrs. Bell Doss, over the week-end. On Tuesday they mo tored to Statesville and visited the latter's brother, John Lowe. Misses Madelyn Thompson and Mary Elizabeth Ingram spent from Friday till Monday the guests of Miss Anne Castevens, of Cycle, R. F. D. Miss Casteven accom panied them home and was the guest of Miss Thompson on Mon day. Mrs. Nancy Shore and Mrs. Kate Pinnix, of the Marler com munity, are visiting the former's son, Mr. C. C. Shore, and other relatives here this week. Mrs. Marvin Mayberry, Mrs. Hugh Holcomb, Mrs. Fletcher Mc- Bride, J. C. Chappell and G. S. Wagoner spent Wednesday In Thomasville. The above are mem bers of the Kingdom Builders Bi ble class of the Jonesville Baptist Sunday school and they took a number of gifts from the class to children at Mills Home. Mrs. G. S. Wagoner spent Wednesday in Winston-Salem, the guest of Mr. and Mrs. D. D. Hud speth, the former her brother. Alda Grayson Y. W. A. Met With Miss Hasel Brandon. The Alda Grayson Y. W. A. of the Baptist W. M. U. met at the home of Miss Hazel Brandon on Monday evening for their April meeting. The topic was on Africa, and Misses Madelyn Thompson, Mary Elizabeth Ingram, Alda Sue Hem eric, Hazel Brandon and their THE ELKIN TRIBUNE, ELKIN, NORTH CAROLINA leader, Bertha Adams, gave a very interesting discussion on the lesson. After a brief business period a nice social hour was enjoyed and refreshments were served by the hostess. The Methodist W. M. U. Met on Tuesday Evening • The Woman's Missionary union of the Methodist church met at the home of Mrs. Dewey Mayber ry, with Mrs. Rufus Wagoner as joint hostess. The program was opened by a piano solo by Mrs. R. G. Boles. The topic. "Missionary Society in the Rural Community." was led by Miss Rachel Dunnagan. Talk on "Deacons and Deaconesses in the Field." by Miss Rosalee Min ish. General discussion, "Dea cons of Deaconesses in the U. 5.," led by the program leader, Miss Dunnagan. One new member was added to the circle, Mrs. Cruthchfield. Following the business discus sion, delightful refreshments were served by the hostesses. ZEPHYR We regret to learn that Mr. Roy B. C. home In Concord last Wednesday, due to the illness of his father, Mr. John R. Blackwelder. Mrs. Lena Dockery, of Elkin, spent last week here visiting friends and relatives. , The Rev. Walter Calloway filled his regular appointment at the Baptist church last Sunday morning at 11 o'clock. Several from this community attended two operettas, "Hansel and Qretel," and "Molly Be Jolly," at Mountain Park last Saturday night. The operettas proved to be very entertaining to those pres ent. Sunday school is being attended very well at both the Methodist and Baptist churches. The pub lic has a cordial invitation to at tend Sunday school. Mr. Charles Dockery, of Elkin, spent Saturday here visiting rel atives. The many friends of Miss Al lie Sue Ellis will regret to learn that she has been sick for the past week. We hope for her a speedy recovery. Mr. Billy Parks, of this commu nity, spent the week-end in Elkin, the guest of Charles Dockery. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Lawrence, of High Point, spent the week-end here, the guest of Mrs. Lawrence's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Houston Laster. Next Sunday morning at 6 o'clock there will be a sunrise service at the Methodist church. The service will be in charge of the pastor, the Rev. C. W. Russell. The public has a cordial invita tion to attend. Mrs. C. O.
