Cynthia Allen Is Hostess Friday Evening Little Miss Cynthia Allen was hostess at an enjoyable Hal lowe'en party Friday evening at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marion Allen, on Church street. Fourteen children, both girls and boys, enjoyed the de lightful event. At the close of a number of games and contests supper was served. Favors and decorations were suggestive of the season. 0 Miss Transou Is Hostess To Honor Class and Visitors Miss Louise Transou enter tained for members of her kin dergarten class at a Hallowe'en party Friday afternoon at her home on West Main street. Each child invited- a guest for the piarty. A number of games were enjoyed and each child was given a souvenir. The costume prize went to Ann Harris. Cookies, decorated with Hal lowe'en faces, were served the guests. They were given favors of baskets of candy. F. H. C. Class Meets Thursday The F. H. C. class of the Pleas ant Hill Baptist church met Thursday evening at the home of Miss Anna Lee Cothren on Elk Spur street. She was assisted by Miss Gladys Transou. The class president, Miss Mo zell Darnell, presided over the meeting. A discussion on "Our Social Standard" was made by the teacher. Miss Vermeil Money. At the close of the business session very enjoyable refresh ments were served to the twenty members present. Virginia Graham and Anne Ipock Are Hostesses Thursday Virginia Graham and Anne Ipock entertained fifteen girls at a Hallowe'en party Thursday ev ening at the home of Miss Gra ham, on Bridge street. Witches and goblins were used in the dec orations of the home. In the games Maxine Aldridge and Mary Ellen Harrell tied for the prize. Sandwiches, chess pies and hot chocolate were served the guests and they were given favors of Hallowe'en baskets filled with candy. Hallowe'en Costume Dance Is Given Friday Evening Mr. and Mrs. Alex Biggs and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Barker, Jr., entertained at an enjoyable Hal lowe'en dance Friday evening at the gymnasium. The room was decorated with autumn leaves, evergreens and Hallowe'en sug-. gestions. The guests were in costume. Prizes for the most unusual costumes went to Mrs. Ted Brown and Fred Wilbert. During intermission cider, salted nuts and wafers were served buffet style from a table decorated in keeping with the season. Approximately forty couples en joyed the delightful event. Mrs. H. C. Salmons Is Hostess at Luncheon Wednesday Mrs. H. C. Salmons entertain ed at an informal luncheon Wed nesday at her home on Church street to honor her mother-in law. Mrs. Fannie Salmons, on her birthdaiy anniversary. Autumn flowers and Hallowe'en symbols were used to decorate the lunch eon table, where covers were placed for ten. Those enjoying Mrs. Salmons' hospitality were: Mesdames Fan nie Salmons, T. W. Church, W. W. Whitaker, George Royall, Glenn Lewis, J. C. Winkler, C. F. Lineberry, Hugh Royall, I. C. Yates and Marion Allen. Mrs. Salmons drew the prize among the guests. Dale Aldridge Is Host at Party Saturday Afternoon Dale Aldridge entertained a group of smal. boys at a Hal lowe'en party Saturday afternoon at his home on Market street. Games suggestive of the season were enjoyed, with Billy Price winning the prize. Favors of masks and horns were given the guests and they were served sandwiches, candies and cakes. The guest list included: Billy Price, John Edward Beeson, Tom my Smith, Bobby and Tommy James, Charles Brewer, Jr., Jerry Davis, Joe Salmons. John Evans, H, and Gene Nicks. Methc'iist Circle Meetings and Week of Prayer The circles of the Woman's Missionary Society of the Meth odist church will meet Monday THE ELKINTRIBUNE afternoon at 3:30 in the follow ing homes: Circle number one with Mrs. Joe Bivins on Gwyn Avenue; number two with Mrs. H. P. Gra ham on Gwyn Avenue, and number three with, Mrs. George Royall on Church street, with Mrs. James Booher associate hostess. Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 a special service in observation of week of prayer will be held at the church. All members are cordially in vited td attend. Miss Collins Is Hostess Friday Evening Miss Marie Collins entertained at a delightful Hallowe'en party Friday evening at her home in North Elkin. The entire lower floor of the home was decorated with autumn leaves and flowers. The Hallowe'en colors of orange and black predominated in the decorations. Various games and contests were arranged for the amuse ment of the guests. The cos tume prize went to Miss Mable Davis for the most attractive dress and Y. B. Johnson, Jr., was .winner of the award for the most ridiculous costume. Jack De- Borde won the contest prize. About fifty young people en joyed the hospitality of the host ess. Baptist Circles To Meet The circles of the Woman's Missionary Society of the First Baptist church will meet Monday in the following homes: The Emma Leechman circle will meet Monday afternoon at 3:30 at the home of Mrs. E. C. James on West Main street; the Neal Young circle will meet with Mrs. George Chatham, Sr., on Bridge street at 3:30. Mrs. C. I. Boger will be hostess to the Naomi Shell circle Monday evening at 7:30 at her home on West Main street and Mrs. Beat rice Myers Phillips will entertain the Pearl Johnson Circle at the home of Mrs. C. N. Myers on West Main street, at 7:30 Mon day evening. Tuesday evening at 7:30 the Edith Adair circle will entertain in honir of the Y. W. A. Scouts Honor Dr. and Mrs. Jenkins at Open House Honoring Dr. and Mrs. W. A. Jenkins, who will leave soon to make their home in Marion, the Girl Scouts entertained at "open house" at the Girl Scout room in the Greenwood building on Sat urday evening from 8 until 10 o'clock. Assisting in entertaining and receiving the guests were: Scouts Nan Johnson, Louise Laffoon, Jo and Jerry Barker, Eleanor Hayes, Glenda Norman, Kay Lee Walk er, Virginia Graham, Dorothy Harrell, Lena Sale, Grace Laf foon, Dorothy Jean Salmons and Mary Vance McAdams. The guests were presented to the receiving line, which was composed of Mrs. J. Mark.Mc- Adams, Scout captain; Mrs. Seth M. Beale, Scout lieutenant; and Dr. and Mrs. Jenkins. Punch and wafers were served during the evening. Marriage of Miss Wagoner and Mr. Poplin Announced Announcement is itiade today of the marriage of Miss Alta Elaine Wagoner of Boonville, to James Hazel Poplin of Elkin. on stinday afternoon at 3 o'clock, at the Baptist church in Inde pendence, Virginia, with the pas tor of the Friends church offi ciating. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter H. Wagon er of Boonville, and the bride groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert O. Poplin of this city. Both are members of prominent families. They were accompanied to Virginia by Miss Ollie Mae Mos teller and William Carter, who were the only witnesses to the ceremony. The bridegroom is employed at Chatham Manufacturing com pany here. Formal announcements of the wedding have been issued. Mrs. Gwyn Is Hostess to Bridge Club Thursday Mrs. Paul Gwyn delightfully entertained members of her bridge club .and a few additional friends at a bridge-luncheon at her home on Gwyn avenue Thursday. The guests were in vited for ten o'clock. In the games the award for high score went to Mrs. A. B. Somers. Luncheon was served at one o'clock. The tables were center ed with bouquets of brilliantly colored flowers. Autumn flowers and foliage were used elsewhere in the home. Miss Hall anld Mrs. Carter Are Hostesses At Two Parties Miss Janie Hall and Mrs. Roger Carter were hostesses at two lovely parties last week at the home of Miss Hall on West Main street. Thursday they entertained at a 'bridge luncheon. Covers were placed for twenty guests. Lunch eon was served buffet style. Mrs. Claude Farrell, Mrs. Bernard Hall and Mrs. Carter presided in the dining room. During the afternoon bridge was enjoyed. Scoring honors went to Mrs. Clyde Eller at the conclusion of the play. Mrs. Gavin Dortch, a bride of the summer, was given a lovely gift. Friday Miss Hall and Mrs. Car ter entertained again at a buffet luncheon to honor Miss Thor burn Lillard, bride-elect of mid- November. Mrs. Bernard Hall, Mrs. Clyde Hall and Mrs. Carter presided in the dining room. Covers were placed for twenty four at small tables in the living room and music room. Bridal place cards marked the places of the guests. Miss Lillard was given crystal in her wedding pattern as guest of honor. Mrs. Sam Neaves, Mrs. William Freeman and Mrs. Rich ard G. Chatham, all brides of last summer, were given lovely gifts. Mrs. Harry Barker, Jr., drew the prize among the lunch eon guests. White crysanthemums were used throughout the home and as a centerpiece for the luncheon table at each of the enjoyable affairs. AUSTIN B. C. Speaks is in Hugh Chat ham Memorial Hospital at Elkin, suffering with pneumonia, we re gret to note. Miss Ima Mae Hinson of Elk in, spent the week-end here with Misses Faye and Marie McCann. Mr. and Mrs. Guy Cox and family spent the week-end in Virginia, visiting relatives. An enjoyable Hallowe'en carni val was held Saturday evening at Austin school, the proceeds of the entertainment going for the benefit of the school. The Hawkins family reunion will be held at the home of L. M. Hawkins here next Sunday. All relatives and friends of the fam ily are invited to attend and bring a basket dinner. Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Lyon spent Sunday at Lomax, the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Grant Lyon. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Thomp son and family have moved from this community to Canada.
