here attended the funeral of Paul
Davis at East Bend Sunday.
Young Davis was a student at
Lees-Mcßae College at the time
of his death in South Carolina as
the result of a truck-train colli
sion.
Mrs. Salina Spear, who will be
91 years old the last day of Feb
ruary, seems to be holding her
own in her recent illness. She
has been confined to her bed now
for several weeks.
Mrs. Harrison Craver has re
turned to her home from Baptist
hospital where she underwent
treatment for sinus trouble.
Friends and neighbors are happy
that Mrs. Craver has returned
home.
Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Joynes, of
Sparta, visited Mr. and Mrs. R.
M. Fletcher recently.
Miss Carmen Frye, who is a
teacher of music in Cherryville
high school, visited her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Frye, Sunday.
Mrs. C. A. Martin and her two
sons, Orville and Clyde, from
Amelia county, Va„ visited her
son, Carl Martin, a few days re

Boonville Y. W. A. Discusses
Prayer
The Boonville Y.W.A. met with
Mrs. Thad M. Reece Monday
night.
The theme of the night's dis
cussion centered around prayer,
and the part that prayer plays in
the life of every Christian. Sev
eral fine discussions were held on
the meaning of prayer, and its
influence upon the lives of mis-

sionaries and other Christian
workers. The central topic was
"Such Intercession As Lovers
Make."
The program opened with a
song, "Take Time to Be Holy," by
the group. Devotional taken from
Matthew 21:22; John 15:7; James
1:5; and Revelation 3:20, was
rendered by Miss Louise Abrams.
The topic, "What Is Prayer?" was
discussed by Dorothy Coram.
Other topics discussed were "Such
Intercession As Lovers Make,"
Mrs. Allan Jessup; "A World Life
Through Prayer," Marie Hicks;
"Prayer Meets Needs for More
Missionaries," Ruby Winkler;
"The Prayer Calendar." Kath
erine Jones; and "An Evening
Prayer," a poem by Miss Dorothy
Coram.
After the program the hostess
served a delicious refreshment
course consisting of strawberry
shortcake, whipped cream, red
candy hearts, and lemonade. The
refreshments carried out the Val
entine idea. The individual serv
ings of cake were cut in heart
shape and displayed the red
candy decorations.
The group had as its special
guests Mrs. J. H. Reece and Rev.
J. P. Davis, pastor of the local
Baptist church.

In the Moody Revivals, Boston,
a shop girl was converted. Soon
afterwards a purchaser at the
store where she worked inquired,
"Is this real English lace?" "It
was, ma'am, before the Moody
meetings—now it's imitation."
COOL SPRINGS
The number in Sunday school
stepped back to 112 Sunday
morning. However, there was a
good increase for the preaching
hour. Rev. I. W. Vestal, our pas
tor, spoke well indeed, with a
heart filled with gratitude to God
for the returning health of his
wife and himself. His theme was
"The Mercies of God."
