Click The Mason Lillard Bible class of the Sunday school of the Methodist church met at the home of Mrs. EL G. Click on Cir cle Court Monday evening, with ten members present. Miss Blanche Dixon, class president, presided over the meet ing and dlrcted an interesting program on the life of George Washington. Current events of interest were a feature of the meeting. Refreshments were served by the hostess during a pleasant so cial hour. Miss Bostic Is Hostess At Class Meeting Friday Miss. Helen Bostic entertained members of the Queen Esther class of the Sunday school of the First Baptist church at the reg ular business-social meeting at her home Friday evening. Miss Camilla Burcham, presi dent, presided over the business session which featured routine re ports. During a pleasant social hour games were enjoyed. Miss Gloria Morrison won an attractive prize in the games. Refreshments were served dur ing the evening to the seven members present. ■ i Beaiah Yates Hostess at Dinner Party Friday Miss Beulah Yates entertained at an enjoyable dinner party at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. I. C. Yates, on Church street Friday evening from 6 until 9 o'clock, having as guests sixteen of her school mates. A patriotic motif of red, white and blue was effected in the ap pointments of the dinner table. Pussywillow and forsythia were used- throughout the reception rooms. Miss Dorothy Mae Walker and the consolation award went to Miss Betty Chatham. Miss Emmallne Sloop Is Honored On Birthday Anniversary Honoring Miss Emmallne Sloop on her fifteenth birthday anni versary, Misses Estelle Sloop and Grace Lawrence entertained at a delightful partv Saturday evening at the home of the former. A color scheme of red. white and blue was carried out in the ap pointments of the party. Games and contests were enjoyed throughout the evening. A pretty scene was arranged in the dining room. Miniature cherry trees and cut flowers sur rounded the handsomely decor ated birthday cake. Cake, sand wiches and hot chocolate were served. Twenty guests enjoyed the hospitality of the hostesses. Misses Tolbert Entertain Class At Meeting Friday Misses Louise and Mable Tul bert were hostesses to the Sun-! shine Philathea Class of the Sun day school of the Elkin Valley Baptist church at the home of the former Friday evening, with 14 members present. Mrs. Orville Lawrence conduct ed the devotionals. The program, on '•Character" was in charge of Misses Prances Martin and Alice McCoin, assisted by Misses Marie Collins, Lestine Lawrence, Helen Hayes and Ruby McCoin. Miss Louise Tulbert, class pres ident, presided over the business session. Refreshments were served dur ing a pleasant social hour. Methodist Mission Circles in Group Meeting Monday The monthly group meeting of the circles of the Woman's Mis sionary Society of the Methodist church met at the church Mon day afternoon at 3:30 with a splendid attendance. Mrs. J. H. Hall, president, pre sided over the business session and conducted the devotionals. The program was presented by circle number two, under the di rection of the chairman, Mrs. R. C. Freeman, who used as her sub ject . "Widening the Horizons of the Home." Mrs. Freeman was assisted by Mrs. E. F. McNeer and Mrs. James Booher. A vocal solo. "Have Thine Own Way. Lord," by iSra, JSL C. Click, with sftrs. H. P. Graham accompanist, added to the enjoyment of the program. Miss Myers Is Hostess at Party for Club Friday Having as guests members of the Girls Reserve Club of the Jonesville high school and sev eral additional friends, Miss Blanche Myers was hostess at an enjoyable party at her home near Jonesville Friday evening. Chinese checkers and other games furnished entertainment for the guests. At the close of the play Herbert May berry was awarded the prize. D. Smith, pastor of the Baptist church, officiating, using the ring ceremony. FOr her wedding the bride wore a spring suit of teal blue with accessories of wine She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B. D. Key, of Siloam, and is a grad uate of Copeland high school. The bridegroom is the son of Mrs. Clara Wellborn and the late J. R. Wellborn, of State Road. He attended Elkin high school and is a prosperous young farm er. Mr. and Mrs. Wellborn are making their home at State Road. Parent-Teacher Meeting To Be Held Tuesday Afternoon The monthly meeting of the Parent-Teacher Association will be held Tuesday afternoon, Feb ruary 28, at 3:30 in the element ary school auditorium. The pro gram will consist of brief declam ations by high school students, members of the graduating class, who will speak on W.C.T.U. work. "The winner at this meeting will go to Mount Airy at a later date to compete in a county-wide con test among high school students for a medal to be awarded by the W. C. T. U. Snapdragons and acacia were used as a centerpiece for the lovely tabic. The place of Mrs. Chatham was marked with a small paper umbrella fill ed with sweet peas. Following the dinner bridge and rummy were enjoyed. Baptist Circles In Monthly Session Monday Afternoon The monthly group meeting of the circles of the W. M. U. of the First Baptist church met at the church Monday afternoon with a good attendance. I The program for the month was in charge of the Emma Leechman circle. Mrs. I. S. Gambill conducted the devotion als and the program was pre sented by Mrs. Eph Whisenhunt, who used as her subject, "The Great Commission and Aim of the W. M. U." The closing num ber on the program was a solo "Give Me Thine Heart,", by Mrs. F. M. Norman. Mrs. C. N. Myers, general pres ident, presided over the business session. Routine reports were heard. Mrs. Roy West was elect ed a delegate to the W. M. U. State Convention to be held in High Point early in March. The closing prayer was by Mrs. P. M. Norman. Nancy Carroll Gaanbiil Is Feted on Fifth Birthday Mrs. I. S. Gambill entertained at a delightful party at her home north of El kin Saturday after noon honoring her little daugh ter, Nancy Carroll, on her fifth birthday anniversary. Upon the, arrival of the little guests they were presented paper hats, which added a festive note to the scene. Games and contests were enjoyed with the prize going to Frances Ann Russell. Mrs. Bwher Honors Mrs. Sagar at Party Wednesday A charming courtesy to Mrs. John Sagar, a bride of last fall, was the bridge-luncheon given Wednesday by Mrs. James Booher at her home on Gwyn avenue. Bowls of gladioli and potted hya cinths were used in the reception room. The appointments of the table were in red, white and blue, suggestive of Washington's birth day. Six tables were placed for bridge and four additional guests were invited for luncheon. Among the luncheon guests Mrs. Harry Barker, Jr., cut high for the prize. In the bridge games the high score award went to Mrs. Richard G. Chatham and the runner-up prize went to Mrs. E. C. Grier. Mrs. Sagar was presented a lovely gift as guest of honor and Mi's. Jack Carter, also a recent bride, was given a remembrance. Mrs. Booher was assisted In eritertaining by Mrs. Hugh H. Chatham. Mrs. McDaniel Is Hostess at Two Parties Tuesday Mrs. E. W. McDaniel entertain ed at two charming parties Tues day at her home on Bridge street. At one o'clock she entertained at a luncheon. Covers were placed for twelve at a beautifully ap pointed table, which was center ed with a cherry tree, suggestive of Washington's birthday. Place cards were attached to nut cups, which repeated the chosen col ors of red, white and blue. Japon ica, jonquils and potted plants were used throughout the recep tion rooms. Among the guests Mrs. W. W Whltsker drew thj* Mis. Jack Carter, a recent bride, was presented a gift of linen. Guests were: Meed am es Jack Carter, George Royall.i D. G. Smith, W. W. Whltaker, E. F. McNeer, Hiunry Barker, Jr.. Errol Hayes, Franklin Folger, Alex Biggs, Lee Phillips, Lathan Mills and Miss Emmallne Neaves. Mrs. McDaniel entertained again in the evening at a bridge dinner. Dinner was served upon the arrival of the guests. The appointments were identical with the luncheon. During the evening bridge was played at four tables. Their many friends and relatives wel come them. Mr. and Mrs. Odell Winters had as their Sunday guests her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Finney.
