REPORT IS MADE BY GRAND JURY Yadkin Body Finds jful Sani tary, Well-Kept; Schools in Good Repair 88 BILLS ACTED UPON The following report was given by the Yadkin county grand Jury to Judge Wilson WarUck during the February term of Yadkin su perior court: "We, the grand Jury for the February term. 1939, of the Su perior Court of Yadkin County, respectfully report: "That we acted on 88 bills. "Found 72 true bills. "Found 10 not true bills. "Continued 6 Mils. "Make 6 presentments. "We visited the Yadkin county jail in a body, and found that the jail is well kept, sanitary and that the prisoners were well fed: that there are 13 white male prisoners, 6 colored male prisoners and 2 colored female prisoners. We find that the septic tank on the JaU property is in a very bad condi tion and is a menace to the pub lic health and should be correct ed at once; that the road leading to the jail is in need of repair by top-soiling or surfacing, and we recommend that this road be re paired. "We visited the county home by committee and found that the same is well kept, sanitary and that the inmates are well fed and clothed; that there are 4 white ~osien inn™to* : s white men in mates; and 2 colored women in mates. We find that the keeper's home and barn are in need of repair. "We visited the following of fices in the courthouse by com mittee: Sheriff's office, Register of Deeds' office. Clerk's and County Accountant's office, and find that they are all well kept to the best of our knowledge. We find that there is much com plaint made on account of the furniture in the courtroom being moved from the courtroom over the courthouse, and we recom mend that all the courtroom fur niture remain in the courtroom due to the fact that there is a need for the furniture there on account of trials and referee hearings from time to time. "We investigated the condition of the several schools In Yadkin county and find that there are 8 white schools with an enrollment of 4678, and 9 colored schools with an enrollment of 265; that the buildings and equipment are in good state of repair. Some of the schools are badly in need of additional class rooms, the most crowded condition existing at Jonesvllle, West Yadkin, and Yadkinville white high schools. We find that there are 37 school buses in Yadkin county, all of which are in good condition and we believe that they are operated as safely and economically as possible. s, "We. the grand jury, extend our sympathy to His Honor. Wilson Warllck. in the untimely death of his brother, Mr. T. M. Warllck, of Newton, N. C.. and at this time we desire to commend His Honor for the efficient and business-like manner in which he has conduct ed the court and the spirit of fairness and Justice shown by him; that his very evident inten tion that the laws of North Caro lina be enforced was tempered with mercy, especially in the cases of youthful cases." "We. the grand jury, would like also at this time to commend Hon. Avalon E. Hall, Solicitor, for his efficient servioes in prosecut ing the docket, and his efforts to dispatch the business of the court as quickly as possible. "Respectfully submitted, this the 3rd day of March, 1939. "M. R. Davis, Foreman, grand Jury. Wendell G. Hinshaw, Secretary, grand jury." f 350,000,000 ounces of silver was bought by the U. 8.
