The Dobaon Woman's Club met
in the club house last Thursday
evening with Mrs. John W. Com
er, president, presiding.
After the preliminaries, reports
from the various committees and
departments were heard and ap
proved. The attendance prize
was wotl by Mrs. J. W. Comer.
Plans were discussed relative
to the annual May banquet, to
be held in the Woman's Club
room at an early date, closing
another year of club work.
Mrs, John G. Lewellyn, chair
man of the month's program, in
troduced Mr. E. C. Alexander,
music teacher in the Pilot Moun
tain school, and his Glee Club of
Pilot Mountain high school girls
who brought to the club a splen
did program of song and music,
which was happily received and
applauded.
Mr. Alexander sang two num
bers wtiich were thoroughly en
joyed, proving himself gifted in
song, as well as an efficient
leader.
During the social hour refresh
ments were served by the follow
ing committee: Mrs. John Lew
ellyn, Mrs. Thedford Sprinkle,
Miss Beatrice Holbrook, Mrs.
Clyde Forrest, Mrs. D. W. Hem
rainga. Miss Linda Bailey, Miss
Jennie Martin, Mrs. Maude Free
man and Mrs. S. R. Coalson.
A county-wide teachers' meet
ing, perhaps the last of the school
year, was held in the school aud
itorium Friday afternoon. Sen
ator Fred Foiger. of Mt. Airy,
was the principal speaker of the
afternoon. Mrs. E. C. Alexander,
of Pilot Mountain, sang two
numbers accompanied by Mrs.
Blake Carson, of the Dobson fac
ulty.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Berry, of
Oalax, were the week-end guests
of Dr. and Mrs. Joe Foiger.

North Elkin school faculty, spent
Saturday and Sunday with Miss

splendid sermon in the Baptist
church Sunday morning, using as
his theme. "The Atonement."
Rev. and Mrs. West were dinner
guests of Miss Eva Hancock at
the Capital Cafe Sunday.
Miss Myrtle Burgess, of Mount
Airy, spent the week-end with
Mrs. P. P. Riggs.
Mrs. John Comer entertained
the Club Council MI last Tuesday
evening at a bingo party. The
prize went to Mrs. W. L. Reece,
while Mrs. W. M. Jackson and
Miss MizHucth Mora*" tied as
runner up.
Mrs. Comer served a salad and
sweet course with coffee at the
conclusion of the game.
Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Cranford
and son, and Mr. and Mrs. W. W.
Russell, of Denton, were week
end visitors with Rev. and Mrs.
C. W. Russell at the Methodist
parsonage.
Mr. and Mrs. j. W. Crawford
and- children spent a few days
last week with Mrs. Crawford's
mother, Mrs. Brookshire, at
Charlotte.
Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Threatte
and Bettie June spent the Easter
season with Mrs. Threatte's par
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Brasingtan, at
Bennettsville, S. C.
Miss Rachel Howell spent last
week-end with her parents at
Hamlet.
Mrs. Maude Freeman is spend
ing some time with her sister.
Mrs. Metta Fblger Townsend, at
Lenoir.
Mrs. Cicero Hill, mother of
Fred Hill, Mrs. W. E. Reid and
Mrs. E. L. Taylor passed away on
the sth of April, and was burled
in the cemetery near her home
Easter Sunday. Mrs. Hill was 69
years of age. and recently visit
ed her daughter. Mrs. R. L. Rich
ardson. at Burrel, Calif. Her
mother, Mrs. Blevins, of Ashe
county, died three weeks ago at
the age of 93. Seven children
survive her.
Mrs. Guy. of Statesville. is vis
iting her daughter, Mrs. Evans,
on Kapp street.

A large crowd was present for
the B. Y. P. U. service Sunday
evening. Our programs are in
teresting and instructive and a
cordial invitation is extended to
the public to attend.
There were 130 members and
several visitors for Sunday school
Sunday morning. Several new
members were also enrolled. A
cordial welcome is extended to
anyone desiring to attend.
