Thnrsday. April 27, 1939 NEWS FROM THE [HL Missisnarj Society of the Dob so n Baptist church met Thursday evening with Mrs. R. A. Freeman. Opening song, "I Love to Tell the Story." The devotion als were conducted by Mrs. Em ma Hampton, after which "Come Women Wide Proclaim," was sung. Miss Edythe Reece, program leader, announced the subject, "The Great Commission —Latin America." Those contributing to the program were Mrs. DeWitt Sparger, Mrs. Howard Snow, Mrs. Emma Hampton, Misses Eliza beth Booker and Elizabeth Nor man. The business meeting followed. Mrs. Fowler, personal service chairman, gave a splendid report on charity for the month. Dur ing the social hour refreshments consisting of a salad course with hot tea was served by the host ess. Circle 2 of the Methodist Mis sionary society, met on last Tues day evening with Mrs. Carl Fol gfer. Mrs. Elizabeth Bolick was leader, and those assisting her on the program were Mrs. Colon Spoon, Mrs. Vincent Myrick and Mrs. Evans. These discussions were followed by the business meeting. During the social hour Mrs. Folger serv ed delicious refreshments. Miss Emma Comer and Mrs. John W. Comer attended the Wo man's Club convention in Raleigh' Monday and Tuesday of last week. The retiring state presi dent, Mrs. Howard Etheridge, of Asheville, was succeeded by Mrs. Robinson, of Wallace. Miss Kathryn Folger spent the week-end with home folks in Dobson. Rev. C. W. Russell filled his fourth Sunday appointment at the Methodist church Sunday morning. Rev. and Mrs. R. L. C. Sunday visitors in the Reece home. Mrs. Wade B. Hampton, a fre quent visitor in the home of her mother-in-1 aw, Mrs. Emma Hampton, in Dobson, is spending the month of April in Italy, vis iting the most interesting places in and around Rome. Mrs. Hampton went the winter in Berlin studying in one of the in stitutions there. On her return homcw«rd she cxpccto io tour Switzerland and France, and re turn to her home in Washington, D. C., about the last of July, after spending one year abroad. BRANON Mr. and Mrs. Alan Chamber lain and small son, Leslie, of the Bethel community, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Tom Steel man. Mr. M. H. Helton, of Jonesville, and Mr. Will Helton, of vAsheville, spent a while Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Cummings. Mr. Dick Cummings is spend ing some time this week in Elk in, the guest of friends and rel atives. Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Cummings were business visitors in Elkin Saturday. Miss Lucille Steeiman returned home Saturday after spending last week with Mr. and Mrs. Mor gan Led better, of the Bethel com munity. Misses Jettie Cummings and Lucille Steeiman spent a while Saturday night with Misses Em eline and Nelda Shore, of Jones ville. Mr. Dave Bowman and family, of Winston-Salem, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Steeiman Sunday. Prayer service was held Sunday afternoon at the home of Mr. Rodney Renegar. Miss Lillian Chamberlain, of the Bethel community, was the guest of Miss Lucille Steeiman Sunday. Positive "So you deny that a chimpan zee was your ancestor?"
