Juniors and Others Enjoy Weiner Roast The junior class of the Jones ville school and several others were entertained with a weiner roast Thursday evening, April 20, at the home of Miss Lorraine Lineberry. Several games were played dur ing the fun period and after wards each one did what is usually expected at a weiner roast 1 eat! Those enjoying the roast were: Misses Mary Thompson, Eloise Sparks, Pansy Burcham, and Messrs. Kemp Reece, Herbert Mayberry, Russell Vestal, Clay Pelts, J. H. Swaringen, and the hostess, Lorraine Lineberry. Mrs. Robert Storey Is Enter tained Mrs. Hal Stuart and Miss Ethel Gilliam gave a delightful party for Mrs. Robert Storey, of Knox ville. Tenn., 'who has been visit ing here for some time. She will leave for her home this week end. A color scheme of pink and white was carried out. Five tables were placed for br'dge, rummy and Chinese cneckers. 15,rs. Har vey Cockerham and Mrs. Kurvey Stockton won high score in rum my, Mrs. Roscoe Poplin for bridge and Miss Catherine Boles for Chinese checkers. A salad course was served to the following: Misses Catherine Boles, Catherine Brown and Em ma Eller, and Mesdames: Roscoe Poplin, Glenn Lewis, Marion Whltener, Tat Davis, Ode Travis, Rufus Wagoner, Johnny Canipe, Harvey Stockton, Bub Price, Ivry Johnson, Sam Ray, Alton Boles, Hugh Branon, Odell Church, Dick Evans. Odell Holcomb, and the hostesses, Mrs. Hal Stuart and Miss Ethel Gilliam. Man. Mayberry and Reece Entertain Messrs. Herbert Mayberry and Kemp Reece entertained the members of the junior and sen ior classes and several others at a delightful party in the dining room at Dock's Tavern Tuesday evening. A color scheme of blue and gold was carried out. Misses Beatrice Burcham and Ruth Mayberry were in charge of the games and the fun period. Car f ®r, the latter of Winston- Salem. were recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Gentry at State Road. Mr. and Mrs. Coy Medley, of Salisbury, were the Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Ashburn. They were accompanied home by Mrs. Ashburn, who will be their guest for several weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Neal /xsom and children spent the week-end near Hamptonville, the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Gumey Axsom, the former their son. The public is invited to attend the revival services at Bessie's Chapel this week. The pastor, Rev. E. G. Jordon, is being assist ed in the meeting by Rev. R. E. Adams, of Mayodan. Clyde Riddle, of Roaring River, is spending several days here the guest of Mr. and Mrs. "C. M. Coe. Miss Lottie Hemric. of Roaring River, spent the week-end here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Hemric. Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Sprinkle, of Twin Oaks, spent the week end here the guests of Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Hampton. BETHEL The Bethel Choir met last Sunday evening and expect to practice again next Wednes day evening, preparing to attend the singing convention at Union church next Sunday. Mrs. J. A. Gilley and little daughter, Frances, are visiting her daughter. Mrs. Romie Cock erham, near Mt. Airy, for two weeks. Roscoe Morrison, of this place, and Miss Blase Owens, of Elkin, surprised their friends, when they stole away Saturday, April 15th, and'got married. We ex tend our congratulations to the happy couple. Ronda school closed its com mencement program last Friday evening with the graduation ex ercises. There were two seniors from here. Misses Lucy Burchette and Kathlene Jones. Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Triplette, Mrs. David R. Gilliam and chil dren, D. R., Jr., and Carol, visit ed relatives in Winston-Salem last Sunday. Miss Florence Pardue, of the Brier Creek community, spent last week-end visiting her sister here, Miss Edith Pardue. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jack En grim. Mrs. J. B. Green visited her sister-in-law. Mrs. Julia Pardue, one day last week. Mrs. Pardue is ill at her home near Cycle. Misses Louisa and Pauline Morrison and Norma Gilliam spent a while Sunday afternoon visiting Miss Mary Nell Gray, of Cllngman. Mrs. D. S. Gilliam and little son. Bobby, accompanied Mrs. Louis Ferlazzo, of Wlnston-Sa lem, to her home last Sunday where she will be the guest of her and Mrs. J. B. Armstrong this week. She will also visit her brother and family, Mr. and Mrs. Turner Harris, and sister, Mrs. Lathern, of that city. Mr. and Mrs. Garner T. Moore and children. Albert and Eugene, and Mrs. Sarah Duncan, of Mt. Airy, were guests last Sunday at the home of Rev. and Mrs. A. Gilley. Laster visit ed Mr. Clifton Laster, of Ronda, Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Hayes had as their guests Sunday afternoon Mr. and Mrs. Stokes Harkey and children, Mary Jane and Mar shall Lee, of Winston-Salem. Popular Spring Sunday school was reorganized Sunday morning, electing the following officers and teachers: Mr. John Wether man, superintendent; Miss Lu beth Cochrane, secretary; Mr. J. W. Gentry, adult teacher; Mr. Don Cochrane, intermediate teacher. The card class teach er was not elected. Mrs. J. A. Hayes entertained a large group of small children at a delightful birthday party Sun day afternoon, in honor of her small son, Benny Hugh. Carter visited his family here Sunday. Mrs. Celia Williams is not very much improved. She has been ill about two weeks. Mrs. Noah Hayes returned home last week from the local hospital where she underwent an operation. We are planning to work on the church cemetery Saturday. Anyone wishing to come and help will be welcome. The Popular Spring baseball team defeated the North Elkin team Saturday afternoon with a score of 8-14.
