START CLEAN UP CAMPAIGN Beer Distributors in State to Crack Down on Ob jecti' .able Outlets RALEIGH HEAD OFFICE Raleigh, June 13—In a letter to all beer retailers throughout the State, requesting cooperation in a "cisan-up" campaign. Colo nel Edgar H. Bain, state director of the new Brewers and North Carolina Beer Distributors Com mittee, simultaneously served no tice today that failure to "clean up" would mean "close-up." Colonel Bain promised prompt action against beer outlets whose operations are regarded by both industry and public as objection able. "The majority of the retail outlets," said Cclonel Bain, "are conducted legally and give no of fense to the general public. "Against the illegally operated minority, we will move vigorously as to seek revocation of their li censes. Such steps will be taken through the proper legal authori ties." The North Carolina campaign has the active support and coop eration of the United Brewers Industrial Foundation, nation wide organization whose mem bership includes leading large and small brewers. Similar campaigns have been inaugurated with success in Ne braska, Kansas, Alabama, Maine, and Tennessee. Headquarters of the Brewers and North Carolina Beer Distrib utors Committee has been estab lished in Raleigh. CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES IS DRAWING NEAR END The championship soft ball series in the Chatham Manufac turing company tournament draws near a close with three of the five games tucked away, two to the credit of the Bull Dogs, representing the office and card room, and one for the Hound Dogs (spinning department.) Although winning first place in both the first and second half of the tournament, the Hound Dogs lost their first two games in the series last Wednesday and Thurs day by scores of 5-2, 8-7. How ever, they came back Monday to whip their rivals 11-8. Winners and runners-up in .the tournament are to be entertain ed at a chicken fry next Monday evening by the T. C. U. club, which sponsored the tourney. Gold trophy soft balls will go to the winning team which includes 10 regular players, manager and one substitute. TO GIVE CHILDREN'S DAY PROGRAM JUNE 18 Sunday, June 18, the annual Children's Day program will be presented at Mountain Grove church. The meeting will con vene at 9 o'clock for the Sunday school lesson and at 10:30 there will be a sermon. Lunch will be served at noon picnic style. The afternoon will be devoted to the program by the children, directed by Mrs. Ruby Macemore. At 2:30 Prof. L. S. Weaver, of the Jonesville school, will make an address. Special music will be furnished by the Cool Springs choir. The public is cordially invited to attend. Reeves and family attended preaching ser vices at the Cross Road Baptist church last Sunday night. The time for the Young Peo ple's League at the Methodist church has been changed from Sunday night to Saturday night at 7:30 o'clock. All of the young people in this community and surrounding communities are in vited to attend. Mrs. Hattie Douglass, who is attending summer school at Salisbury, spent the week-end here at her home.
