Markham and daughters, Hilda and Neva, of Mocksville, were the guests of friends here Sunday. Rev. L. B. Murray, of State Road, left Saturday for Waterloo, lowa, where he will spend two weeks with his son, L. A. Murray. Misses Hazel and Lucille Phil lips returned Sunday from New York where they spent a week at tending the World's Fair. Misses Helen Finney, Lena Sale, Louise Laffoon and Peggy Royall left Monday for a stay of a week at Lake Junaluska. Harold Brendle, Fred Norman and John Ipock left Wednesday for Camp Lassiter, near Winston- Salem, for a stay of several days. Mrs. A. B. Somers and children have returned from a visit of two weeks with her mother, Mrs. I. W. Pritchard, at Chapel Hill. C., for the past several years and have moved to Statesville, where Mr. Reich has opened a real estate and rental office. They left Monday for their new home. Mr. Jesse Stanley visited friends in Jonesville during the week-end. y Many of our neighbors are at tending the revival services in Elkin this week. A new and modern front is be ing installed and complete new fixtures throughout the entire store will make it more attrac tive, more convenient and far roomier. The stairway which formerly led up from the street to offices upstairs, has been torn away, thus giving room for a wider front and more inside space. When once completed, a formal opening will be staged, date of which will be announced through this newspaper. In observance of the opening, many unusual values will be offered. w COOL SPRINGS There were 177 at Sunday school Sunday, with several visit ors, among them being Mr. and Mrs. Will E. Fisher and children, Lynn, Kathryn and John, of Bat tleground, -Ind. Mrs. Fisher was one time a resident of the Cool Springs community, and her many friends will remember her as Flossie Burcham. They will return to Indiana Tuesday. "Un cle Charlie" Carter was also back with us after a long period of sickness. We are very glad that Mr. Carter was sufficiently re covered to come back again. Rev. J. D. Luffman and Mrs. Luffman came back, as they expressed it, "Back home," Sunday. Mrs. Jay Myers, who has been for some time a patient in the Statesville hospital, was a much appreciated visitor Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Newman and children visited Mrs. New man's sister, Mrs. Conrad Hol comb, and Mr. Holcomb, at Mooresville, Sunday afternoon. The Sunday evening service was in charge of A. C. Wall, in the absence of Mrs. Paul New man. An interesting evening of singing by the Young People's chorus, interspersed by special numbers by the Holcomb Broth ers' Duet, and the Blackburn Sis ters' Trio, were much enjoyed. Prayer service was held at the home of R. C. Harris Saturday evening, honoring Mr. Harris' father, J. P. Harris. This is the second of a series of services to be held with all aged ones of this community, who are no longer able to attend church service. Looking about and thinking this over we find that so far as we know eveiy one of our aged peo ple here are devout Christians, and their warm "God Bless You" is a Heavenly benediction rest ing over Cool Springs. A series of meetings are to be gin here Sunday evening and continue through next week. Rev. Grant Cothren will assist the pastor in these services. All who know Rev. Cothren know him as a plain country preacher for plain country people. Prayer service will be held Sat urday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Reckford Wishon. A cordial invitation is extended ycu to come and worship with us here. Good Business The customer gazed pensively at the barber.
