H./ McNeil of Carthage, and Miss Mary Betty Norman, who is attending summer school at Chapel Hill, spent the week end with the family of Mr, and Mrs. Brady Norman. Delmer Dodge of the Beulah section, delivered a splendid ser mon at the Baptist church Sun day evening, supplying for the pastor, Rev. R. L. West, who be gan a meeting at the Mountain Park Baptist church Sunday ev ening. Delmer is starting in ministerial work, and judging from the way he handled his sub ject, "Strive to enter in at the straight gate." He has bright prospects as a minister. Miss Donese Russell and Billie Sam Folger have returned from Lake Junaluska, where they at tended an Epworth League con ference. Mr. and Mrs. DeWitt Sparger and Margaret Sparger and Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Crawford and children spent Sunday at Fairy- Stone Park, Va. Several Dobsonites enjoyed a picnic outing at Moore's Mill Sat urday evening, honoring Mr. and Mrs. Alver Dahlen and Miss Viola Dahlen. Norman Harkrader, who has been in the Davis Hospital at Statesville for treatment for the past two weeks, returned to his home here Friday. Mr. and Mrs. John Scott and Mr. and Mrs. Grat Steele and daughter, Betty, and Mrs. V. J. Myrick and children, Eileen and Joe, picniced Sunday with Mr. V. J. Myrick and his troop of Boy Scouts at Trail Inn. Misses Delia Davis and Kellie Mosely of Warrenton, N. C., spent a few days with Miss Mary Coop er last week. The younger set took them on a picnic Saturday evening up on Mitchell's River. Miss Lula Betsy Folger, who attends a summer session at W. C.-U. N. C., Greensboro, spent the week-end in Dobson. Mr. and Mrs. Alver Dahlen and Miss Viola Dahlen, of Flushing, N. Y., spent a few days last week with Mrs. Dahleen's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Winfield Snow, and her sister, Mrs. Edwin Reid. Brooks, local dairyman and stock farmer, shipped a truck load of cattle and hogs to Ox ford, Pa., Monday. Mr. Brooks, who is engaged with G. H. Hudler in the grocery business here, plans to discontinue his dairy and stock business and devote all of bis time to the grocery business. Dr. and Mrs. Tula Stimpson and Miss Grace Brown, of Ra leigh, are spending a few days with Mr. and Mrs. V. B. Brown, parents of Mrs. Stimpson and Miss Brown. Dr. Stimpson is con nected with the State Depart ment of Health. Mr. and Mrs. J. Ben Martin, of Orlando, Fla., arrived Sunday to spend a month's vacation with Mr. and Mrs. Martin's relatives here and in East Bend. The Boonville Book • Club met Wednesday night at the home of Mrs. D. H. Craver. Mr. and Mrs. Shade Thompson, of Chicago, 111., left Monday for their home after visiting Mr. Thompson's sister, Mrs. A. S. Speer, for a few days. Mrs. Hylton Jones and Robert (Bal) Bates are patients in Chat ham Memorial hospital at Elkin. Mr. and Mrs. James Shore are attending the World's Fair at New York this week. Mr. and Mrs. John Delmer Mock returned Sunday from a week's trip to Florida. Mr. Loman Richardson, for several years a resident of Boon ville, has recently entered a Flor ida hospital for treatment. J. C. Gough, of Roanoke, Va., visited his mother, Mrs. M. F. Gough, and Brother, Everett, Sunday and Monday. Mr. Gough is connected with the Johnson Chevrolet Corporation at Roanoke and has one of the highest rat ings of any salesman in the coun try. Stewart Shore, of Baltimore, Md„ is visiting his parents, Dr. and Mrs. T. W. Shore. John A. Speas, of Winston-Sa lem, and Edd Speas, of Galax, Va., visited their parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Speas, Sunday. Miss Swannie Stinson, of Rich mond, Va., spent the Fourth of July holiday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Stinson. Mrs. C. E. Smith, of Winston- Salem, visited relatives here re cently. Mr. Ralph Coram and Mr. Joe Hobson visited friends at Pine Tops in the eastern part of the state the past week-end. M. G. Carlyle Day, of Kings Moun tain, spent Sunday with his father, F. W. Day, who has been confined to his home for several weeks on account of sickness. James Reece, of Blacksburg, Va., visited his parents the past week-end. Wade Williams, who holds a traveling position with Reynolds Tobacco company, with head quarters at Greenville, S. C., is spending his vacation with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Grover Williams. Misses Irene and Frances Cor am, of Mt. Airy, spent Sunday with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Coram. A. B. Hobson left Monday to spend a few days at Blowing Rock. Mr. and Mrs. Bryant Finney, of Winston-Salem, visited Dr. and Mrs. Finney for a few days. Mr. and Mrs. George Hobson, of Lincolnton, visited relatives here recently. Miss Sadie Fleming and Miss Brummitt, of Raleigh, left Sun day for the World's Fair in New York. Attorney Earl James, of Elkin, addressed the Boonville Baptist Sunday school officers and teach ers at their regular monthly ses ion Monday night. Mr. James made an inspiring talk on Bun lay school work, taking as his subject, "Ye Shall Be My Wit nesses." In his talk Mr. James, who is a well known lawyer, gave several qualities that he wanted *n a case witness and several hings that he didn't want. Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Stinson and family spent Monday and Tues day with their daughter, Mrs. E. C. Cockerham, at Concord.
