Thursday, July 27. 1939 'THIRTEEN BOYS AND GIRLS GO TO 4-H MEETING Accompanied by Farm and Home Agent for a Week's Stay REPRESENT SIX CLUBS Thirteen boys and girls, mem bers of Yadkin county 4-H clubs, left Yadkinville yesterday for Raleigh, where they will attend the annual 4-H club short course held at State College this week. The group was accompanied by Miss Irene Brown, home demon stration agent, R. A. McLaugh lan, assistant farm agent, and Mrs. McLaughlan. Around 1,000 boys and girls are expected for the one week meeting at the col lege, from all over the state. Var ious programs of demonstrations and recreational features will fill up the week, along with various tours of the college and places of interest around Raleigh. On Thursday night the 4-H health queen and king of North Carolina will be selected and crowned. Julia Williams, health k queen, and J. K. Miller, health rking of Yadkin, will take part in the pageant. Those attending from the Yad kin 4-H clubs are: Boonville, Dorothy Fleming, Bryce Poindex ter and Carolyn Riden; Court ney, Jessie Hauser and Marie Miller; East Bend, Ellen Martin and Ernestine Doub; Yadkinville, Arthur L. Saylor, Donald Huds peth and Martha Bryant; Fall Creek, Frank Fleming; Jones ville, Davis Haynes and Claude Haynes. MINE RIDGE Mr. and Mrs. Dan Wilkins, of Arlington, were the Sunday even ing guests of Mr. and Mrs. Luther Smith. Mr. Clyde Ross is spending some time in Alleghany, the guest of his sister, Mrs. Theresa Walker. Mr. and Mrs. Clint Harper vis ited Mrs. Harper's sister, Mrs. Martha Booth, of near State Road, recently. Miss Una Norman spent the week-end with her sister, Mrs. Tommie Syden, of Mountain Park. i . Mr. Wayne Ross and Mr. War ren Harper visited friends near Mountain Park Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Herman Burke, of Danville, Va., were the week end guests of Mrs. Burke's par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Smith. A large crowd from here at tended the Sunday morning ser vice at Shoaly Branch church Sunday. The visiting minister, Rev. Mr. Osborne, of North Wilkesboro, delivered a very in spiring message. The Beamer quartet of Flint, Mich., were also present and sang several gospel songs which were enjoyed by ev eryone present. Mr. and Mrs. James H. White, of Pleasant Ridge, were the Sun day evening guests of their daughter, Mrs. George Snow. Misses Mary Ross and Charlene Peterson, of Boston, Mass., who have been visiting Miss Ross' parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tyre Ross, have returned to their home. MOUNTAIN PARK Misses Vannis Kinzie and Rosa Wagoner have returned to their home in Salem, Va., after visit ing Mr. and Mrs. Allan P. Kinzie for the past two weeks. Miss Wagoner's engagement to Mr. Kinzie's brother, Richard Cline Kinzie, has been announced, the wedding to take place in August. Little Miss Ann Johnson, of Winston-Salem, spent Tuesday with little Miss Nancy Hanes. Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Hanes and children, Irene, G. W-, Jr., Nancy and Bobby, spent Thursday in Mount Airy. Miss Vetra Hanes spent Thurs day night with Mr. and Mrs. O. T. Lewellyn, near Dobson. Miss Irene Hanes spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Byrd and family, of Benham. She was accompanied home by Messrs. Everette and J. Van Byrd and Misses Lois and Joyce Byrd. Mr. and Mrs. Llewellyn Gen try and children, Doswell and Lewell, spent Sunday in High Point visiting friends. Day, of Elkin, is holding the revival meeting at the Baptist church at Zephyr. Several from Mountain Park attended the service Sunday night. Little Misses Scottie Sue and Jean Caroll Adams, of Winston- Salem, spent last week here with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Walters, of Mt. Airy, visited relatives here last Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Harris and daughter, Dot, nephew, Elisha, and Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Har ris attended the foot washing at Bryant Sunday. Mr. Henry Tuell and Mr. Theo dore Swift spent last Monday and Tuesday in Hemphill, W. Va., vis iting relatives and friends. Mr. Clyde Cockerham, of Win ston-Salem, visited relatives here last week. Mr. and Mrs. Vem Holder, of Mulberry, were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Johnson last Sunday. Miss Louise Walters, of Rich mond, Va., spent last week the guest of Miss Annie Laura John son. Miss Swift Is Hostess at Party Tuesday Evening Miss Lillian Swift was hostess at an informal party Tuesday ev ening at her home near Moun tain Park, having as her guests about 20 young people. Chinese checkers, dominoes, bingo and other games were play ed during the evening. Prizes were awarded for the highest scores. During the evening tempting" refreshments were served. BETHEL | The annual revival meeting will begin at Bethel church here the second Sunday in August. The pastor will be assisted by Rev. Noah E. Melton, of Hender sonville. Rev. Mr. Melton is a graduate of Wake Forest College and has taken a special Bible course at the Moody Bible Insti tute. He was principal of Fruit land Institute for eighteen years or more. He is a brother of Mr. D. J. Melton, of this place. Other ministers are also invited to at tend. We are looking forward with great interest to this meet ing, where everybody is extended a hearty welcome. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Eckenrod and children, of Elkin, were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Durham last Sunday. Quite a number from here went to the mountains and lakes last Sunday for a picnic lunch and to enjoy the pleasant breeze. Sev eral went after Sunday school. Miss Iris Melton, of Hender sonville, visited her cousin, Miss Elenor Melton, the past week here for a few days. Mrs. G. L. Johnson visited rel atives at the Shady Grove com munity last Sunday. The storm in this section last Thursday afternoon did right much damage. | BENHAM . A succesful meeting was held at Benham church last week. Rev. Johnnie Luffman assisted the pastor, Rev. Grant Cothren, in the services. Much interest was shown the latter part of the week and scores of people from nearby churches attended the services. The baptismal service was held Sunday at 10 o'clock with only two baptised. Mr. Arthur West has been sick for several days but is improving, his many friends-will be glad to know. Mrs. Bennie Spencer was the guest of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Barker, of Little Mountain, Sunday. Mrs. Lexie Holbrook and little son, Kenneth, of Traphill, have been spending several days visit ing friends and relatives. Miss Bertha Darnell, of Roar ing River, spent a few days last week visiting her cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Hilary Byrd, and fam ily. Mr. and Mrs. Kelly Brown and small daughter, of Winston-Sa lem, were the week-end guests of Mrs. Brown's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Grover Walters. North Oak Ridge Mr. and Mrs. Cleat Moser, of Thomasville, spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Arna Moxley. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Shore were the Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. S. W. Brown. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Brown and children, Hilda Mae and Herman Ray, of High Point, spent last week with Mr. Brown's sisters, Mrs. Fonzo Brown, Mrs. R. W. Brown, and brother, Mr. George Brown. Miss Lillian Brown returned to Durham Sunday after spending a week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Brown. Mrs. Elmer Brown and daugh ter, Hilda Mae, and Miss Dorothy Sykes, of High Point, visited Mrs. W. A. Moxley Friday. Mrs. S. W. Brown, Miss Lillian Brown and Mrs. J. C. Brown vis ited Mr. and Mrs. Jake Brown, of East Bend, Wednesday. Mrs. Green Moxley is on the sick list this week. Miss Norma Brown returned to Statesville Sunday after a two weeks' stay with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Brown. Mr. and Mrs. Bynum Martin were the Sunday dinner guests of Mrs. Martin's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Brown. Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Moxley vis ited Mr. and Mrs. N. G. Moxley Sunday. Master Leonard Brown, of East Bend, spent a few days last week with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Brown.
