Mr. and Mrs. Ray Chap pell, of North Elk in. were visitors in the home of Mrs. P. H. Underwood Sunday afternoon. Miss Magdalene Martin spent Monday with Miss Willie Bell Osborne in North Elkin. Messrs. Odell Harpe, F. A. Lineberry. Tommy Luffman and Roby castevens attended a deacons' meeting at Boonville Monday night. We are glad to welcome Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Grier and family, of West Jefferson, who moved here last week. Mrs. Dumont Eskridge and daughter, Sarah Anne, of Hills boro, arrived here Monday to spend the week with her mother, Mrs. Mable Thompson. Miss Madelyn Thompson, who has been with her sister for a month, returned home. He will still re main here for an indefinite time before taking up his new position as pastor at Spray. Messrs. Dothan and Tommy Reece, Howard Casstevens and Thad Swaim, and Misses Pauline Gilliam, Edwina Hemrick and Nonnie Burcham attended the air show at Winston-Salem Sun day afternoon. Several from this community attended the funeral of Mr. Ralph Fletcher, of Boonville, Fri day morning. Mr. and Mrs. Otis Felts and children, Betty, Grady and Ben ney, of Winston-Salem, were the Sunday guests of Mrs. Felts' par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Z. B. Martin. Messrs. Leonard and O'Neil Lineberry spent Monday night with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. T. L. Lineberry, of near Boonville. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Davis, of Roaring River, were visitors here Sunday night. Miss Cornelia Lineberry spent Thursday night with Miss Mary Lou Holleman, of near Boonville. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Wall and children, Helen and Mildred, and Miss Reba Baugess spent Wed nesday in Winston-Salem. Messrs. Kemp Reece and Her bert Mayberry, students at Mars Hill College, Mars Hill, were the week-end guests of theif parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Reece and Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Mayberry. Mr. and Mrs. Ivry Johnson spent Wednesday afternoon in Winston-Salem. P.-T. A. Meets Thursday Evening The P.-T. A. of the Jonesville school met for its regular meet ing on Thursday evening at the THE ELKIN TRIBUNE, ELKIN, NORTH CAROLINA school house. Mrs. A. B. Scroggs, president, presided over a short business period. Mr. J. H. Swar lngen gave a short talk on "The Need of a Mimeograph for the School." Mr. A. B. Scroggs was in charge of the devotional. Miss Beulah Fleming, chair man of the program committee, presented a very Interesting pro gram. Miss Sarah Lou Reece rendered a piano solo, "Cinder ella." Misses Edith Johnson and Dixie Mae Rose rendered a duet, ' Rockabye." Master Pat John son rendered a few harmonica solos. Rev. J. P. Davis gave an interesting talk on "The Need of Christianity in the Schools." Fol lowing this, the Girl Reserves gave a candlelight service which was directed by Mrs. A. B. Scroggs. The old members Ini tiated the new members into their club. Miss Mary Thompson, president, gave an interesting talk followed by various members end then followed the initiation service which was enjoyed by all. Senior S. S. Classes Enjoy Picnic Tuesday The Senior Boys and Girls classes of the Sunday school of the Baptist church enjoyed a Hallowe'en party Tuesday even ing in the town hall. Decorations of the hall were orange and black, with the traditional Hallowe'en symbols. The games and contests were under the direction of Miss Geor gia Vestal. Prizes were awarded Arthur Martin and Ivry Johnson. Refreshments were served dur ing the evening to the 24 mem bers of the two classes attending. RONDA R. C. Martin, David Byrd, Carl Pardue, Junior Burchette and Ben Martin attended the air show in Winston-Salem Sunday. Mr. Warren Pardue and Gra ham Greene spent Sunday in Sparta. Mr. F. T. Moore spent the week-end in Mooresville. Miss Bertha Mcßride and Miss Willie Mcßride were business vis itors in Elkin Saturday. Mrs. Willie Binkley and chil dren, Joyce, Lee and David, of Lewisville, are spending this week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Martin. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mathis end children visited relatives here Sunday. Mrs. Ralph Martin honored her small daughter, Ida Ruth, with a party on her fourth birthday Fri day afternoon. Quite a number of her little friends attended. Af ter a series of games were en joyed, delicious refreshments were served. Mr. Marquette, of Statesville, will be the guest speaker of the Masons here this week. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hendrix and Carol were visitors in Winston- Salem Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. B. A. Edwards and children, Gerald and Wen dell, and Mrs. R. C. Martin and children were among those at tending the birthday dinner at Traphill Sunday for Mrs. Mark Mcßride in honor of her 81st birthday. Mrs. A. M. Blackburn enter tained her children at dinner Sunday in honor of Mr. Black burn's birthday. COOL SPRINGS Our Sunday school Is doing fine and we meet at nine Sunday morning in order to go early to the singing convention at Shoaly Branch. R. C. Harris has harvested 325 bushels (2 measures for one) shelled corn from seven acres of land planted half to peas and soybeans, that fifteen years ago would not have averaged ten bushels corn to the acre. Red clover and lespedeza are responsi ble for the difference. The farmers here are far be hind with the grain seeding, ow ing to the very dry weather. They are beginning to market their to bacco, but crowded floors are holding them back in this, also. Mr. and Mrs. Red Castevens of Traphill, and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Holbrook visited their new neph ew and grandson here Sunday. Several from this community attended the series of meetings at Pleasant Hill the past week, the services being marked by large attendance, splendid singing and good preaching. Mr. and Mrs. John Burton and daughter, Barbara Jean, were week-end guests of Mrs. Burton's parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. P. Hol brook. Born to Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Holbrook a nine pound son, on Thursday. Both mother and baby are doing fine. Uncle Charlie Carter has re turned from Twin-City hospital, Winston-Salem, and his condition is said to be satisfactory. Worth Newman has been ill with bronchitis for the past three weeks We hope he can soon re turn to school. Mrs. Kermit Darnell is a pa tient in the Davis hospital at Statesville, suffering with an at tack of appendicitis. Mr. Edgar Tucker had the mis fortune to fall and get rather badly injured several days ago. BENHAM Rev. Mrs. Wood has been seriously ill for several days, but her condition is improving, her many friends will be glad to know.
