NEWS FROM THE The Woman's Missionary so ciety of Dobson Baptist church met on last Thursday evening with Mrs. W. L. Reece. Opening song, "When I Survey the Won drous Cross." Devotionals were conducted by Miss Elizabeth Nor man. The topic for the month was, "The Great Commission and W.M.U. Chief Aims." A discus sion on "Tithes and Offerings" was led by the program leader. Miss Beatrice Holbrook, after which Mrs. John Lewellyn sang, "Give of Your Best to Your Mas ter." Those participating in topic discussions were Mrs. W. E. Han cock, "God's Financial Plan"; Mi's. D. T. Sparger, "What Tithes Could Do"; and Mrs. Bob Free man, Jr., "What Unpaid Tithes Are Doing." During the business session, a splendid personal service report was given by Mrs. C. W. Fowler, chairman of Personal Service. Plans and offerings were dis cussed on providing a box for the Mills Home on Thanksgiving, fol lowed by the usual benediction. During the social hour refresh ments were served by the hostess. The next meeting will be held in November, with Mrs. Howard Snow and Mrs. John Lewellyn joint hostesses. Those attending the road ded ication at Norvale Craig Wednes day from Dobson were Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Comer, Dr. and Mrs. Joe 'Folger, Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Reece, J. G. Walter Folger, of High Point, spent the week-end with relatives in Dobson. , Miss Julia Comer, of Fayette ville, spent Saturday and Sunday with her sister, Miss Emma Com er. Mrs. Emma Mock and Mr. Bausie Marion attended the State Welfare Conference at Chapel Hill last week. Spencer Norman, Mr. and Mrs. John Comer, Mr. Oliver Young, Miss Jennie Martin, Miss Hol brook and Miss Dixon attended the home-coming at Boone Sat urday. Rev. C. W. Russell, who has served the Methodist church for four years, has been transferred to Polkton, and will move his family there very soon. Mr. McClamrock and family will arrive this week to assume the charge vacated by Mr. Rus sell. Mr. and Mrs. Smithwick and family are occupying the home on Kapp street recently vacated by the Evans family. Mr. and Mrs. C. S.«Ramey and Miss Opal Lowe, of Low Gap, were in town Saturday on busi ness. The will of Mrs. J. B. Smith, of Pilot Mountain, was filed for pro bate Tuesday. Miss Lola Mosley, of Mt. Airy, and Miss Lucille Marion, of Cam eron, spent the past week-end with Miss Eunice Marion. The Surry Federation of Home Demonstration Clubs, directed by Mrs. Brown, was held in the school auditorium Saturday. Miss Virginia Crabb, a student of Mountain Park school, visited Miss Loretta Jenkins Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. T. T. Snyder of Cleveland, were the guests of Mr. Snyder's sister, Mrs. Reece Hem jrlc, Wednesday and Thursday of last week. Mr. and Mrs. John Alfred Hanes and little daughter, Anne, and Miss Pauline Dickerson of Kings Mountain, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Dickerson and family Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Reece Hemric an nounce the birth of a baby girl, named Reece Anna, at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital, Sat urday, October 28th. Mr. and Mrs. James Irvin and children, Jimmy and Josie Lee, and Mrs. Martha Irvin aiyi daughter, Daisy Mae, visited their parents at Clemmons Win ston-Salem Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Hoots of Winston-Salem, were the week end guests of their daughter, Mrs. R. F. White, and family. Mr. and Mrs. Clete Jenkins and daughters, Cleta and Loretta, went to Galax, Va., Sunday, where they visited their aunt, Mrs. Delia Chipman and family. Mr. and Mrs. G. F. Martin and children, Frankie and Bettie Sue, went to Benham Sunday to visit Mr. Martin's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ford Darnell. Mr. Raymond Jenkins of Rusk, was the guest of his brother, Mr. Clete Jenkins and family, Sun day night. Mr. and Mrs. Noah Ray and lit tle daughter, Bettie, of Salisbury, were week-end visitors in the home of Mrs. Ray's parents, Mr. and Mi's. T. A. Gentry. Mr. and Mrs. Ila D. Burch and daughter, Jennie, of Little Rich mond, were guests of Mrs. Leota Cockerham and family Sunday. Pleasant Ridge I Rev. Frank Peeler, of Taylors ville, will fill his regular appoint ment here Sunday afternoon. A large crowd from this com munity attended the singing con vention at Shoaly Branch Sun day. Born to Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Carter, a daughter, October 26. Both mother and baby are doing fine. Mrs. B. W. Carter is listed among our sick. Misses Winnie, Jean and Lucy Luffman. of State Road, were the guests of their grandmother, Mrs. C. L. Luffman, Sunday. The Woman's Missionary soci ety met with Mrs. T. G. Walsh Thursday afternoon, with 15 members and four visitors pres ent. The meeting opened with a song, after which Mrs. V. W. Luff man led in prayer. The program centered around the topic "Tithes and Offerings." The different topics were discussed by members of the society. After the discus sion a short business meeting was held. Mrs. Edd Carter closed the meeting with prayer. During a pleasant social hour the hostess served refreshments. DOUGHTON Mr. and Mrs. J. E. DeJournette and Miss Sallie Woodruff spent Saturday in North Wilkesboro. Mrs. Mattie Jarvis, of Oakland, Calif., visited in this community the past week. The Roaring Gap choir attend ed the fifth Sunday singing at Piney Grove church last Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Royall are the proud parents of a fine baby boy. Mother and child are get ting along nicely. Mr. and Mrs. G. B. Gentry and children, Mary Alice, G. 8., Jr., and Sarah, spent the week-end here with Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Gentry. Mr. Clate Riggs, of North Wilkesboro, is erecting a nice dwelling on his farm near Dough ton. The Doughton hosiery mill 1s running again after several weeks suspension. Several of our people attended the Hallowe'en program at Austin and Mountain Park Saturday night and report a very nice time. x FAIR VIEW Mr. and Mrs. June Rumbly and Mr. Rumbly's mother, of Greens boro, visited Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Alberty Sunday. The Winston-Salem quartet will bo at Fairview Baptist church Sunday evening, Novem ber 5, at 7:30 o'clock. They are one of the best quartets In the state. Everyone is invited to at tend. Owing to the continued dry weather the wheat crop will be cut very much because'the farm- ere can't prepare the soil for planting. The people of this section are getting their tobacco graded and ready for market and are getting a very good price for it. Mrs. John Allen Snow and lit tle daughter, Helen Willys, were the guests of Mrs. Everett Al berty Sunday afternoon. The friends of Mrs. Pleas Lin ville are sorry to learn she is in the hospital at Winston-Salem and is not expected to recover.
