A group of Dobson Woman's club members and other citizens attended the benefit theatre party at Elkin Thursday evening, spon sored by the Elkin Woman's club. Miss Emma Comer, Miss Eliza beth Norman and W. Grady Nor man spent the week-end at Car thage , with Mr. and Mrs. W. H. McNeill. Mrs. Emma Hampton and Mrs. W. L. Reece spent last Tuesday with Mro. Sallie Summers and Mrs. Ed Inman, in Mt. Airy. Others enjoying the hospitality of this home at the same time were Mrs. Albert Bunker and Mrs. John H. Polger. Mrs. P. F. Riggs spent the week-end in Pilot Mountain with her sisters, Mrs. Badgett and Mrs. Redman. Mrs. W. B. Norman returned Sunday from Carthage, where she spent the past week with her daughter, Mrs. Louise Norman McNeill. Miss Betty Folger, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Carl Folger, is in the Mt. Airy hospital after having an operation there Friday for ap pendicitis. She is recovering sat isfactorily, and may soon be able to resume her school work. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hobson, of Boonville, have returned from a honeymoon at the World's Fair and Washington. They spent Sunday afternoon in Dobson vis iting among friends. White, of Thomasville, spent the week-end here the guest of Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Bur ton. M. A. Gaither, of Winston-Sa lem, was a business visitor here Monday. The Winston-Salem quartette sang at the service at Fairview Baptist church Sunday. The ser vice was greatly enjoyed by the large audience. Rev. C. M. Caudle, of Moun tain View, will fill his regular appointment at Union Cross Bap tist church Saturday evening and Sunday. The public is invited. Hayhes, of Courtney, spent the week-end with Mrs. Haynes' parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Harrell. Mr. and Mrs. Holmes Williams and family visited Mr. and Mrs. Roy Patterson in Winston-Salem. Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Matthews, of Little Richmond, in Surry county, were the week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Matth ews, parents of Mr. Matthews. Mr. Matthews is principal of Lit tle Richmond school. Mr. Glenn Garriott, of Wash ington, D. C., spent the week-end here with Mrs. Garriott. Mr. Garriott is a building contractor and is loated at the present time at Washington. Mr. John Nicholson, of Walnut Cove, visited his parents at Bal-| timore recently. Miss Gertrude Yarborough j spent the week-end with her; parents at Old Town. Miss Yar borough is a'member of the local school faculty. Woodson Burrus, who holds aj position with the Greyhound bus lines, is spending a few days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. W.| Burrus. Miss Annie Lee Smitherman, of ; Rural Hall, spent a few days re cently with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Smitherman. Miss Elizabeth Anne Webster, of Winston-Salem, spent the week-) end with Misses Dorothy Ellen and Mary Ruth Martin. Miss Lois Nicholson, of Pilot Mountain, is visiting Mr. and Mrs. Bill Combs. Miss Pauline Lineberry, of Winston-Salem, had as her week end guest, Miss Ferrol Needham, of Winston-Salem. Mrs. W. H. Leake had as her guest recently her son, John Leake, of Charlotte. Mr. John Marlyn Matthews made a busines strip to Winston- Salem Saturday. The East Bend basketball sea son will get under way Friday night when the boys' and girls' teams will play the Hanes teams from Winston-Salem. FALL CREEK Prayer service was held at Fall "Creek Sunday night with good at tendance. Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Ford gave a surprise birthday supper Sat urday night honoring their daughter, Mrs. Floyd Macemore, on her 19th birthday anniver sary. A delicious supper was en joyed by the many relatives and friends who attended. The many friends of Miss Bid die Bryant will be glad to know that she has returned to her home from Davis hospital after an operation. Mr. Melvin Wagoner and fam ily moved Monday to Wilkes county. We regret to see them go. People in this community are busy grading \ tobacco. Steelman and sons, Howard and Gale, spent Sunday with Mrs. Steelman's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Led better, of Austin. Mrs. Hazel Hinshaw and Miss Mary Swisher made a business trip to Elkin Friday. Miss Minnie Ree Hanes was the guest of Miss Lucille Myers, of Jonesville, over the week-end. Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Hanks, of Ronda, were week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Garfield Gambill. Rev. Gough, of Bean Shoals, preached at East Elkin Baptist church at the eleven o'clock hour Sunday. Rev. J. L. Powers filled his regular appointment at Bean Shoals Sunday at 2:30 o'clock and also at East Elkin Sunday evening at the 7:00 o'clock hour. Rev. J. L. Powers and Rev.
