Thursday, November 16. 1939 ppicer Family nolds Re Throng A family reunion was held Sun day, November 5, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. V. Spicer, at Trap hill, with approximately 300 in attendance. The gathering honored members of the Spicer family who were re united for the first time in 30 years. Members of the immediate family of Mr. and Mrs. Spicer at t tending were: John Spicer of \ Daytona Beach, Florida, Ernest Spicer of Rock Springs, Wyo; Mrs. k W. T. Renigar of Rock Springs, f Wyo., Mrs. M. E. Mcßride of Green River City, Wyo., and Mrs. Maymie Joyner of Traphill. Rev. Mr. Lyons addressed the gathering briefly before dinner. A bountiful dinner was served picnic style. The afternoon was spent in renewing acquaintances and singing old songs. During their visit in North Carolina members of the family from a distance visited in Elkin and were much impressed with the growth of the town during their absence. Ernest Spicer, who is a sheep raiser in Wyoming, was vastly (impressed with his visit to the tehatham Manufacturing company £ind its amazing growth since he was here 30 years ago. EMPLOYEES OF OIL CO. TO GET SHARE Employees in the North Caro lina Division of the Standard Oil Company were informed today by C. M. Byers, division manager, •that they were to receive their l share of approximately $2,250,- 000.00 that the company and af filiates are making as an addi tional contribution to increase the balances which employees j have to their credit in the An-i nuity and Thrift Plan. Every employee participating in the Plan will receive a credit k of $25.00 those not- partici pating in the Plan who have one or more years of service will re ceive a credit of a like amount. In addition, participants in the! Thrift Plan will receive an addi-| tional sum equal to 14 per cent, of the regular employee and com-' pany contributions that were made during the twelve months ending October 31, 1939. Under the provisions of the Employees Thrift Plan any em ployee can authorize his employ-' ■ing company to withhold and as-! f sign to his credit in the Fund not less than 3 per cent, nor more than 13 per cent, out of his pay envelope. The employing com-: pany adds to this payment dollar for dollar on the first 3 per cent, of the employee's salary assign-j ed to the Fund and 50c more for each dollar above the 3 per cent.l minimum required for member-j ship. JEFFERSON MAN IS CLEARED OF CHARGES In a trial which saw upward of 80 witnesses parading across the witness stand, John Jones, 30- year-old bus driver, was exhonor ated of charges brought In con nection with an automobile-bus accident which killed two persons near Wilkesboro four years ago. The Wilkes Jury returned its verdict after 30 minutes' delibera tion to free the West Jefferson man, who has a number of rela tives here. Attorneys represent ing Jones were W. M. Allen and Hoke F.
