Spainhour left Sunday for a business trip of several days to Baltimore and New York. Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Bedding field spent the week-end in Wake Forest, the guests of W. H. Bed din gfield. Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Smith re turned Saturday from a three day business and pleasure trip to Cincinnati. Alex Chatham, of this city, and M. E. Motsinger, of Winston-Sa lem, left Friday for a ten-day fishing trip to Florida. Miss Lillian Tucker and Wil liam and Don Poplin spent Sun day in Winston-Salem, the guests of Miss Frances Prevette. Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Somers had as their overnight guest Thursday, Mrs. Somers' brother, Qrady Pritchard, of Chapel Hill. Miss Sadie Rice, of Belton, S. C., was a week-end guest in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Chat ham, on East Main street. Miss Constance Greenwood spent the week-end in Chapel Hill, the guest of her mother, Mrs. Mae Bodenheimer Greenwood. Miss Elizabeth Beddingfield spoilt the week-end in Raleigh, where she attended the dances at North Carolina State College. Mrs. L. L. Hendrix, of James town, is the guest this week of her mother, Mrs. E. C. Kirkman, at her home on West Main street. Dr. and Mrs. M. O. Fox of this city announce the birth of a son, Ross Maurice, at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital, November 22, 1939. R. J. Ball and Ralph Sowden of Philadelphia, were the guests Tuesday of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Neaves, at their home on Bridge Street. Misses Nell and Aileen Coving ton, of Winston-Salem, were the week-end guests of Mrs. Reece Cockerham, at her home in Jonesville. Mrs. L. E. Cockerham and chil dren, Jimmy and Johnny, spent the week-end at East Bend, the guests of Mrs. Neal Spainhour and family. Mr. and Mrs. Earl M. Hodel at tended the concert by Gladys Swarthout at the Reynolds audi torium in Winston-Salem Mon day evening. T. B. Hayward and George Baird, of Philadelphia, were the guests Monday of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Neaves, at their home on Bridge street. Mrs. C. S. Poster returned Sun day from a visit of two days with her daughter, Miss Mary Eliza beth Foster, a student at Mere dith College, Raleigh. Jimmy Black of York, S. C., ar rived Wednesday for a week-ertd visit with his aunt, Mrs. £>. G. Smith, and Mr. Smith, at their home on Bridge Street. \ Mrs. Parks Hampton had as her guests Thursday at her home on Surry avenue, her mother and sister, Mrs. P. A. Myers and Mrs. Byron Lopp, of Lexington. Mrs. Walter E. Clark of Ashe vville, was the overnight guest Tuesday of her sister, Mrs. E. C. James, and Mr. James, at their home on West Main Street. Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Hicks, of Atkins, Va., and Bill Smoot, of New York, were the guests Fri day of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Neaves at their home on Bridge street. Hubbard had as her guests Saturday at her home on Surry avenue, Mr. and Mrs. Clif ton Leary and little daughter, Julia Ann, and Miss Lena Goff, all of Winston-Salem. Mr. and Mrs. W. A. From Durham they went to Dan ville, Va., where they were week end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Savage. Prof. Z. H. Dixon and daugh ter, Miss Blanche Dixon, spent Sunday in Roanoke, Va., the guests of nieces and nephews of Prof. Dixon. They were accom panied by W. J. J. P. Leeper, of Asheville, was the overnight guest Monday of his brother, T. A. Leeper, and Mrs. Leeper, at their home on West Main v street. On Tuesday the Messrs. Leeper went to Statesville, to visit their brother, A. B. Leeper, of Dallas, who is seriously ill in a hospital there. Miss Olivia Abemethy, a stu dent at Virginia Medical College, Richmond, Va., arrived Wednes day for a visit with her parents, Dr. and Mrs. J. G. Abernethy, at their home on West Main Street. She brought as her guests her classmates, Miss Amelia Gardner of Pulaski, Va. ( and Miss Edna Meadows at Hinton, West Virginia. Miss Margaret Abernethy, a stu dent at the Woman's College of the University of North Carolina, Greensboro, will arrive Saturday for a week-end visit with her pa rents.
