The Woman's Missionary So ciety of the Baptist church in Jonesville and Arlington had their annnal study course at the Jones ville Baptist church Tuesday eve ning. Mrs. D. H. Craver and Miss Pheobe Day of Boonville are teaching the course. They will continue the course Friday even ing at the Arlington Baptist church. Misses Lorraine Osborne, Jessie Mae Osborne and Virginia An thony and Messrs. Hal Harrison, Buford Faw and Cecil Seaver spent Sunday in Salisbury. Messrs. O'Neil and Leonard Lineberry spent Thursday and Friday with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. T. L. Lineberry of near Boonville. Mr. Roy Gentry who is residing here temporarily had as his guests Friday night, his wife and sons, Harvey and James, and Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Baugess of Winston- Salem. Mr. George Holder and Mr. Jack Page spent Wednesday in Win ston-Salem. Mrs. Will Brown returned to her home Sunday after spending two weeks with her brother and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Kerley of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Mr. and Mrs. Dett Underwood and son, Bobby Lee, of Winston- Salem were the Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. P. H. Underwood. Roy Hampton is listed among the sick this week. Mrs. F. A. Lineberry and daugh ter, Virginia, Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Helton and Mr. Roby McCollum visited Mr. and Mrs. T. L. Line berry of near Boonville Sunday afternoon. Master Leonard Line berry returned with them after spending the week-end there. Mr. and Mrs. G. S. Wagoner and children, Leo and Allen, of Brooks Cross Road, were visitors here Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Paris of West Yadkin spent Sunday here, the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Porter. Mr. Stanford Brown of Boone spent the week-end here with friends. The Rev. Mrs. Eph Whlsenhunt Speaks To Girl Reserves After a brief business session Friday afternoon November 17, Mrs. Eph Whisenhunt talked to the Girl Reserves on Chinese characteristics and customs. This talk was one of unusual interest and inspiration. Following this address, the cab inet members were asked to stand at which time the work of each was described by the advisor, Mrs. A. B. Scroggs. The cabinet con sists of the president, Mary Thompson; vice-president, Thelpia Quesenberry; secretary-treasurer, Alma Couch; chairman of program committee, Grace Myers; chair man of the social committee, Susie Mathis; chairman of social ser vice, Eloise Cummings; chairman of membership committee, Carmel Finney and chairman of arrang ment committe, Mozelle Kimmer. The Girl Reserve Council mem bers were guests for the program; The members of the council are as follows: Mcsdames L. S. Weav er, Harvey Madison, bwight Mul lis, R. G. Boles, Ed Wall and Miss Bertha Adams. At the close of the program, the social committee served refresh ments consisting of punch and cakes to the council members, school faculty and members of the Girl Reserves. Rev. J. P. Davis Honored At Banquet Friday Evening The Rose Marlowe and Delia Woodhouse circles of the Baptist church honored Rev. J. P. Davis, their pastor, with a banquet at the church Friday evening. The guests were received in the auditorium by Mrs. J. L. Brandon and Mrs. Mag Price where each was given a program. Then the guests assembeled in the new Sunday school rooms where the tables were elaborately decorated, carrying out the Thanksgiving motif. In the center of the table was placed a large pumpkin with turkeys attached on strings. Rev. D. G. Reece led in prayer before the guests were seated. After the first course, Misses Virginia Line berry and Evelyn Arnold rendered a duet "Lead Thou Me On" by THE ELKIN TRIBUNE, ELKIN, NORTH CAROLINA Marion Roberts and R. M. Stults, accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Ivory Johnson. Mr. P. A. Line berry gave a toast to Mr. Davis and Mr. Davis responded. After the second course, Mr. Leon Mar tin rendered a solo, "Be Still" by Benjamin S. Perrall and Alfred Wooler, accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Ivory Johnson. Mrs. Johnson also rendered several classical piano solos during the evening. At the end of the pro gram, Miss Bertha Adams gave a short talk on "Thanks" after which the guests were led in prayer and adjourned. Thirtiy four guests enjoyed the event. Beta Club Meets With Ruth Brown The November meeting of the Beta Club was held Thursday evening November 23, at the home of Miss Ruth Brown with the president, Eugene Martin, presid ing. After a brief business session and program, a social hour was enjoyed. Games were played and those winning prizes were Misses: Nonnie Burcham, Lorene Vestal, Edwina Hemrick and Mr. Thomas Reece. ~ Refreshments were served. BETHEL The recent rain and snow here broke the drought of several weeks. The farmers have been unable to prepare the land for small grain in many cases. How ever, we have been blessed with bright sunny days to harvest the crops. There have been some large porkers butchered in this com munity. Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Mathis and little daughter, Edna, Mrs. W. N. Weatherman, Mr. and Mrs. Charles T. Jones all spent last Sunday at Roanoke, Va„ visiting relatives. Born to Mr. and Mrs. Roy Myers a daughter, Saturday, No vember 25. Miss Ruby Pardue visited rel atives and friends at Clingman last week and attended the meet ing at Pleasant Grove church. • Mrs. R. G. Sparks, Miss Kath erine Jones and Hope Miller, of Winston-Salem, spent a while visiting at the home of their brother and uncle last Monday. T. S. Jones accompanied them home.
