Miss Magdalene Martin is spending this week in Winston- Salem, the house guest of Miss Irene Smith. At a special meeting held at the Arlington Baptist church on Jan uary 3, Rev. Scales Draughn was unanimously called to be pastor of the church. Rev. Draughn will preach his first sermon Sunday night February 4, at the Baptist church in Arlington. Everyone is invited to attend. Miss Qeorgie Vestal spent the week-end in Danville, Va., where she attended a Debutante Ball. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Burcham announce the birth of a son on Tuesday January 23, at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mr. Leon Martin, Misses Mag dalene Martin and Virginia Line berry and Mrs. Ivory Johnson at tended the Community Sing ■at Winston-Salem Sunday afternoon. Messrs. Lenoard and Oneil Line berry are spending a few days this week with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. T. L. Lineberry of near Boonville. Mrs. Otis Felts and children, Grady, Benney and Betty of North Elkin were the week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Z. B. Mar tin. Mrs. Charles Williams entered High Chatham Memorial Hospi tal Monday night for treatment. Mr. Robert Apperson spent the week-end in with relatives. • Mr. and Mrs. Roby Sprinkle and son Michael Doss; Mr. and Mrs. Jim Groce, Miss Opal Doss and Mr. Curtis Groce spent the week end in High Point with Mrs. A. G. Doss. Mrs. John Mayberry and daugh ter, Vickie Gwyn, returned home Tuesday from Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Walter Wright and chil dren, Jack, Lorraine, Wesley and Gerry Ann, of Yadkinville, spent the week-end here with Mrs. W. F. Reece. Miss Agnes Pardue spent Tues day in Charlotte. Several from this community attended the Roosevelt Ball held at Elkin Tuesday evening. Mrs. Dovie Sprinkle, of near Dobson, visited her daughter, Mrs. Roy Hampton, Sunday night. Y.W.A. Meets Tuesday Evening The Alda Grayson Y.W.A. of the Baptist church met Tuesday evening at the home of Miss Eve lyn Arnold, with three members and one visitor, Miss Cornelia Lineberry, present. Miss Bertha Adams was in charge of the pro gram, "God's Purpose Working Out," and each member present ed an interesting part of the'pro gram. The devotional period was presented by each member read ing a piece of scripture and a verse of some song was sung af ter each scripture reading. The closing song was "There Is a Name I Love to Hear," and the closing prayer was "That we may take our part in continuing to carry out God's plan of the world," led by the leader, Miss Bertha Adams. Routine business was discussed and the hymn for the year is "How Firm the Foundation," and the watchword is "Be ye stead fast, unmovable, always abound ing in the work oi the Lord." THE ELKIN TRIBUNE, ELKIN, NORTH CAROLINA LONGTOWN Misses Esther Reinhardt, Ar nette Long, Mr. Beecher Shore, and Mr. Ralph Jones visited Mrs. Clarence Key Saturday night. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Shore visited Mr. and Mrs. Willie Bell Sunday, of Arlington. Mr. Herbert Shore has been spending a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Edwar4 Shore. Our community seems to be enjoying the snow and ice, as the pond has made a grand skating place for the girls and boys. We are sorry to have had some on our sick list. Among them are Mrs. Parks Shore, Mrs. Nellie Messick, Mrs. Jim Reinhardt, Mr. and Mrs. Thad Shore. Mrs. Parks Shore is still confined to her bed. We wish for her a speedy recov ery. Mr. and Mrs. Seamon Rein hardt have moved recently into a house belonging to Mr. John King. Mr. Lester Bell, who was skat ing on the pond, fell and cut a gash in his head Sunday after noon which we hope not serious. Miss Bernice Bell spent Sunday in Arlington. Pleasant Ridge Due to the bad weather the Sunday school attendance has fallen considerably during the past few weeks. Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock the pastor, Rev. Frank Peeler, will fill his regular appointment at our church. The public is cordially invited to attend. Much improvement is noted in the condition of the sick in this community this week. Mr. and Mrs. Ledford Tucker are expected to move here this week from Winston-Salem. Albert Caudle and family, of Burch, are also moving into this community. T. M. Carter spent Monday in Statesville, attending to business matters. BURCH I Rev. L. W. Burrus of Rockford, will fill his regular appointment at Mt. Hermon Baptist church this week-end. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Sneed and children, Rufus Allen and Lydia Jane, were the Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Patton, near Jonesville. Miss Jennie V. Greenwood has returned to her home here, after spending several days in North Wilkesboro, the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Noah Greenwood. J. C. Carter, of Winston-Salem, spent Sunday here the guest of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Carter. Mrs. Dora Layne, who has been ill for sometime, does not show any improvement, we regret to note. V. C. Whitaker, who has been ill for several days with pneumon ia. is improving, his many friends will be glad to know. Miss Lucille Marion spent the week-end in Rockford, the guest of friends and relatives. Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Sneed and little daughter, Margaret Jane, moved here Saturday from Elkin. We welcome them back to their former home. Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Bovender of near Boonville, announce the birth of a son, Johnny, Jr., on January 28. Mr. and Mrs. J. A. White and son, Wade, spent the week-end in Thomasville, the guests of friends and relatives. P. C. Southard of Mulberry, is seriously ill in a Statesville hospi tal, his friends will regret to know, Mr. and Mrs. Noah Greenwood of North Wilkesboro, spent the week-end here with the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Greenwood. Mrs. Ralph Chappel, a member of the Shoals school faculty, is spending several days with friends and relatives here, while the school is closed, due to bad weather. I MULBERRY Rev. Preston Stone will preach Saturday evening at 2 o'clock and again Sunday at 11 o'clock at Mulberry Primitive Baptist church. The public is cordially invited to attend. Rev. Richard Pardue delivered his first two sermons at Bessie's Chapel Baptist church on Satur day night, January 20, and Sun day, January 21. Both sermons were greatly enjoyed by ail who were present. Miss Kathleen Dobbins, of Winston-Salem, spent the week end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. G. Dobbins. Mr. and Mrs. Cleve Williamson and family, of Salem Pork, were the Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. V. Holden and family. Mr. Ruben Renegar, of the United States Navy, stationed at Norfolk, Va., is on a week's vaca tion visiting his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. B. T. Southard, and his sister, Audrey Renegar. Mr. J. P. Southard is in the Davis hospital at Statesville for operation and is in a serious con dition. His many friends wish for him a speedy recovery. Mrs. Emmie Tucker has been ill for the past week but is re covering nicely. Mrs. J. R. Baker is ill at the present time, her many friends are sorry to note. The infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thurmond Frazier is very ill at the present, we are sorry to note. Mr. Z. V. Thompson is very ill at this writing. His many friends hope for him a speedy recovery. We welcome Mr. and Mrs. Gaither Wall and daughter, Ha zel, to our community, who re cently moved here from Friend ship community. MOUNTAIN VIEW Rev. J. L. Powers filled his reg ular appointment at Mountain View Baptist church Sunday. Glad to state that Mrs. OUie May Swaim of Winston-Salem, who has been ill for some time, is able to visit her parents and grandmother, Mr. and Mrs. Har rison Tucker and Mrs. Nancy Shore.
