Rufus Crater, of Winston-Sa lem, spent the week-end here the guest of his mother, Mrs. R. P. Crater, on Gwyn avenue. Mr. and Mrs. J. Paul Gilliam and son, Sammy, of Statesville, were the Sunday guests of Mrs. Sam Ray at her home here. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Smoot spent Sunday in North wilkesboro, the guests of Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Spainhour left Sunday for New York City, where he will spend this week buying merchan dise for the Sydnor-Spainhour store. Miss Mary Ann Burge, of Red Bank, N. Mr. and Mrs. Dan Barbour spent Sunday in Danville, Va., the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Cockerham, the former a brother of Mrs. Barbour. H. B. Holcomb and M. C. Whitener will attend the thirteenth district meeting of the American Legion at Kernersville Friday evening. Paul Price, who has been ill for several months, entered Duke hospital, Durham, again Monday for further treatment, his many friends will regret to know. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Poindexter will leave today for a stay of two weeks in Florida. They will visit Mrs. Poindexter's sister, Mrs. Frank Leek, in St. Petersburg, Mrs. John Ross and family in Jacksonville, and will also visit in Miami. Mrs. L. A. Jackson, of Greens boro, is spending a few days at Rusk with her mother, Mrs. Ua D. Burch, and other relatives. Mrs. Jackson expects to leave Saturday for Miami, Fla., to join Mr. Jackson to spend the re mainder of the winter. Rev. and Mrs. Eph Whisenhunt were called to Morganton Satur day on account of the critical ill ness of Mrs. E. F. Adair, who is in a hospital there suffering from a severe heart ailment. ZACK, FORMERLY HERE, DIES SUDDENLY M. w. Zack, of Galax, Va., member of the A. & Z. stores formerly located here, died on the west coast of Florida Wed nesday afternoon of last week. Mr. Zack was In Florida to recup erate from a two-month hospi tal illness. Funeral services were held in his native home at Philadelphia.
