NEWS PROM THE m The new bus line from Mount Airy to Salisbury is a great con venience to several towns along the line, to wit: Dobson, Elkin, Boonville, Yadkinville and Mocks ville. A Brunswick stew with acces sories and chicken noodle dinner will be served at the Woman's club building Tuesday evening, February 13, after which a Bazaar will be held, sponsored by Mrs. R. A. Freeman's and Mrs. John Lewellyn's Woman's club com mittees. Come and eat and buy! Miss Mary Cooper and Miss Lula Betsy Folger, students at W. C. U. N. C., Greensboro, spent the week-end at their homes here. Rev. R. L. West preached at the Baptist church Sunday even ing, and at the close of the ser mon two new deacons, J. T. Threatte and J. G. Lewellyn, were ordained by the pastor, assisted by Mr. W. L. Reece, Mr. Thad Reece, of Yadkinville, and Mr. Moore, of Courtney. Mrs. W. H. McNeil returned to her home Sunday at Carthage after spending two weeks with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Brady Norman. Mis Julia Comer, of Fayette ville, member of the Welfare staff, spent Saturday and Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. John Comer. Mrs. Elizabeth Bolick enter tamed the Contract club Satur day evening. Mrs. J. W. Comer was high score winner, and at the conclusion of the progressions Mrs. Bolick served a delicious course of refreshments. Miss Lucile Freeman returned to her school work on the Ran dleman faculty Sunday. Little Phil Folger, son of Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Folger, has been seriously ill since Thursday, but is more comfortable today. Mr. R. Cleve Lewellyn left Sat urday for a vacation in sunny Florida. He may remain away for six weeks or more. Mr. and Mrs. Ivey Rogers and son, Ivey Gray, and Mrs. Mary Foiger spept the week-end in Semora with Mr. Rogers' parents. Mrs. A. P. Cobb was called home to Kinston Saturday to be with her father who is very ser iously ill. Mrs. W. M. Stone spent Friday in Pilot Mountain with her daughter, Mrs. Kent Swanson. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Forrest spent part of last week with rel atives in Francisco. Frank Marion, of Asheboro, is spending a few days with his sis ter, Mrs. Roby Marion. Mr. P. G. Bolick, a member of the school faculty at Shallotte, near Wilmington, spent the past week with his family here, his school having been closed because of a flu epidemic. Miss Eva Hancock and little Linda Hancock spent the week end in Winston-Salem with the family of Mr. and Mrs. Bennett Cornelius. Frank Comer went to tfurg Saturday to V i t his brothers, and other friends. He was a student at Louisburg Col lege last year. Mrs. Annie Marian Davis died at her home near Dobson Satur day. Funeral arrangements have not been completed. Mrs. w. B. Norman, Mrs. Callie Hassler, Mrs. Lamont, Mrs. W. H. McNeil and Spencer Norman were in Winston-Salem Friday. Ex-Sheriff J. D. Thompson, of Mt. Airy, was in Dobson Friday on legal business. Mr. Forrest, principal of the Dobson high school, says school opened after ten days vacation, with a good attendance. The school was closed because of bad roads. LONGTOWN Mr. and Mrs. Thad Shore and children, June and Herbert, were the week-end visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Shore, of Cycle. Mr. and Mrs. Parks Shore had as their guests Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Edd Long and son, Garry, Mr. and Mrs. Willie Bell and 'son, Tony, of Arlington, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Shore and daughter, Shelby Jean, Mr. and Mrs. John King, Mrs. Jim Reinhardt, Misses Ester Reinhardt and Amette Long, and Mr. Lester Bell. Mrs. Lula Harp was a visitor in the home of Rev. and' Mrs. Sam Jones Saturday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Dan Rtlahardt and children, Bobby, Peggy and Donny, were the Sunday visitors of Mr. and. Mrs. Arlie Steelman, of Boonville. Mr. and Mrs. Dan Long plan ned to have music at their home Thursday night, but their guests were disappointed by the musi cians being absent. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Ramon Long, Misses Ester Reinhardt, Arnette Long, Magdalene Long, Mr. Beecher Shore, Mr. Lester Bell and Mr. Ralph Jones. We hope for Marvin Long a speedy recovery as he has*been ill several weeks. Mr. Jim Reinhardt and Ramon Harp were visitors in Elkin Fri day. Discontinue 25c additional continuous monthly charge for hand set equipment and charge in lieu thereof flat charge of $3.00 at time hand set is install ed; 2. Eliminate present restriction as to four-party business service; 3. Establish following rates for business service: Individual line, $3.75; auxiliary line $3.00; two party line $3.25; four-party line $2.75; rural multi-party line $2.50; 4. Establish following rates for residence service; Individual line, $2.50; two-party line $2.25; four party line $2.00; rural multi party line $2.00; 5. Bill exchange service in ad vance and allow a 25c discount for prompt payment from charges sYwyjm in "3" and "V above;- - * 6. Provide rate of 75c per month for business extension telephones; 7. It is further ordered that this application be set down for hear ing at a session of the Commis sion to be held in its hearing room at the Commission's Office Building in the City of Raleigh on the 20th day of February, 1940, at 10:00 ajn., at which time anyone may appear in favor of or in objection to said appli cation. It is further ordered that ap plicant give general notice of the substance of the application and the date and place of hearing by causing a copy of this order to be published in the Elkin Tri bune once each week for two consecutive weeks, the last pub lication being at least ten (10) days prior to the date set for hearing.
